I think updates have been more bugged this year then others because its the update year.

They are going through old codes and changing them to make them all more up to date.

For the Teleport bug for the POH update, they probably deleted one line or a few characters too many in the script which led to the Invalid Teleport.

I liked this update appart from the fact that I ended up using 5m on remodeling my house to fit the new room in.

I'd agree with this.

It's one thing writing brand new codes and just making the back compatible.

It's a whole different thing changing existing codes and not producing unwanted effects, and they diud mention somewhere this year they are trying to condense and tidy old codes.

Eg where they have 15 lines of code in diff content all doing the same function they repalce with 1 central "engine" code

I guess what bothers me most about the bugs is that the argument goes that when hundred of thousands of players play, then this will be more testing than any QA team can accomplish. Okay, I get that.

My issue is that *every* single person I talked to had these issues, so how could this have gotten by them? Seems like any person could've figured out this was screwed up.

Probably because account data such as houses are stored on a sever at jagex hq.

The WIP and RC servers used for testing probably have direct hookup to these servers, meanwhile the servers around the world have to access them via the gr8 interweb.

All in all meaning it is extremely possible that on QA servers houses loaded fine, but when ported thru interwebness something bugs, the sheer fact houses load faster shows they have done something to how they load.

When it's fixed, all that remains is a great update <3:

I love how my house loads fast now. Was pretty annoying at some times. And the menagerie is actually pretty fun. I'm stuffing it full with dragons. Currently working on growing my 3rd one. And the faster fighting familiars is something I will enjoy a lot

I do hope they fix the fact that pets wander off pretty far in your house.

Exactly, people also seem to forget that Construction has been one of the biggest sources of bugs when it comes to skills.

I've been playing with this update for a while and must say I love the attack button.

I was maging rex last night and though I would try sending my fire titan at him, low and behold the titan was hitting pretty damn well (very few 0's). Plus it was great to be able to send the titan off to kill specific snips (ones with

Not had chance to look at the other non-summoning updates, but I must say the summoning side is great

I, myself, own a very small ORPG, and update every week or so. I get at least 34 bug reports in the first hour of the update. I've never released a bug-free update. And I have a few testers in the staff that give me feedback and bug reports on every update before it's released. JagEx is actually doing relatively well.

And for those that say "Well, these bugs are blatantly obvious. JagEx apparently did no testing on this.".. Frequently, the worst bugs are impossible for a testing team to find. They are normally linked to glitches during the uploading of the update to the server, or the server load. Something that works bug-free for 4 people rarely works bug-free for 150,000 people.

'

Construction is a very, very complex skill code-wise from what I can tell. Certain systems in games just cough up a horde of game-breaking bugs even if you change a line or two.

Just another quick point on the testing of this release and QA bashing. QA can only test what code is given to them and can only test it on an environment that is provided to them. In my experience of project management in the company I work at it isn't uncommon for the code that is released to be different to that that was tested, especially if there are a lot of late development changes (which I imagine there is a lot of a Jagex due to weekly roll outs). Also, a lot of bugs are caused by environmental factors. It's remarkably difficult to keep a test environment in line with a production environment especially when the code is very fluid. Therefore you find when roll outs occur on to an environment that is configured slightly differently to that it was tested on, bugs can occur.

Just my two penneth :D

I only got on at the end of last night and didn't have too many bugs to contend with - I must be the lucky one :)

From my perspective then I found a series of great little improvements (1) at last having an in house mini-obelisk now conveniently located as near the portal and teleports as I could manage! (2) a relatively low cost way to free up more bank space which is always welcome (3) a way to easily feed pets (4) the summoning button toggle is a big improvement (5) the improved servant interface and I haven't even tried the summoning combat improvement that everyone is so excited about or the MA stuff.

Whilst I didn't have to struggle through the early bugs that others did, the negative reaction seems perhaps a tad overdone relative to the breadth of improvements in construction and summoning.

If the best ones allowed infinite pets, imagine that guy with 1000 cats? i'd want to see his house, all he needs is a trip to the makeover mage, to be female and have yellow skin and throw cats, and he'd/she'd be?

Yeah, this morning they fixed a good deal of bugs.

A lot of the known bugs have been fixed. If you find more, please post them in the Bug Reporting forum or submit a Bug Report.

