Sy_Accursed
That's a 1 -2 hour buffer between being told no update and when an update would come out. Since when does 1-2 hours give us enough time to change our own plans accordingly? That's really unreasonable. For example, people try to finish F1-35 before this update, which at the least takes 5-6 hours. It's perfectly reasonable given that technical issues flare up in the last moments. They can't tell us at 9am no update today when the update won't be ready til around 3pm, because it can all be on target until even minutes before hand. Also if you wish to do f1 - 35 before it comes you should perhaps do so in advance then not go bk til the update does or not does not arrive. It isn't an isolated incident. Runescape is one of the most complex java applets to date; plus they continually try and push and bring in new tech such as z-buffer (which went wrong hence TT delay) while keeping backwards compatibility. Which all together means every single update is bound to throw up several technical issues and many may not come to light til the last moments. It's realistic to expect every update to be delayed by tech issues, anything else is dam good work on Jagex's side. My bad, I'm strung out on hydrocodone thanks to four missing wisdom teeth, so me brain not worky so well. Either way, I get embarrassed for Tip.It every week when i see this same discussion go on with the same exact people firing off the same exact crap. Jagex adds more to their game than most other MMOs, even if you were to take the other title's less frequent patches and put them side to side with how much Jagex updates in the same period of time. I deal with a lot of different communities while working on my website, and Runescape is definitely the worst when it comes to updates, and I partially blame this on Jagex setting players up to expect beginning-of-the-week weekly updates. It's like training a dog to expect a treat whenever a bell is rung, and quite frankly many of the more vocal Scapers aren't much more thoughtful than your average Chihuahua, and twice as yappy. The sad part is that the Warhammer Online community was a lot more accommodating for a billing error that charged players in excess of $500-$1,000 in $15 increments than the Runescape community is when an update doesn't come out at their convenience or is, god forbid, delayed. I figure Tip.It will never make gold status until we can get through a week without having a gigantic sob fest about an update being a few days late, and until TIF starts banning some of the people who are here simply to troll Jagex. I find the idea of banning someone here because of "troll[-ing] Jagex" pretty amusing Especially when constructive criticism has been offered Strawman arguments don't count as constructive criticism. All I've seen you arguing in this thread is that Jagex has some kind of obligation to put updates out on certain days because that is what players expect, and somehow going against promises they never made will make players lose trust. At the end of the day, as you like to keep saying, Jagex doesn't have to do squat but put the updates out in a timely manner, with as few bugs as possible. No one is going to quit because an update was a few days late, and for the single digit number who do, as one unnamed developer put it: "The company will not miss you or your __ dollars a month." jettrider
I don't think they should update on Thursdays - it doesn't give them enough time (a little over one workday on Thurs updates) to fix whatever got broken/unintentionally tweaked during the update. I'm sure they don't like overtime work any more than the average person does. If anything they should just save it til the next week, possibly putting it on a Jagex-employee secured testing server and letting employees play through it on their time off to give it a little last minute testing. 2496 Completionist

TT update was a promise they de facto made Sidenote: Sys update in 2min o_o Software developers will never make exact date update promises, because they will always be seeking out bugs, and often times last second bugs will cause delays. World of Warcraft has one of the largest staff of any MMO, and they still have patches that bring down servers for hours at a time because of last second issues. I had my server go down for 24 hours because of an issue that only affected a number of servers due to a patch, that wasn't seen in either the public test nor the internal QA. For another example, look at Final Fantasy XIV, which was delayed six months on the PS3 just a month or so before the game was set to go live, and that six months isn't even a guarantee it will launch in March. Mobilising Armies should have been the end-all beat all for Runescapers that delays happen, and occasionally big delays happen. I mean, Mobilising Armies was terrible, but that's a discussion for another thread.
Tact
Mobilising Armies should have been the end-all beat all for Runescapers that delays happen, and occasionally big delays happen. I mean, Mobilising Armies was terrible, but that's a discussion for another thread. The release of Mobilizing Armies was so disappointing to me; delayed so long that none of my ingame friends could even remember what it was supposed to be when I asked, and then finally dropped in with terrible gameplay after months of anticipation. Anyways, I don't see that Jagex has done anything wrong this time. They did not promise a specific day of the week that an update would be released. I seriously doubt that anyone has plumbed every depth of Runescape for all the gameplay possibilities. In fact, the more vocal of Jagex's critics also seem to have the narrowest definition of what makes a good update. Just because you want yet another addition to slayer, or new boss monsters, does not mean that Jagex has to cater to your demand. They've got plenty of other issues to consider, the least of which is your scruples about how updates need to be released on one or two particular days every single week. The mere fact that a J mod has to post "no update" threads on the RSOF every day shows how ludicrously far this obsession has gone.
