  • I watched Ghostbusters last night. Funny movie for those who haven't seen it.

It's getting it's American release in march. :P

And, some more watching for you indy.

Get the criterion of Le SamouraÃÆÃâÃâï!

Oh that will be good, in March I should be able to afford going to the theater again :P . I'll have to check out Le SamouraÃÆÃâÃâï also, it is always nice to see Criterion movies, since normally they are pretty easy to find. Once again I might have to wait for a month or two but I'll put it on my list.

Have you ever seen the french film Jean De Flourette, as that sounds exactly like what you just described. Maybe Pagnol got some insperation from that

Those sound really familiar, did you mention them recently? Yep, I just checked back two pages and there it was. I remembered the review, just not the title :D .

A Beautiful Mind - I always enjoy seeing this movie. It's about a mathematician, and I find that pretty interesting. Just like Pi. Also, it has Jennifer Connelly in it and she is hot.

"That's My Bush!" - After the first episode I was kind of "meh." I expected a lot more, I mean it's Trey Parker and Matt Stone. In the back of my mind I knew I shouldn't have doubted them, I was completely hooked by the end of the second episode. It is awesome, not as great as some of their other work but still hilarious. What's most obvious is making fun of Bush (kind of), what's not as obvious (still pretty obvious though) is that it is mocking sitcoms. I thought it was awesome.

After reading that I figured I should just go ahead and order it, so I did :D .

Gandhi - A dramatic biography, you learn a lot and are kept entertained. Overall a very interesting movie, and it was made pretty well. However I don't see myself watching it over and over again. I don't think it will be as interesting the second time through. It's kind of long too, but it goes pretty quickly.

Ferris Bueller's Day Off - This movie is for some reason much more entertaining and enjoyable than you would think. It's really a stupid plot, but it turns out to be hilarious. There are some stupid parts to it though. Still you should see it.

q8tsigindy500fan.jpg

Hannibal Rising- T'was a good continuation of the story with a decent plot and a couple weird scenes. I have a question though, why is Red Dragon apart of this story, I don't see any connections >

Indy, cool to see you got it man! Can't wait to hear what you think of it. :)

Inherrit the Wind - A really liberal movie losely based on the monkey trial in the '20's. For those who don't know what the monkey trial is: a trial of a teacher who was arrested for teaching the evolution theory to his students. What follows is a pretty interesting, but also funny courtroom-'drama'. It's great watch and perhaps even a must-see for the 'anti-fundamentalists' among us, and I guess some 'fundamentalists' can laugh about it as well. It's great to see March and Tracy have a go at eachother as old folks in the business. And a good Gene Kelly in his only NON-musical role in his career. Also two big thunbs up for Claude Akins as reverent Jeremiah.

L̮̩̉̉on (Directors cut) Good, of course. ;)

Was it pretty scary? I'll admit I was scared after watching the other ones.

I'll see it regardless, I've heard good things about it, and we got two positive reviews from this topic (Harrington and Devilsdragon). I just may not sleep all that well for a few days :D .

I should get it around this time next week, I always choose the free shipping option which takes a little longer, but is free. :P

28 Days Later... - Tuesday I posted a topic about zombie films because I had an urge to watch them. It might just be because I was satisfying some of that urge that I enjoyed this movie so much. I enjoyed it much, much more than the first time I watched it. I am really looking forward to the sequel 28 Weeks Later....

Battaglia di Algeri, La - The Battle of Algiers is exactly what it says it is, about the battles and struggles for independence from the French. Interesting movie, although some wont like seeing the Arabic people in the movie being portrayed as "freedom fighters", trying to free themselves by terrorism, blowing up and killing a lot of people. Try and go into it not thinking about your political views. Pretty enjoyable movie.

Gone with the Wind - Nothing like watching 3 hours and 45 minutes of a movie, only to have the DVD screw up leaving you the last 5 minutes that you can't see. I watched it yesterday, just finished the last 5 minutes a little while ago. That really reduced the impact of the end. Anyways, overall I really, really enjoyed the movie. I've seen some parts from when my mom watches it, and it never really looked like something I would be interested in. I was wrong, I was engrossed the whole time. I didn't notice the length at all, it went by pretty quickly. It looked very nice, and the soundtrack wasn't half bad. Most importantly Vivien Leigh is hot :P .

Less scary than Silence of the Lambs. IIRC Hannibal wasn't very scary as much as nervewrecking which is more along the lines of the new one, although I'm older now and the apathy(is that the right word?) that comes with age might have kicked in a little :)

A Personal Journey with Martin Scorsese Through American Movies - Ooh, great! What an honor it is to hang on to the lips of the worlds biggest cinephile for nearly four hours! Too bad they didn't have more time, I would've loved to hear so much more stories about his heroes and inspirations. A must see for everybody interested in the moving pictures!

Where did you get too see that, like a documentary on DVD or an extra with a film?

With so many trees in the city you could see the spring coming each day until a night of warm wind would bring it suddenly in one morning. Sometimes the heavy cold rains would beat it back so that it would seem that it would never come and that you were losing a season out of your life. But you knew that there would always be the spring as you knew the river would flow again after it was frozen. When the cold rains kept on and killed the spring, it was as though a young person had died for no reason. In those days though the spring always came finally but it was frightening that it had nearly failed.