Many thanks!

I got my Wintumber Tree back when I logged in and checked it. <3:

So I log onto RS and give this new and "improved" summoning a try.

First, time this year I call up a summon because it just plain sucks, but I'm open minded so here we go.

So, then I have no idea how to interact with the stupid thing since the tab never appeared.

So I rumage through the website for a few minutes to figure that now you have to right click the button up on the top right part of the screen to bring down a menu to get the tab back.

Okay, so we got this new button now that looks like a paw and brings up an attack option.

So, I'm thinking, "Cool you can send the thing in first have it initiate battle so at least it does something now".

Wrong!

You get some stupid message saying you have to already be in combat.

So lets see the old summoning was:

Get attacked

Click the summoing tab

Click call summon

Hope it does something before you kill the thing which you called it to help with

The new summoning is:

Get attacked

Right click summoning icon

Fumble through menu to get tab

Click paw on tab

Click again on the monster attacking you.

Of course, the summon is usually in a bad position since it straggles along and cant get there so you have to click call summon

Click paw on tab again

Then click on monster again

Finally, pray that it does something before you kill it which frankly aint going to happen with all the nonsense above

So lets see this is improvment... hmm... I call this making something that sucks just really suck [wagon].

They need to give it up and go make a warlock or hunter on WOW and learn how its done.

They need a threat system, they need to reduce the tanking stats of the summons because they are ridiculous and their offensive capabilities are a joke, they need them to follow you with an AI comparable to all the other npcs in the game, then they need to option for you to direct them to go attack something using the same pathfinding algorithms that your avatar has, finally they need a tab again without a right click menu on a button the size of a lower case a on 12 pt font.

Until they address these things, summoning is just plain garbage and anybody who disagrees with me is just a Jagex appologist without a valid opinion of their own...

You can set the summoning button with a left click and choose several options. Set it to attack and the next time you get into a fight, left click the button and your summon will go right after it. :P

I think it's highly ironic that the most well-received update wasn't supposed to be an update at all - it was completely unintentional.

The whole new Bandos deal seems to be very popular among various forums, and I'm not sure that JaGex will change it back...

Makes it harder so yeah i'm all for it if people complain its hard simply level some more before going, a level 500ish isn't supposed to be a walk in the park and I thought the idea of a tank wasnt brilliant, kind of made it difficult for one whilst everyone else just leeches lol.

the bolded part says one thing and the italicized part says something entirely different. I just looked at this thread from the general forum, saw trembake as the last post, and said to myself oh I wonder if he's ranting about summoning.

I used the steel titan on a fire giant task today, getting 34k slayer xp/hour with no cannon and no piety. I invite you to equal that, or get anywhere near that without summoning. the attack option helped considerably. you suck at using it obviously because you deliberately try to make summoning suck as much as possible to defend your own prejudice against it. I also invite you to stay at any god war dungeon beside bandos indefinitely without using summoning. you will find it impossible. if you spent 5 minutes thinking about how to use the summoning interface effectively, it might occur to you that for things with low hitpoints you should have your summon attack one creature while you attack a different one. you might try using a familiar on slayer monsters, which have low enough defense to make it very effective (and I've gained millions of ranged experience this way so don't bother saying it isn't) instead of players or god wars bosses or whatever the hell you tried using it on. you also might READ THE UPDATE that clearly states how you can re-order the summoning menu in any way you desire. using the left click to bring up follower details is most helpful for using a combat familiar with an offensive scroll. you could attempt that, but you would obviously botch it in an attempt to disprove me.

so how about you go and make that warlock

um, I think the difference is that you set the left click option to attack, while he didn't. I don't think he set his up. He didn't set it up because he didn't know how.

Not because he's stupid as you suggest, but because he didn't read it properly and was ignorant of how to do it.

I love when people ignore parts of the update just so they can suit their own needs for complaining, its quite funny  .

OT: I really love having a mini obelisk in my house. I have wanted it for a long time, and pet storage coming with it makes it even more epic  . Along with choosing what happens when you click the summon meter, I would say about time. It is nice, but it probably should have been that way from the start, even if it was more work for them. Oh well, its nice now \'

The bugs are annoying, but can be expected from games this big. I am just glad they fix them as fast as they do, it is quite commendable.
