Dev Diary - Elite Tasks - 19-Nov-2009

Personally I despise diaries. JaGeX is just so stupid it's astounding to me. How something like, "walk to building X" an achievement at all? Ffs man this game is run by morons I swear...

Cry some more, little baby.

Anyway, here are a few "Hard" Lumbridge rewards, assuming that the hard tasks are P2p, that I came up with. These would not all be included in the ring, obviously.

  • Lumbridge Ring acts as an enchanted Ring of Charos/a Ring of Wealth/Ring of Life ( ROL effect would be toggable).
  • Relaxes restrictions on items brought to Entrana. Armour and all other non-combat devices are allowed on the island using this ring; basically everything but items with the ability to be wielded in the hands are premitted.
  • Gives an additional run energy charge, PLUS an extra charge for every 20 agility levels the person has (I.E a person with 62 agility would be granted seven usages a day).
  • Gives an additional free 10 high-alchs.
  • Culimancer chest gives an increased stock.
  • Bob gives a 30% discount on repairs.
  • The farmer by the tree patch would give a free 2-4 bird's nest a day.
  • An additional 10% chance is added to the existing Runecrafting bonus.
  • Cabbage-port teleport toggable to Lumbridge teleport.

Some stat changes could either simply increase the current bonuses, or add a -2 weight effect, similiar to the Boots of Lightness.

100% Must-Be-a-Elite-Task

Kill TzTok-Jad

Or 'Equip a Fire Cape'

If I had to do it again I'd just be spending 2 hours thinking about all the XP I wasn't getting D:

Noo, this would finally give me some motivation to get a place holder fire cape.

As true as that is It wouldn't be as epically nerve wracking the second time round :( would ruin the original experience for me lol XD

would be me getting my backup backup placeholder fire cape lolz

I don't mind as destroying the caves is cool but also the part that isn't jad is just kind of tedious

- Obviously epic emote.

- Home teleport is instantaneous. (Charge time is still same length.)

- Elite equipment should be rune grade when the whole set is worn. Seriously. (Anybody with those levels should be able to afford hundreds of rune armor sets anyway.)

- Increased kingdom management rewards.

- Indeterminate number of free NPC contact spells.

- Ability to mess with the Grand Exchange from anywhere (or maybe just the bank), with the proviso that you can only move items between the GE and your bank. (Not sure, everybody will probably baaawwww about this.)

- Once the whole set is gained, get access to exclusive hangout area located beneath the party hall in party hall world.

- Seer's headband should make summoning pouch runs faster somehow.

- Wait period for picture taking dropped.

- Freebie style changes of every conceivable type imaginable, unlocked with corresponding regional elite grade equipment.

- Instant farm harvests. No more stupid picking one at a freaking time. GAAAH.

Naturally, for most of these things to be rewards, the tasks would have to be stupidly hard to get to.

Nice reward ideas. I like all of them.

Lets see what possible 'elite' tasks could be?

Karmaja:

Kill/Get to Jad?

Plant a Spirit Tree? (83 farming)

Make a certain amount of Natures at once (which requires 91 runecrafting to do... would have to be something such as 54 at once to make it impossible (or near impossible) for people less than 91 to do.

Seers:

Catch a shark with Barbarian Fishing (96 fishing)

Make a Magic long bow all in seers? (A bit easy though)

Relekka:

Kill one of the dagannoth kings (although they said they didn't want to do anything like that).

Spirit tree (would be copying Karamja though).

Kill an Aquanite (78 slayer)?

Falador:

Mine/Fish something in the Living Rock Caverns would be the obvious one

Plant a Magic Tree? (Could also be in varrock diary...)

Varrock:

Do the Sawmill training (80 woodcutting)

I'll imagine most of these will be filled with 'trivial' tasks such as smithing a random item in varrock that don't really 'belong' to that area.