I got it on DVD, it's an not extra. I think that's due it's 4 hours running time. :) I got the BFI release. It's a little bit more expensive than most DVD's, but it's worth every penny.

Anyway, Taxi Driver was on last night on Film 4, so i decided to watch it despite having the DVD. God those adverts are annoying. I love Taxi Driver it's Scorsese at a nice raw level like he was at in Mean Streets. His newer films continue to be great, but i just love how raw his earlier films are.

Amores perros - This was kind of an odd movie. It had multiple story lines that did all come together eventually, but it didn't seem like they all correlated together well enough. The connection was kind of weak I guess I am saying. Still it was pretty entertaining, and I thought everything besides the connection was done pretty well. I think the title Love's a Bi*** describes it pretty well.

Diaboliques, Les - The Devils is a good crime-thriller, I really enjoyed it. The story keeps you very interested, at least after the first 10 or so minutes pass by. I guessed the ending after just a little of the way through, but since I didn't know for sure until it actually ended it was still thrilling. If you like murder mysteries, definitely check this out.

I, Robot - Just watched this for the first time not to long ago, but I felt like watching a movie with my dad and I knew this would be interesting for him. Just as good the second way through.

Ladri di biciclette - The Bicycle Thief stars an all amateur cast, but their performances are great. They draw you right into the story. Admittedly the story lacks a lot you can do with it, it's about a bicycle being stolen. The bicycle however is the most important item to the main character, without it he loses his job and his family starves. You really get to feeling the desperation. Overall a very good movie, it ended pretty well. I wouldn't have liked it as much if it ended the other way.

Resident Evil - It got the job done. I wanted to watch a zombie movie, and it worked pretty well. Still want to watch more, but it did it's part.

Resident Evil: Apocalypse - Was not too happy with this one. Wasn't nearly as good as the first one, and had a lot of stupid parts in it. Milla was still pretty hot in it, which was a plus. Who the hell knows what the ending is all about, I guess there is supposed to be a third one sometime.

Brief Encounter - Haven't been disappointed by a David Lean film yet. This one is unnaturally short compared to his others, I think they were all in the 3 hour range, and this is half that. Anyways, I really enjoyed it. I like how it all basically narrated by the main character, brings you right into feeling what she feels.

The African Queen - Not a fan of Katharine Hepburn. I am a fan of Humphrey Bogart though, so it worked out OK. It was alright, but I wasn't kept interested all that much. Nothing bad about it, the only thing I really didn't like was seeing the stunt doubles all the time. Also the ending wasn't the best. Still, it's rated pretty highly on IMDb so you might want to check it out.

The Philadelphia Story, with Katherine Hepburn and Cary Grant. Contrary to the above poster, I like Katherine Hepburn very much. I loved the film. I'm a fan of witty screwball comedies, they are funny and daring. The Philadelphia Story is based on a play, and it shows in the style, decors, acting; which I found both annoying and charming at times. Anyway, it's going straight to my wish-list of DVD's. The romantic comedies of these days just cannot compare.

Third comes out THIS YEAR :D

Gotta love the bicycle theives, that little boy in it should have been a star. And Sergio Leone was DeSica's assistant director!

97/99 Defence : 99 Fletching : 99 Woodcutting

Contrary to the above poster, I like Katherine Hepburn very much.

Have you seen Bringing up Baby? That was the first movie I saw her in, and she is annoying as hell in it. That probably ruined my image of her forever. I guess I shouldn't have taken it as bad as I did, since that was the character she was playing.

Third comes out THIS YEAR

Yep, had to check it out right after I posted. I'll still see it, but my expectations are low. Maybe that's better, going into the movie with very low expectations. Then if it just turns out to be bad I will be happy :P .

It looks better, and I like the search being at the top. The only real added functionality that I notice that I may use is when you are looking at actors/actresses that have movies in multiple decades, there is a quick link for them. Actually the recommendations allows five now instead of just one, that is cool too. You can also use the old style by replacing "www." with "former." EX:

http://former.imdb.com/title/tt0040522/

instead of:

http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0040522/

Gotta love the bicycle theives, that little boy in it should have been a star. And Sergio Leone was DeSica's assistant director!

That little boy didn't annoy me like most other kids in movies (and in real life I guess), so yes, I agree he should have been a star. IMDb says he became a math teacher.

Also, I love Italians in films. When they start getting angry or raising their voice it's just great :P

Seppuku (Harakiri) - Hm, I've been thinking for half an hour now of something usefull to write about this movie, but I just can't find the words to describe how amazing this movie is, without falling into clicḫ̩̉̉s (hehe, damn, this is a one big clicḫ̩̉̉ :D). Just speechless. If you live in America: buy the Criterion. If you live in a non r1 region, and have a region free DVD player: buy the Criterion. If you live in a non r1 region other than japan or hong-kong: download the freaking movie. You do not want to miss this. Everything is perfect. 10/10

Roma - Seeing a Fellini in cinema is always a privelige. Too bad that this one isn't one of his best/better works. There was a lot of parts that I didn't really care about, and there were some brilliant parts as well. But all in all it's a pretty interesting look on Rome trough Fellini's eyes. 7/10
