October 17, 200916 yr So we shift from the traditional medals to whatever the hell these things are? Who in their right mind came up with this?Reading this, we get a better understanding for what these are supposed to be: -- The medals of the Vancouver 2010 Olympic Winter Games are circular in shape and based on a large master artwork of an orca whale by Corrine Hunt, a Canadian designer/artist of Komoyue and Tlingit heritage. Each of the medals has a unique hand-cropped section of the abstract art, making every medal one-of-a-kind. -- They are among the heaviest medals in Olympic, weighing between 500 grams to 576 g depending on the medal. -- Each feature a different crop of larger contemporary Aboriginal artworks and are undulating rather than flat both firsts in Games history. The dramatic form of the Vancouver 2010 medals is inspired by the ocean waves, drifting snow and mountainous landscape found in the Games region and throughout Canada. I don't care what they changed the medals for, I personally have no idea why they would do it. I prefer the round ones a hundred percent more then these. Any thoughts?
October 17, 200916 yr "A" for trying to bring originality to the medals. "F" for design of it. Horrible design. I am Teh_King[My dA][My Last.FM][My Twitter]
October 17, 200916 yr Well, technically they are still round, they are just kind of wobbly back and forth. The image you posted is from the side, and makes it hard to see that they are, in fact, still round. Here:
October 17, 200916 yr Tbh they're not that bad. They look a bit weird from the side but the front seems more sane. It's got me worrying now about what London is going to have for their medals. You've seen what we did for the logo. It makes me proud to say I don't live anywhere near London. I edit for the [Tip.It Times]. I rarely write in [My Blog]. I am an [Ex-Moderator].
October 17, 200916 yr I think its a good idea. Athletes who wins a bunch of medals over the years will be able to appreciate their awards much more if each country has a unique design. However, for the athletes who already won a bunch of medals and will win their last in Vancouver, it will completely ruin their collection :wall:

Sure it's good to see some change, but I don't think this is the right direction. It's too abstract and weird. It might look good somewhere else, but not something as big as the Olympics. I am sure this is going to spark controversy all over when word really spreads since this is a relatively new development.

I am sure this is going to spark controversy all over when word really spreads since this is a relatively new development. Every Olympics has had unique medals. Every (major, and a lot of times small) sporting event has unique medals. An olympic medal is an olympic medal; what it looks like does not make it any less prestigious. Trust me, the athletes don't care about something so trivial and vain, and neither should anyone else. Here's a picture of other olympic medals. Notice the ones circled in red. I don't like the new medals either, I'm just saying that it's not a big deal and there have been other weird looking medals in the past.
October 17, 200916 yr They look gorgeous to me and I like the idea behind them. La lune ne garde aucune rancune.
October 17, 200916 yr Yeah, I think they're cool-looking. I almost expect that one of the winners will unwrap one and inside will be the best chocolate known to the universe. That would be a prize. catch it now so you can like it before it went so mainstream

October 17, 200916 yr Another view. Do people really want a medal that looks all bended and odd looking? I am Teh_King[My dA][My Last.FM][My Twitter]
October 17, 200916 yr It looks like something went horribly wrong when they were making them.
October 17, 200916 yr I also think they look pretty cool. They're just more contemporary then what you typically imagine a medal to look like that's all. If all metals looked the same I'd probably get bored of them fairly fast. Refreshing the look makes them unique and fun to get imo.
October 17, 200916 yr I'm sure the athletes won't accept them because they aren't flat :wall: [sarcasm] I doubt the athletes care at all.This. If you just won the Olympics, you shouldn't care about the aesthetic appeal of your medal, you should be planning how to get rich off marketing adds. (And also you shouldn't blow it all away by getting caught with dope.) The only difference between Hitler and the man next door who comes home and beats his kids every day is circumstance. The intent is the same-- to harm others.[hide=Tifers say the darndest things]I told her there was a secret method to doing it - and there is - but my once nimble and agile fingers were unable to perform because I was under the influence.I would laugh, not hate. I'm a male. :(Since when was Ireland an island...? :wall:I actually have a hobby of licking public toilet seats.[/hide]
October 17, 200916 yr The medals are fine, they're creatively interesting, yet don't lose their functionality. We have bigger fish to fry, have you seen the London 2012 logo? Now that's awful. ~ W ~
October 17, 200916 yr I couldn't care less about what the medals look like. The medals themselves are unimportant. The fact you beat the best of the best to earn them is what matters.
October 17, 200916 yr Fail logo fails. It looks like the graffiti art that the pasty middle class 12 year olds try to make in school  . YOU! ATTEND TET EVENTS! CLICK HERE!
October 17, 200916 yr Fail logo fails. I hope that is a joke. I shall take my flock underneath my own wing, and kick them right the [bleep] out of the tree. If they were meant to fly, they won't break their necks on the concrete. So, what is 1.111... equal to?10/9. Please don't continue.
October 17, 200916 yr I personally think they look really cool. [bleep] the law, they can eat my dick that's word to Pimp
October 17, 200916 yr I don't really care what the medals look like. 8,180WONGTONG IS THE BEST AND IS MORE SUPERIOR THAN ME#1 Wongtong stalker.Im looking for some No Limit soldiers!
October 17, 200916 yr *fail logo* Fail logo fails. I hope that is a joke. It's not. On behalf of England and the United Kingdom, I'd like to apologise for the idiots in London that have made the worst logo ever, and even more for the idiots that thought it was good and decided to actually use it. I think some middle aged men with degrees in things no normal person even knows about decided that it would be 'hip' and 'groovy' to 'get wit the kidz' and make a logo out of poorly designed Graffiti. I edit for the [Tip.It Times]. I rarely write in [My Blog]. I am an [Ex-Moderator].
October 17, 200916 yr Author Fail logo fails. I hope that is a joke. It took me a moment to realize that those pink blobs were supposed to say 2012

I agree, it really makes me ashamed to think, people from my country made that horrid logo. And I cannot believe, I've seen that logo, maybe hundreds of times since it was made, and until ratchets post, I did not know it said '20 12'. I thought they were just random pink shapes. The logo is just that bad. Want to be my friend? Look under my name to the left<<< and click the 'Add as friend' button!Big thanks to Stevepole for the signature!^
October 17, 200916 yr Ratchet, do you just complain about everything? :wall: They look interesting to me, I don't really have much of an opinion on them however.
