What Do I Do?

Maze

Recommended Posts

I might go on a trip with my church. On this trip, we help out some people and basically do some community service. After two days of this service, we will go to an amusement park one day, and a water park the next.

So, you're probably thinking, "What is up, Maze? I don't see a problem."

I'm absolutely terrified of roller coasters. I can't ride one, and I may never will. It goes so fast and I have no control, makes it very scary for me. Also, I have a weak stomach when it comes to strong motion. I rode on a spinning ride, and I almost vomited.

Other kids are gonna be there, and they're probably gonna think I'm a big wimp and coward.

I want to go, but I'm terrified of roller coasters and spinning rides. I'll be embarrassed outta my mind!

So, I'd like some advice on what to tell the kids if they question me on why I don't want to ride.

Have you ever tried a large rollercoaster before? I was scared of them too, but I loved them since the first moment I tried them.

You might actually enjoy the ride, so why not try them, at least once?

Also, rollercoasters and spinning rides are very different, so that shouldn't be an excuse for you.

Forgive my pre-judgement and slight stereotyping ( <3: )...but in a group of Church go-ers, won't the chances of someone else feeling the same as you be probable? :-# Stand with them watching the others on the ride.

I'm sure if you said something along the lines of "If i ride this, i will be sick on your face", the kids won't deny you.

And sometimes you may need to take the leap a bit <3: It's often the fear itself that's actually worse than the thing. I quite liked the rides i was scared of once I plucked up the courage.

You should go, anywho. ::'

Stop burning my eyes with your orange text.

OT: I'd say, try a less scary ride, a simple one. Perhaps you'll like it, and from there on, you can move forward to bigger rides. Or else saying you'll throw up works too.

I get sick on spinning rides. Not like throw-up sick, but nauseated. Never on roller coasters. I've gone sky diving, and bungie jumping, and on some of the fastest/ biggest roller coasters in the country. I don't get sick doing those, but spinning rides affect pretty much everyone. Roller coasters are different. If you need to, just look at the ground of the place where your sitting, and concentrate on something else. If it's a floorless rollercoaster, close your eyes or something.

I'm similar, I don't hate them but most of the time I don't like them that much. Just tell everyone you puke if you go on one, no exceptions. No one will try to make you or think you're a wimp since they understand how puking sucks. Works even better if you talk about how much you wish you could with out puking.

Or just try it out.

You shouldn't let what other people might think of you determine your actions.

But this overall, can be something to face your fears.

You can't please everyone, so who would you rather it be? You or your friends?

I agree. If you're just afraid that something will go wrong and the roller coaster will fall off the tracks or something, just think of statistics. You're probably more likely to get in a car accident on the way to the park than you are to get in a roller coaster accident.

Hm, reminds me of a trip I went on with my school in 7th grade. (And woo for church service trips!)

Anyway, basically, I've never been a fan of roller-coasters. Back then, now, no. Just no. I went on a few of rides that didn't move as much, and was alright for a while. Then I started feeling sick. So I stopped, and just walked around. Then I managed to throw up at lunch. So I just went to the arcade.

Which was much funner since I was awesome at the games. (Though it probably ended up costing quite a bit)

I'm a bit confused by your post though, are the kids you're referring to the kids you'll be helping out, or friends that will help out with you? I'm going to assume the latter for now...If they truly are friends, they'd understand. They'd probably pester you for a while, but once they realize that you're perfectly serious, they'd most likely stop. Mine actually didn't question why I stopped going on rides (even before I threw up). I walked around and talked with a few of them, though I insisted they go on rides if they wanted to. Perhaps you'll be as fortunate.

That is, if you're definitely sure you don't want to go on any rides. It's nice to try, but better safe than sorry, right? :P

(Oh, and if we're talking about little kids, some of them would most likely be as scared as you are - no offense - so you should be fine)

Eat something and tell them your stomach needs to settle... then mysteriously you don't feel very well so need to take it easy and go on rides that wont unsettle your stomach.

The only people who tell you that you can't do something are those who have already given up on their own dreams so feel the need to discourage yours.

Just go on it.

Easier said than done. If I were you I'd just do what Goddess says - fake feeling unwell.

Confront your fears and ride that roller coaster!

Wanna know how I confronted my fear of heights? I went bungy-jumping. :)

"There is nothing to fear, but fear itself"

Ride one, just try it out.

Thought of using that <3:. They are really fun once you've done it. ::'

Post completely in orange again. I dare you.

Scrolled up and my eyes almost bled from the orange. Just because you're TET doesn't mean you are exempt from the laws of do-not-be-a-nuisance-to-others.

Isn't it against the rules to make a post in color completely? I remember someone told me that once.

But anyways, just go on the rides, or try one out, people puke on rides all the time, it's no big deal. They'd understand if you were afraid of riding one too. But you should at least try it out, because if you do it, you might not be scared anymore, and if you don't go on, you'll have missed out.

Rides suck anyways, waiting in line for twenty minutes to go on a three or four minute roller coaster is pretty lame.

Do it, you regret the things you don't do more than the things you do. I used to HATE upside down rollercoasters in particular but ended up on Space Mountain (peer pressure ftw) and now I don't mind them. Not fond of the upside down bits but it's more than worth it.

Just keep reassuring yourself - it'll be over in a minute, it's completely safe and most importantly if you're sick it's really really funny. Not at the time, just when you look back it's hilarious and a good story to tell people :D

Meh I'm not a big fan of roller coasters myself so I usually avoid them. Not out of fear, mind you, I just don't really enjoy them and I don't enjoy getting spun all around a lot. (and yes, I've rode plenty of them before.)

No real advice to give you though.

I didn't like the general idea of going on a rollercoaster, getting flipped upside down/terrifying speeds/vertical drops etc, until i actually went on my first one ages ago. Now i love them. Amazing adrenaline rush.

I'd say try some less scary rides first and if your feeling up for it, bite the bullet and go for it. Chances are it won't be nearly as scary as you're imagining it'll be. Hell, you might even enjoy it. :P
