Finland has released a plan to start military training in several high schools and colleges in and around the Helsinki area. Copies of the art of war are in print for distribution for students in said schools. Classes for schools beginning this year have been extended by an extra hour to accomodate for the military training with out sacrificing another class. Students may apply for a pardon from training if they meet a strict code of disabilities (i.e. disabilities and disease). Strict codes are being set for academics. These codes are still under deliberation, but making sure that students maintain a 2.3 GPA or higher (by American standards) with courses with a difficulty of average or higher. Anyone failing to meet the requirements pay face taxation or retention. These codes won't be in effect for at least another year, and another year grace period to raise your gpa.

 

 

 

Finland would like to ally with Greater Argentina in the case of attack from the EC. My council and I are deliberating whether or not to join the EC, and we ask for another 48 hours to make our decisions. In the case that we do not join the EC, we would like to avoid all-out war, unless provoked. We are not afraid to use any nuclear weapons at our disposal if we are attacked.

I really just wanted to make the joke. Verde Soylante actually is a plant mutated from a hybrid lentil-soybean. Not exactly delicious, but easy to grow in urban skygardens like the ones we're requiring citizens to have in Buenos Aires. Most smaller apartment buildings in Buenos Aires produce 80% of their own food and about 60% of their own electricity, thanks to solar panels.

I will join NOPEC and also join you in a peacekeeping alliance. I also propose that all the Scandinavian countries put money forth to build underwater water wheels in the gulfs and other areas with fast running water to promote alternate energy sources.

 

 

 

Sweden also is combinding all remaining car companies and putting R&D money to work on perfecting hydrogen fuel cells and them implying a law that within 5 years gasoline based cars cannot be run.

I still would like to propose that smaller countries help by larger orders be used as safehouses so innocent people don't get injured by the war.

 

We aren't a violent group. As of now the EC is for trade convenience within Europe and protection. We can use the smaller landlocked countries for civilians to take refuge if war does break out.

Now 30% of the rainforests have been cleared away, and a road system has been made to connect the northern and southern portions of the MAD island. A 1000 square mile nature preserve and safari is being worked on to the east of the island. However I am going to have to decline putting forth money for the water based energy, seeing as how Norway has already perfected that before I came into power. As of 2009 99% of the electricity Norway uses is from hydroelectric sources.

Finland does have nuclear power plants, which we are trying to advance to make safer and greener. We will exchange all information (we have a large amount of new information already that could turn out a lot of energy with little pollution) with sweden and norway in return for full protection from attackers, and help in making nuclear weapons (if that's allowed).

Alright, Norway has a military alliance with Sweden and Finland now. This is purely defensive, if any of the members are aggressive then Norway will break the alliance with them. You two may want to work on an alliance between yourselves also, but through the transitive property you basically already have one :D .

A quick update as it sunk in what effect NOPEC will have on Japan; currently 50% of Japan's power comes from Petroleum (crude oil). If the market price is to slowly go up, then Japan's economy could take a hit unless something is changed in the power.

 

 

 

Thus, in some of the newly cleared mountainous land, wind farms will be built which could provide up to 5% of Japan's power. This still leaves a large portion of our power reliant on oil. I estimate that around 10% of energy is now from the enhanced solar panels we developed with China and Israel.

 

 

 

Additionally, with any "spare" uranium from the deal with Australia, we can increase the size and volume of our nuclear power plants.

Nope, Nopec will cause oil to go up in price steadily. If oil stays cheap like it is now people will continue to use it until it runs out, with no regards to the environment. It is not beneficial if your country consumes more oil than it produces to join Nopec.

 

 

 

Current demand of oil in the world is at 85 million barrels a day. Current production of oil in the world is at 82 million barrels a day. So some will have to pay the higher prices of Nopec oil (around 21% of all the oil at this point) because there are no alternatives. Steadily increasing prices will cause other forms of energy (which will be more environmentally friendly out of necessity) to be used, while making Nopec countries extra money for a few years before they come around. We will still make money on oil for a long, long time because of all the non energy uses of oil (plastic), just not as much as we could have because of getting people less dependent on it.

Though I'm still importing large amounts of oil (at rather high prices, I must say), I've decided to begin installing hydro-electric plants along the major rivers, and wind farms on the plains. (With all these typhoons, I'm sure these will get a lot of use) However, I'm not generating nearly enough energy to power everyone, so I'm still relying quite a bit on coal and oil. I've restarted the mining of domestic coal (especially with the newly discovered mines), so I should be fine there, but oil...

 

 

 

Public transportation systems are being improved and expanded. A HSR train now runs from Taipei to Kenting down the west coast, and also from Taipei to Taitung in the east. Subways in Taipei and Kaohsiung are being expanded even further, and many, many public buses now run through all other major cities. Citizens are strongly urged to use these systems, bike, or walk, but if not, it is recommended that they use motorscooters, which are already rather popular.
