im no pro or nething

i jus run bout 2miles evry other morning around my neighborhood jus to keep in shape and i enjoy it

2 Miles is quite easy. Try upping it by half a mile every time. Trust me, you will probably be able to run more than you think. I started doing a 3k Run to built up my stamina and slowly increase, then I find that I'm going to be running a 10k for rowing the next day. I actually did okay on it.

Off Topic:

My Nike+ still hasn't arrived yet :( Hoping it arrives sometime today :)

My relaxation method involves a bottle of lotion, beautiful women, and partial nudity. Yes I get massages.

How did you you make that team, and would you mind linking/ telling me how to get back to it? Now that I've joined it, I can't find it.

I was recently thinking about going for a run each day, since I have a ton of free time, then I realized I have no actual shoes.

Aside from the obvious cardio benefits, what else can I gain from running? I really don't need to lose any weight, but I need some way to keep in shape. Would running do the trick?

Running's great for your health. It can reduce the risk of heart disease, diabetes, several types of cancer, hypertension, and heart attacks.

Just make sure you do get a good pair of shoes, because running long-term in bad shoes can really mess up your legs.

I second that.

If you're going to do running, while it will cost a bit to get proper shoes, they will last a long time, and you will not hurt yourself. Cheap shoes aren't always the best alternative.

Just a random thing, my Science teacher has run in like 60 marathons. He is like 50 to, and he still runs them every few weeks.

So today I decided that my goal was to qualify for and run in the Boston Marathon before age 18. Then I looked up the rules and you have to be 18 to run. @$^@!%@#.

I think it is 16 for the Chicago marathon.

Yeah, it is. I'll probably have to wait til I'm out of highschool, since my coach would never let me run a marathon the week before conference. Something to look forward to

Running a marathon must take it out of you so much, you would get so tired.

Running a marathon must take it out of you so much, you would get so tired.

Only to a certain extent. You'll get tired, but eventually it'll just go over your head, and as long as you stay with your conditioning, you won't feel like you're dying, you'll either enjoy it, or wonder why you're still running. Once you get to a certain point, it's just the matter of getting past that mental block of being too tired to continue or it's not worth it or whatever negative thing your mind creates. After you get through this wall or block, it's just a matter of your conditioning to keep you going. Being tired is negligible.

I've been in 20km 'races', and it's all about staying focused, and thinking positively. Physical fatigue is a very low priority on the list when you're in the zone. Though most people do sleep pretty well the night after a marathon, lawl.

Aside from the obvious cardio benefits, what else can I gain from running? I really don't need to lose any weight, but I need some way to keep in shape. Would running do the trick?

Those cardio benefits are huge though. Cardio in itself is the best reason to run, anything else is practically not relevant in comparison to how much healthier you'll be. Running will keep you in shape, as long as you run three times a week for at least 20 to 30 minutes. Distance is irrelevant for staying in shape. Just stay committed, run three times a week, 20 to 30 minutes, and you'll see improvements within the first two weeks.

You don't need $200 shoes if you're not going to be competing in a race. A pair of $60 shoes from Sport Chek, or whatever shoe store will be enough if you're just running once a day, maximum of four times a week, and you don't have any foot/knee/hip/back conditions.

The rule of thumb is just to replace your shoes every six months, especially if you're running, regardless of shoe type.

If you're running twice a day, every day except one day a week, and you're training hard, you should already know to replace your shoes within two to three months of such training, and you should have those $200 shoes, as well as custom fitted orthotics.

Google this "Shoes For Average Running" for just personal health refinement. If you're wanting to run to get into condition for actual competitive engagements, seek a specialty running store in your regional area. They'll most likely be able to custom fit your orthotics and the type of shoes you'll need to do the best. They'll also tell you specifics about when to get new shoes, how you should run...etc.

Guys, I am going to be sewing a Velcro strip to my shoe, for the Nike+ Sensor. What would be better:

a) At the very bottom of the tongue under the laces, or:

B) On the kind of level bit of the shoe, directly after the tongue has finished?

Ran a 16:44 today and came in 6th in a rather huge invite. I second PR. :^_^:

Noble Aloof, would you add something about the Nike+ team Ouchy created for TIFers to the first post? The team is called Tip.It Runners and you can find it by searching for a team, which is in the community tab.

After a year of doing no exercise, I decided to get fit again. For the last 3 days I've been a running a 5 min km. First day was 40 seconds over and I was so disoriented I walked into a tree, my front door and hit myself in the face when I opened my freezer door. 2nd day I met the 5mins without too much difficulty, today I did 4:45 and felt good. Will start doing 2x1km@8 mins with 5 mins active recovery and slowly bring it down soon.

I still have the same issue I did back then - burning nose and throat. I can't breathe through my nose because it burns too much, even in warm whether. My throat also burns when running. Does anyone have some tips to help with it?

I've honestly never heard of anyone having that happen to them. It could either be really severe allergies or something you might actually want to talk to your doctor about.

Good job on starting running, though.

i'm pretty bad at running, i usually averaged 24-25 mins per meet (5km) until i PRed, 22:47 :D (my best before that was 24:06). This saturday we have a meet, conference, I'm going to try to get under 22 minutes. I think i can do it.

I run in the rain with my Nano all the time, and nothing's ever happened to it.

Pink and I had our conference. We saw each other, but never actually said hi.

I ran a decent race, considering the pretty muddy conditions. My time was ~16:45 and I came in 6th. The people at the awards ceremony completely screwed up the places and we had to trade ribbons afterwards.

I have 3 more meets, 4 if I go to sectionals...

So far my PR this season has dropped almost by half a minute, or by a minute at some courses...

I think it just ran out of battery :P

Yeah, I run in the rain with mine too, not sure why it stuffed up this time...
