Lenticular_J
With Uruguay and the portion of Paraguay we control, Greater Argentina produces around 850,000 barrels of oil a day. Heey, I just realized - that just about covers how much we use! I guess we don't need any oil, Venezuela. You can take the seeds as a notion of goodwill. That meeting will be occurring in approximately two weeks, my fellows. (I figured out that every hour in a real day would be about half a month in our little game, since a day is a year.) Research is going into making verde soylante taste less almost exactly unlike moldy celery. The group in the lead has found an easy method to grind the plant into a mealy substance, which can be baked into wafers that taste a bit like a Ritz cracked with a water chestnut on top. Delicious? Not quite. Also, Carnaval celebrations are spilling into Buenos Aires! Hurray! Hedgehog, we can send you seeds. In Finland it will be more difficult to grow verde soylante without a greenhouse, but it is a very hardy plant. A simple greenhouse kept at 80 degrees year-round with daily watering is about all you need. A single plant, at maturity, could make several hundred wafers. catch it now so you can like it before it went so mainstream
Hedgehog
Wanted: Foodstuffs (besides fish and grain) TROPICAL FRUIT. Though I'm still importing large amounts of oil (at rather high prices, I must say), I've decided to begin installing hydro-electric plants along the major rivers, and wind farms on the plains. (With all these typhoons, I'm sure these will get a lot of use) However, I'm not generating nearly enough energy to power everyone, so I'm still relying quite a bit on coal and oil. I've restarted the mining of domestic coal (especially with the newly discovered mines), so I should be fine there, but oil... Public transportation systems are being improved and expanded. A HSR train now runs from Taipei to Kenting down the west coast, and also from Taipei to Taitung in the east. Subways in Taipei and Kaohsiung are being expanded even further, and many, many public buses now run through all other major cities. Citizens are strongly urged to use these systems, bike, or walk, but if not, it is recommended that they use motorscooters, which are already rather popular. Can I get a response as to whether or not I can conquer/colonize/vassalize nearby islands? A fleet of ships has left my port in Tainan, headed southeast for the Philippines (the island of Luzon). I am not at liberty to reveal their full orders, though I will say that they are to communicate with the Filipino president first. I would love to start a trade agreement with you, but my only concern is the tropical fruit. Taiwan and Finland are quite far away and have a huge climate difference. Assuming the fruit gets all the way to my country, how well will it keep in a subarctic country? I have no doubt my people will enjoy such exotic food, but it will likely be ruined at some point. We could get around this by backing up the trade with cash. As in if the fruit is ruined or anything you would back it up with a similar value in money. I would do the same if something happened to the oil on the way to Taiwan. The food would be used mostly in the southern portion of the country, and would be farmed in summer and put away for winter. If you could develop a hardier version, one that could still grow at temperatures down to about 35 degrees Fahrenheit we would greatly appreciate it. We would, of course, help fund the effort. anonymous1234
Construction of the nature preserve was completed much sooner than expected due to a large amount of volunteers that support the preservation of the environment, the opening of this preserve has greatly increased tourist income, and with the new profits, the deforestation project for the northern part of Madagascar will be completed much sooner. This means we will be able to export much more vanilla and we can start growing coffee. Scientists have also finished engineering a new breed of rice extremely resistant to drought requiring very little water to grow.

fastortoise
Welcome comrades. I hope you are all rejoicing over your new powers, and are having fun governing the countries that make up this world. After signing the NWO peace treaty, I assembled you guys because I needed help governing the world. I granted you each the country of your choice - some demanded more, and I was fairly lenient with this. However, I feel like the New World is under a power struggle between the same people I assembled to lead a peaceful world. My council apparently prefers spending their country's profit on a military force, even though all leader are friends. It's also strange that the vast majority of Uranium is being spent on nuclear submarines instead of on medical drugs, which are at a very short supply nowadays. And, although vaccines for AIDs and Malaria are available to be bought and donated to third world countries, nobody seems altruistic enough to do so. I am very disappointed with this new world we have created. You rulers rather form useless alliances between each other instead of properly governing their nations. Hardly anyone is supplying me with any valid feedback from their new countries (do you expect me to believe your country is running solely on solar power after only 2 years of work?) For your lack of truthfulness, you shall feel the power of my scientists' new experiment. I will decide whether or not to carry out these (very evil) plans after this meeting, if you new rulers prove to be fit in leading this new world. Now that I got that out of the way, we have things to discuss. I am still unsure about which laws I should impose, and you will help me decide. First, should there be war... at all? I am wondering if I should create a new law stating that all peaceful countries (with no military force whatsoever) cannot be taken over. Therefore rulers of these peaceful countries will have the infinite protection of my DeathRay satellites incase anybody tries breaking these laws, but they cannot expand their nation since they have no military. Second, how fast should taking over countries take? If I take RPG for example, who took over 2 random countries in a row in under a year. This does not seem possible whatsoever, because wars usually take atleast over 5 years before some sort of conclusion is drawn. Third, I am wondering when to lift the "1 country per person until everyone has had their chance to claim one" law. There are still many countries left, but I am leaning towards the possibility of giving all left-over countries to the surrounding allies (so, if any European countries are left when I lift the law, they will go to NOPEC). sounds good? Fourth, what happens to countries which the ruler becomes inactive? I'm still not sure. After I set these laws in stone, it will be up to the rulers to enforce them on other rulers. The "NO NUKES" law is working well because it would be unfair for any country to have some, and so rulers have made sure to enforce this law on anybody who did not read it. I am hoping all laws will work this way. Discuss.