I'd be very mad if planting a spirit tree was a task, I don't want to find another seed and wait a ridiculous amount of time for it to grow again <_<

I like your other ideas though

Killing TzTok-Jad Task Requirement

- 200K+ supply cost

- Prayer switching skills

- 1 to 2.30 hours

Would be disappointed if it does not turn out to be a Elite task.

I don't think killing him would be an Elite task, but reaching wave 63 might be.

While killing Jad would be an worthy diary installment, there are a number of players who have slower internet (dial up) and cannot pray switch due to lag, even if they have the mental ability to do so. I would hate for them to exclude those players, so reaching wave 63 should be a goal enough. You still have the 1-3 hours of time spent and 200k+ supply cost.

And those that do reach wave 63, and have the abilities, can go on and get the firecape anyways.

Too bad there is already a Fight Cave one for hard no point to make one for Jad because its more prayer switching skill, luck, and combat levels it just doesn't fit in with a task.

Through for elite Karmy the reward should be a decent gem rock spot.

I agree with Jamin04, make it 'equip a fire cape' and fine by me.

Don't let us go through that horror another time...

Reaching wave 63 is not considered Elite from my view.

Or you know, there are some people like me who has the best gear for the cave, watched every video possible, above average stats, can get to wave 63 everytime, and still fail completely on jad. I have tried over ten times, everytime to wave 63 and still fail even with excellent internet.

Jad really should be a requirement. :/

Combat levels? Diary tasks are based on skill levels, so yeah?

Luck? Fight cave is about skills than luck. Luck does not get you through waves, or get TzTok-Jad killed.

Prayer switching? That's showing skills from my view.

Hey, don't do it then....Did you whine about the elite diary?

I am expecting at least 1 of the diaries to contain mining and smiting runite, and killing a higher level slayer monster, maybe an abby or a dark beast.

Elite Tasks - by Mod Maz 19-Nov-2009

Back in 2006, Mod Mark and I sat down and started to develop what we then called ‘area tasks’. This idea was concepted and developed into the very first Achievement Diary: Karamja. This was a completely new idea within the game - not a quest, yet not a minigame or skill. It was quite an adventure finding and pushing the boundaries of what was possible at the time, and yet staying within our core ideas for what was to become Achievement Diaries: "To highlight existing content that perhaps players hadn’t used in a long time or simply didn’t know about, and to show players around an area by using existing content in the area."

ardougne_cloak_thumb.jpg

So, seven diaries later and what has changed? Well, we give far greater rewards for the newer diaries than we gave to Karamja; we’ve added a special beginner diary to Lumbridge to introduce new players to the concept; and, of course, we recently released the Ardougne diary with a hidden elite section.

We were a little wary about how this elite section would go down considering how few players could actually complete it. Overall, the feedback appears to have been positive, with many players using it as a goal, rather than seeing it as a disappointment that they’ll never reach.

What a stupid [bleep]ing company. They don't deserve to be rich. It takes these idiots 8 years to realize people WANT high level updates? I can just bet what happened as soon as they released this update.

MMG: "Omg guys ull never guess what...!!"

JaGeX: "someone liked one of our updates?"

MMG: "surprisingly yes!! They liked it cause its high level!"

JaGeX: "lol? you sure? i highly doubt that, statistics show that high level is level 70. We should make more rune armor variants, we dont have enuf!! "

Elite task for Fally:

Deposit more than 1m in the party chest.

Hard task for Lumbridge:

-Cook a full inventory of lobsters on the range inside the castle without burning one.

-Kill a rat in full rune using wind strike... oh wait...

99 dungeoneering achieved, thanks to everyone that celebrated with me!

With the Lumby one, Mind you since its F2P the requirements cant be overkill or P2P, Like chop 50 Yews, Kill a man or woman with Fire Blast, Cook 20 Lobsters in a row on the Cook's Range without burning one. that kinda thing.

Doesn't the current elite diary have something about smithing rune items already?

I can't wait for the elite tasks, but I can't help to wonder if the achievement diary set bonus will require elite. Right now I'm thinking there will be a set bonus for each level of achievement equipment (all easy task equipment, all medium equip, etc.)
