When does it stop?Front desk receptors and customer service people are paid much more than minimum wage. Car salesmen receive commissions along with a paycheck. They're only eager to give you the tour because they get a cut of the profit.

May 3, 201115 yr It's all different here in Australia. Don't have to tip anyone for any amount. It's pretty much all optional, I usually do if the food or service are exceptionally good.

It's not supposed to be a bad job because people are expected to tip. I personally always tip at least 15% unless the service really is awful. That's why you will never see me work purely on commission, neither.Well firstly, working on commission has nothing to do with depending on the generosity of others.And sales is a very reliable job if you know how to do it and take a methodical approach to perfecting your technique. (This is coming from a guy whose dad currently makes $75,000 a year selling mattresses.)The only "what if" in sales is whetheer customers will show up, but if you don't get any customers in a minimum wage job, you'll probably find that the company itsself closes, so that's a risk in both. May 3, 201115 yr It's mostly the attitude of "if I was in their position, I wouldn't be treated good either." And I've never seen waiter/waitresses paid below minimum wage in my area.