frakir_staer
Venezuela would be willing to disband our military under the protection of the DeathRay satellites. We have already scaled back to focus on infrastructure. This offer would allow us to write the military off the budget completely, which we favor, at least until we can improve internal affairs more. I assumed this was aimed at me because of the solar power cars. That's it, cars. when we started, which I'll be assuming was 2009, we already had solar powered cars. I'm just mass producing these cars now in 2011 which doesn't seem too unbelieveable.
anonymous1234
1. Of course there should be war. 2. War should take at least 3 days, if we are keeping the day:year ratio. 3. I believe we should put a "Countries are still up for grabs" sign on the topic name to let people know this world hasn't already been conquered. Saying that, we should wait another week until others can start conquesting. 4. If a ruler is inactive for more than 2 weeks without any advance notice, the country should be rest and put up for grabs. If the ruler comes back before the country is retaken, then they will resume their duties. Edit: Riku I was debating the efficiency of those cars. Able to run all night on a full charge doesn't sound right, when current electric cars only have enough battery power for ~200 miles.

Lenticular_J
If Venezuela could help us with our own hydroelectricity projects, Greater Argentina would be very grateful. We have one major river that many others flow into (the Parana, I really need to equip my keyboard with Spanish accents...), but we are not tapping into its power. Greater Argentina may be ruled by someone else soon. I don't have time to run it. It's exhausting. Give me a tiny island, a lot of beer, and some pretty women ... So, Argentina is now completely up for grabs. It's certainly quite a bit improved from 2009, and one of the world's top 20 economic forces. Whoever can post a plan with good ideas, I will choose. But I must demand that Argentina will not become part of an empire - it shall remain an autonomous state under protection of the DEATH RAAAAYS and its own power. Any takers? catch it now so you can like it before it went so mainstream
Caromon
I think war would add an interestign aspect but how would it really work? I don't like the idea of conquest because many people could just write a few lines of text and suddenly they are 3x as strong as before. I also think that there are some very unrealistic ideas going around. I like Lent's idea but could it really be developed in one year? It will be nice once we have a bunch of laws set in stone. a_bert
While I too was surprised at the level of military activity, I decided that in the event of war erupting it was best to be prepared. This explains the increase in Japan's military as well as the majority of our uranium going towards submarines, rather than medicine. (Also, it's weapons grade - not sure if that's the best use in medicine?) With the scale of Japan's economy, I could donate vaccines - but with the apparent expansive nature of some countries, I could indirectly be giving away free stuff to rivals who will eventually want to invade me. On the contrary, these alliances are not useless. They provide exclusive technology quicker than my scientists would be able to research alone. I am concerned that you, who claim to be so loving of peace, have decided to manufacture, as you claim to have, such a powerful weapon. War though. I think, without war, then the levels of interest in this could drop very quickly. I also think we need a real system to use when war comes, we can't just have "I attack your city and destroy all your troops with my tanks" - how is this fair? And yes, RPG does seem very "quick" however the countries he overtook, I think, had a rather small military and are fairly docile anyway. I like the idea of giving the countries to surrounding allies. When a ruler becomes inactive, his country falls into anarchy and is open to be invaded without "breaking the hegemon's peace" EDIT: I got the 500th post in the thread! Woo! frakir_staer
Venezuela is still researching really efficient hydropower, but once we have something, we would be willing to share with deserving nations. And the Europe has some sort of ambition of taking over Africa. Everything is not smiles and sunshine. It's also strange that the vast majority of Uranium is being spent on nuclear submarines instead of on medical drugs, which are at a very short supply nowadays. And, although vaccines for AIDs and Malaria are available to be bought and donated to third world countries, nobody seems altruistic enough to do so. I simply wanted one, for I can not rely on Diesel-electric submarines. I admit I could have reached out to Germany or Sweden for Air-independent propulsion submarines. Isn't nuclear cleaner after all? I tried reaching out to you for those vaccines for AIDs, but I should have tried a PM. Well what other methods do we currently have? We needed these alliances. The US is no longer my ally since this is a new world, so I can't get oil as easily. But I'm working on it. Venezuela is now my trading partner for oil. We shall see, if I'm fit for these new plans if you do launch them. Interesting. No war AT ALL will be cool. But some might want to expand their nations for motivates. Second, how fast should taking over countries take? If I take RPG for example, who took over 2 random countries in a row in under a year. This does not seem possible whatsoever, because wars usually take atleast over 5 years before some sort of conclusion is drawn. I say since you created this, you can decide. I waited months, but since they were taking over by a terrorist group. It was easy. Cool. So we'll have to wait 5 days to get a new country? DIBS ON IRAN! Fourth, what happens to countries which the ruler becomes inactive? I'm still not sure. Continue waiting or go with Number 3? a_bert
I don't think we should be allowed to expand too far from our motherland. I.e America shouldn't be able to attack Eastern Europe. fastortoise
Careful people... nothing I have posted in this meeting has been directed toward any specific ruler (well, except for RPG). The things I have mentioned are to be found in many rulers, not just a few. I think the best idea for the fate of countries which the ruler becomes inactive is that the country simply disappears. It would avoid any confusion and technicalities that I do not want to get into. If the poster comes back, his country reappears, but with no considerable advantages as it had when the poster left. Roccodog25: my finger is hovering over the big red button... watch yourself! In other words, I have and always will have supreme power over the world. I have given you full independence as long as you play nicely with everyone else, with the laws we all collectively agreed to. My DeathRays are placed in case somebody thinks they are above these laws.