xxshady
I dont know why Jagex continues to do weekly updates. There's a reason why Runescape is the only MMO to get new content every week. A release schedule like that is just impractical and pointless. I guess its because the majority of the community is young and their ADD requires constant new things to try out, but most of the community rages about every delay anyway. -------------------------------------------------------------------
Obtaurian
I dont know why Jagex continues to do weekly updates. There's a reason why Runescape is the only MMO to get new content every week. A release schedule like that is just impractical and pointless. I agree. I would really prefer them to tone it down to one or two updates a month at the very most. Even releasing a set of GIGANTIC, bug-free updates every three months would be great. On another note, I really don't understand why so many people complain about the people complaining about Jagex delaying updates. Did they promise this update on a particular day? No, but it doesn't matter. It's really OKAY to be upset over not getting the update. It's like knowing the month a new game is going to be released, then getting impatient and anxious when it isn't out earlier in the month. It's actually more annoying to me to read thirty people post about complainers than to read one person's complaint. Dungeoneering is literally the ONLY thing I want to do in Runescape right now, but the exp rates are too slow for me to want to deal with world 117, so I'm very much looking forward to this update. In fact, a LOT of the complainers actually really love Runescape and want to immerse themselves in this huge update to the biggest skill in the game. They're obviously going to be a little upset when it doesn't come out when they expect it (and make no mistake -- there IS expectation, regardless of Jagex' disclaimer). What's the big deal? The complainers, regardless of whether or not you agree with them, are offering much more constructive criticism and discussion than "STFU U COMPLAINERS COMPLAINING ABOUT THE JAMFLAX". My problem -- and this has always been my problem -- is that Jagex ALWAYS plans to release updates way earlier than they should. Instead of creating expectation for release this week, they should've given themselves till next week to fully test everything. I just don't understand why an update can't be fully tested and debugged far in advance of the planned release time. /my 3 cents. To put it bluntly, [bleep] off. Being upset about an update delay isn't a problem if you don't blow it out of proportion. People wouldn't be complaining about complaining if the complaints were simply, "this sucks -.- was really looking forward to the update," rather than "omfg jagflex qa stupid as [cabbage] dont know to do there jobs wtf did they even bring bts back for. they promised updates but then delay it there all so stupid." Actually, here's an analogy! Tip.it lately has been like the rants section of the RSOF. You'll find decent, logical rants for sure, but it's still annoying to be in there because of how few good rants there are. Though I suppose the counter-complainers aren't really helping either. I dunno, I find both sides pretty annoying. There's a good reason I don't visit the runescape-themed sections of Tip.It very often nowadays. Yoko Kurama
I figure Tip.It will never make gold status until we can get through a week without having a gigantic sob fest about an update being a few days late, and until TIF starts banning some of the people who are here simply to troll Jagex. Ban people who express dissatisfaction towards the product? What a moronic idea. As if apologists couldn't already get any more excessive around here. Expression frustration is hardly trolling, often when said frustrations are justified. You feel embarrassed for Tip.it? I feel embarrassed for Tip.it too--but for different reasons. Ever since Andrew threatened legal action against Tip.it and the subsequent take down of a particular article, this place lost its collective [cabbage] and ever since nothing that Jagex done can be ever examined critically otherwise one must fear the wrath of the apologists. And now we are at a stage where people are advocating others be banned for their opinions. How wonderful? Mind you there are still a lot intelligent and articulate people here but they are often overshadowed by apologists like you. I know you put a spin on your words to insinuate that only the trolls should be banned but inside their there is the implicit assumption that they anytime people have any complaints in regards to delays, we must be trolling, or as you put it engaging in 'sob fests'. It is as if to you, there is never a time when people are with legitimate qualms, it is as if people are just always sobbing. The whole Platinum status is another thing to worry about, people anticipated that once they unleashed something of this sort, there would be conflicts of interests where people like you would be more interested in getting some silly little control mechanism, er I mean status instead of actual discussion. strilmus
Plus some of the staff would have to ban themselves, and that would be really awkward! That is if we're going on the basis of discontent. There's not much you can do to troll Jagex outside of their own message board because it's not like they visit here often. Trolling requires the subject to actually respond in some way. Mind you there are still a lot intelligent and articulate people here but they are often overshadowed by apologists like you. You're adorable. But your strawmen arguments aside, there are plenty of people here who know exactly the kind of folk I'm talking about when I refer to trolls, and your teen angst on "omfg Omali iz a NAZI Jagsplax apalgist!" you've clearly never read the articles on my website regarding Jagex and some of their policies. I've regularly knocked Jagex for their embarrassing advertisement in India (showing the girl with the enormous breasts from the Poison Arrow update), how Jagex is too soft on their rule breakers, and implying that the new castle wars highest tier armor was made by a sadist who wishes to regress MMOs back into the old stereotype of no-life nerds. I've also used Andrew Gower's threat against Tip.It as an example of the company's true side, and have posted often on TIF about how Jagex is pretty much the only MMO developer to punish their players for creating fansites, and how it wasn't too long ago that they were dishing out permanent bans for mentioning "google." I know you put a spin on your words to insinuate that only the trolls should be banned but inside their there is the implicit assumption that they anytime people have any complaints in regards to delays, we must be trolling, or as you put it engaging in 'sob fests'. It is as if to you, there is never a time when people are with legitimate qualms, it is as if people are just always sobbing. You obviously don't pay attention to my posts on these forums, I'm a lot more unbiased than you think. And yes, whining about a couple days of delay is engaging in a sob fest.
