August 6, 200718 yr Watched Good Will Hunting and Bourne Ultimatum. Both owned. I wonder how Ben Affleck and Matt Damon wrote such a good screenplay?
August 6, 200718 yr Watched Good Will Hunting and Bourne Ultimatum. Both owned. I wonder how Ben Affleck and Matt Damon wrote such a good screenplay? There's a Family Guy sketch I think which shows Mat Damon writing it all and Ben Affleck asking to be put on the script despite him being depicted as a layabout dosser. August 8, 200718 yr The Simpsons Movie - It was pretty good fun. I laughed a few times. Really wish I hadn't seen the trailers before hand. I was also sat next to a smart alec little kid who wouldn't shut up and my sister who was humming the spider pig theme. Another 48 hours - I've been staying at a friends house and I had to share a room with his little brother. Who had no concept of making a guest welcome. He stayed up to 2 in the morning playing WOW and watching movies while I tried to get to sleep. I decided I might as well watch the movies. This one was pretty bad. Some movie about a guy who gets beaten up in a parking lot and then trains to fight the guy back, gets popular because of it and falls in love - Dunno what this one was called but I enjoyed it. I didn't enjoy watching the ring in quiz show afterwards. Thanks Venomai for this super sig and Kwimbob for the awesome avatar!
August 8, 200718 yr Author I haven't posted much because I didn't feel like translating everything from Dutch to English. Saw Infamous yesterday, and for a change I decided to post this in Dutch. Let's see what you make of it. :P I'll only say that it's a good movie and that it's recommended. Infamous - De tweede film over Capote. Signature by Maurice SendakWhen the stars make you drool just like a pasta fazool, that's amore!
August 9, 200718 yr Interesting Dutch review Daan :D . I read it completely (as I do every post in this thread), but I didn't understand a bit of it. My compulsion wouldn't allow me to skip it however  . The Bourne Identity and The Bourne Supremacy - Getting ready to see Ultimatum this weekend, figured I could re-watch these. Really enjoyable movies, and everything is done pretty well in them. The acting is probably the weakest link, but it's more than adequate for action movies. Caffeine - Rated pretty low on IMDb, but it's not any worse than most comedies. Funny, but I don't think I will ever watch it again. Man cheng jin dai huang jin jia - The Curse of the Golden Flower is a good movie, but some of it just well, wasn't. Like other modern movies like it there is a good deal of special effects to make fights look cooler. Some of the fights in this movie were really cool, and others were really lame. I did like the story a good deal. Proof - Gwyneth Paltrow, Anthony Hopkins, and Jake Gyllenhaal are reason enough for me to watch this. On top of that, it is a movie about a Mathematician. So yeah, I really liked this movie. Paltrow's acting I usually find to be a little sub-par, but she did very well in this one. Closer - Natalie Portman is a stripper. Yep, the movie was good enough just for that. Downside was it wasn't quite as hot as I thought it would be. Still, she was a stripper. Yeah, I guess I could talk about the rest of the movie, but why bother after hearing that? Far from Heaven - All the actors/actresses were trying way, way to hard to pull of the 50s feel. In the end, it made it seem that much more fake. If it wasn't for that it would have been an OK movie, but I would still have been pretty bored. Not my type.
August 9, 200718 yr Seven Samurai(1954) http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0047478/ I really liked this film. I admit before watching this I was prepared to be disapointed considering that it's billed as a 3-hour samurai epic and that it's rated so highly by both fans and critics but I was pleasantly surprised. I liked how the film makes you feel sorry for then slightly dislike the villagers, I liked how you slowly got to know the samurai well as the film went on. It also met my criteria for long films - the 3-hours didn't feel like 3-hours, and I was left wanting to see more. Trainspotting(1996) http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0117951/ Trainspotting was entertaining as always. I like the fact that it un-flinchingly shows the downsides to taking heroin as well as trying to explain why people take it in the first place. The characters are interesting and relatively realistic (Begbie is slightly exagerated but not by much). I enjoy being able to see places that I pass or go to regularly in the film, it's interesting to see somewhere that is so fimiliar in such a major film. On top of that I like it because it's one of the few British films to be set in Scotland that doesn't follow the Ken Loach style of 'kitchen sink drama' and shows that we can make ambitious, exciting and quirky films. The Killing Fields(1984) http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0087553/ It's been a while since I had seen The Killing Fields but it never disapoints. I'd consider this a hard film to watch because it's not "entertaining", instead it's a very serious war film about a journalist covering the Cambodian War and his translator (Pran Dith) who are then trapped in Cambodia during Pol Pot's ethnic cleansing of his own country. It's based on a true story and it's a great film and a decent way to learn a little about the genocide in Cambodia. He who learns must suffer, and, even in our sleep, pain that cannot forget falls drop by drop upon the heart, and in our own despair, against our will, comes wisdom to us by the awful grace of God. - Aeschylus (525 BC - 456 BC)
August 9, 200718 yr Hung Faan Aau (aka Rumble in the Bronx)- Clearly not named for where it was filmed, but a good all around movie. Jing Cha Gu Shi 4 (aka Jackie Chan's First Strike/Police Story 4: First Strike)- A very basic plot, but again, an all around good movie. Rush Hour- Need I say more? One of my personal favorites. Rush Hour 2- Again, one of my personal favorites.
August 10, 200718 yr The Killing Fields(1984) I always saw this movie while looking for The Killing (Stanley Kubrick), never really looked at it though. Might have to check it out... Sunshine - I think it was Harrington who said this was the best movie of 2007 so far. I agree completely. Well, it was just awesome, and I'll leave it at that.
