Haha i'm glad you agree. What fashion blogs/forums/magazines you frequent? I'm somewhat a fan of Superfuture, lookbook(lol.), and GQ. Eh no, trendiness is never really my thing, just like to do what looks good and follows a aesthetic code.

 

Everytime I hear APC's mentioned I cringe a bit. I believe they're quite overpriced considering the construction. I'm not a huge fan of the tapers on the jeans. However the washes are acceptable to a certain extent in my book. Nice entry level jeans though- I'd rather go for Nudies considering they're about the same price.

Lol I'm realizing people are in different stages of their lives/ages where wearing different things is acceptable in some groups and not in others and therefore impossible to come to a consensus. So we should just stop the trolling and just get back to suggestions and constructive criticism for questions people have relative to the look they want.

Lately I've either been wearing my work uniform (col bleue) or my lab coat (col blanc) so my fashion sense has dropped to critical levels. Sometimes I roam the streets aimlessly in tan pants and a sweater vest... if I'm lucky the fashion police doesn't pull me over and make me face another night in the fashion holding cell, where they force me to watch Gene Simmons in his flamboyant tank tops and short shorts.

Well then thats not what I'm talking about lol >.> I meant like for casual wear. Obviously it makes since to pay that much for something you're going to wear everyday.

 

And $300 is a lot for me, but then again I only make $550 or so per paycheck.

 

But also, while I do love blazers (I wear them maybe once every two-three weeks) I like more of a non preppy look I guess. Like laid back look, though obviously I love my argyle.

Valet, Sartiorially Inclined, Start with Typewriters, I used to read Hypebeast but it just clogged up my rss reader, The Sartorialist, eyefivestyle, FashionBeans (for the high street finds), Street Etiquette, and One man's style/a conversation on cool if you can consider them fashion blogs. Everytime I look on SuFu or Styleforum, I feel like everyone's talking about 430$ Alden brogues and my empty pockets feel even emptier. And what I meant about trendiness is that Lent is rigid about his ways, and lacks a certain amount of modernity or spunk.

 

@Adam: I think it's the strongest trend along with Nautical, and they tie together pretty well. They're a little too classy for my taste though.

I wouldn't say rigid. I don't really like most recent trends except the 50's, 60's throwback. But I think it's ridiculous to be telling people who are just getting started on their own styles that they need to go spend hundreds on clothes that will be in fashion for this season or maybe even this year, when they don't even have solid basics for a foundation.

You're right. But from what I can tell, you dress in a very strict fashion, with a lot of radical dos and don'ts. You said that yourself, I think, in the same post in which you criticized Shiny's pic.

Can someone please tell me the difference between a sportscoat and a blazer? Because in New Zealand they appear to be the some [bleep]ing thing!

 

Also, I'm out getting shirts tomorrow, any suggestions on what kinda shirt patterns I should look for, for my body type? All longsleeve shirts by the way.

All the same thing. Although if you get very technical, blazers are usually solid-color, structured exactly like a suit jacket, have buttons of high-class material, and are intended to be worn with odd trousers (pretty much suit trousers minus jacket). Sport jackets technically have more leeway with pattern, button and shape.

 

But really they're all names for the same thing: an odd jacket (jacket that could be a suit jacket if it had matching trousers). People who sweat over the names need to chill most of the time.

 

You should get a red gingham shirt. Be a dandy.

Sports coats were meant to be worn when hunting for example. Elbows patches, resistant fabrics, etc.

Blazers are less casual, and they sometimes have a blazon embroidered under the breast pocket.