August 10, 200718 yr Author Interesting Dutch review Daan :D . I read it completely (as I do every post in this thread), but I didn't understand a bit of it. My compulsion wouldn't allow me to skip it however  . Haha, really? :P Well, especially for you then: The second movie about Capote. And this one aims for the same period of his life as the previously released Capote from 2005. They've also been made in the same period (both companies didn't know this), but this one got released later (because two movies of the same subject at the same time would be a bit too much, and sony is a major company so theyt went first). The big difference between the two movies is that Capote was based on a biografy, and Infamous is based on a book full of interviews with friend and foe of Truman Capote. So this is another book adaptation, and the funny thing is that this movie, like Capote's "In Cold Blood" doesn't value the truth too much. Things are exaggerated and they even added interviews with Harper Lee, while those were never in the book. All to give a better view of the man. The movie follows the same path as Capote, but the movie is less bleak, and while it unfolds they other movie got a bit 'whiny', this one stays genuinely interesting. Maybe that's because they cut the movie at some moments to show short interviews from the book (all the people interview are actors/actresses no archive material or somethign). Then you could also go to compare Hoffman's preformance to the Jones one, but I think both did equally good. The supporting cast, which mainly consits of stars, delivers an excellent job as well, and I think this was the first time that I didn't want to strangle Sandra Bullock. recommended. :P Last night I couldn't sleep very well. That was because I was sleeping at 8 already, so I woke up at 00:00, and I couldn't sleep anymore. While I was super tired. So I decided to put on a DVD, and I heard that Toni was incredibly boring, so I put that on in hope that I fell asleep while watching it. But how wrong was that! Instead of boring, time flew by and this was an incredibly interesting movie. You can see it as one of the bigger influences for the neo realism that would be perfected in the 40s by our Italian friends. And allthough the print wasn't the best I've ever seen the shots are extremely stylish. You can also really see Renoirs signature on how he portrays his characters, so much love, only Renoir could do that. And the ending of the movie is brilliant, you could almost play it in a loop. Time flew quick, and after the movie I slept like a baby. Who could ask for more. Signature by Maurice SendakWhen the stars make you drool just like a pasta fazool, that's amore!
August 10, 200718 yr The Simpsons Movie. Hehe, it was ok : Dooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooome! Ultra Unholy,Hearted Machine...
August 10, 200718 yr The Killing Fields(1984) I always saw this movie while looking for The Killing (Stanley Kubrick), never really looked at it though. Might have to check it out... I haven't seen The Killing yet is it any good? I know Kubrick's film are usually pretty impressive but I never got around to seeing The Killing. August 11, 200718 yr Rush Hour 3. Watched in the cinema last night. It was pretty good. Even funnier than the first two, but the plot... man, pretty awful. About as shallow as a movie gets, but to be honest, I simply didn't care. I laughed out loud at this more often than I did at the Simpsons. Jackie Chan is a legend, but Chris Rock was the star. 7/10
August 11, 200718 yr The Good Shepherd I'd say as acting roles go, Matt Damon had a fairly easy one to play here, with an almost completely emotionless, expressionless and quiet guy. Great film about the birth of the CIA with a cunning intertwining plot. Dragged a bit in places, but otherwise very powerful. "Da mihi castitatem et continentam, sed noli modo"
August 11, 200718 yr Jaws, Deep Blue Sea and Deep Rising. I'm in a underwater monster movie mood. lol Mercifull <3 Suzi "We don't want players to be able to buy their way to success in RuneScape. August 11, 200718 yr @Daan: Now that is much more understandable :D . I thought Hoffman was great, if Jones is just as good then that would be great. I haven't seen The Killing yet is it any good? I know Kubrick's film are usually pretty impressive but I never got around to seeing The Killing. Yeah, it was awesome. I enjoy all of Kubrick's movies though, so my opinion is a little biased. Dark City - Completely awesome, just as good the second time through. Little Miss Sunshine - I liked it a little bit more the second time through, but I still think it is a bit overrated. Once again the beauty pageant scared the hell out of me, it was just weird. Bourne Ultimatum - Just got back from this a few minutes ago. Completely awesome, just like the first two. Although I don't know if it deserves to be #55 on IMDb, it was a great action movie. I do have to add one last thing though: shaky camera is shaaaaaaaaky.
August 11, 200718 yr The Battle of Algiers http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0058946/ Great film, not your average war film. A great veiw of the Algerian revolution. [hide]I still can't believe the Colonel had Ali blown up in his hiding hole at the end..[/hide] He who learns must suffer, and, even in our sleep, pain that cannot forget falls drop by drop upon the heart, and in our own despair, against our will, comes wisdom to us by the awful grace of God. - Aeschylus (525 BC - 456 BC)
August 11, 200718 yr Who's Harry Crumb? The Great Outdoors Uncle Buck Spaceballs 4 more of my favorites... All very good comedies in my opinion.
August 12, 200718 yr It's a Wonderful Life http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0038650/ It's a Wonderful Life, and a truly wonderful film. He who learns must suffer, and, even in our sleep, pain that cannot forget falls drop by drop upon the heart, and in our own despair, against our will, comes wisdom to us by the awful grace of God. - Aeschylus (525 BC - 456 BC)
August 13, 200718 yr The original Transformers Movie. You got the touch! lol Mercifull <3 Suzi "We don't want players to be able to buy their way to success in RuneScape.
