Well, I'm just saying we all have near the same goals. High levels, lots of gp, etc.. Why fight/flame about methods of getting there?

I wouldn't say TIF has become more immature, in fact I'm sure there has been a rise in intelligent discussion and debate.

 

Thats only in Off topic which I still think is kind of immature in a way. Ever since I joined here, more people have been

prone to using memes or spams during discussions which IMO is immature no matter what the situation is.

I have flamed, but i have done it to people who flamed me. But i try not to flame. But it's hard not to. You can report the post, but Forum Tif Admins aren't to strict on people. So a question comes to my mind "Why should i then bother with the report button?"

From what i seen terms "Troll" is used alot. Boring memes that are over 9000 years old. Old mom jokes. I personally haven't seen much of the "Your Mom" jokes on tip it tho.

These forums used to be informative many years ago.

Since Jagex released the knowledge base, tipit has become simply a place to deposit opinions.

Opinions lead to debates, debates lead to arguments, arguments lead to flaming.

Alot of people also have developed egos over the years that leads them to exaggerate data (like xp per hour).

Some even like to tell everybody how to play the right way (aka their way).

Or there are some ignorant people(you know who you are) around who refuse to believe anything they themselves haven't touched, thus calling others names; liers etc and posting incorrect, useless, flame'y or stupid information. Some people even develop personal agendas on trying to make other people look bad in those situations, but that's another story. The fact of the matter is, the quantity of information around these forums is huge, and more often than not, people take the liberty of posting things they know as facts, and then go on the defensive when it doesn't hold out to be true, thus resulting in alot of flame. If people only talked about what they knew(and i make this mistake from time to time aswell), there would be alot less flame on these forums.

 

As for telling other people what to do, firstly, it's not offensive(you are not forcing them to do anything, you don't have control over their decision), secondly, alot of people want to be told what to do(H&A), and lastly, i haven't seen anyone saying that you MUST do something, rather people making suggestions in a matter of what people should do.

 

As for RSKB, i'm afraid, yet again, you are wrong. It has more incorrect information than any of the fansites, not to mention, you get the information with a bigger delay.

We have such a small sample of high level content that we can't make any conclusions about it yet.

 

My opinion on whether or not WGS deserved grandmaster status, for example, changed drastically from the day of its release to after the second and third grandmaster quests were released.

The reason that there are less "funny" topics is because of the Questionnaires sub-forum. Those are the light-hearted topics people don't see anymore.

 

Agreed. I don't know why thy moved those threads. Whiners just got their way because they didn't like it but the rest of us were fine with having some simple "so what was your best kill" topics.

I still can't understand how ignorant the mods have to be to not consider your posts not to be personal attacks/flaming and not delete them because of that. In nowhere in that post did you represent any legit information or anything that would have any discussion value, forget about actually discussing anything.

On actual topic, I have made some rules for myself:

 

The moment someone posts something, it's public information, and to keep it the best possible, it's open for criticism.

If I feel like pointing out some flaws/questions, I first think what I want to say.

Then, I try to think what I am probably lacking, to avoid making myself look like a fool.

If I still think it's worth posting, I might post.

 

Don't feel offended about people's opinions, comments or things they claim to be true.

If someone says 'I think questing sucks', for example, you're almost better to just leave that comment unanswered. There's little to make people like this proven wrong: they don't want to be proven wrong, and then again, it's their opinion. If someone wants to mine copper from 1 to 99 mining, let them. Play your own game, let them play their the way they want to.

Only when they suggest mining copper with steel pick the fastest method to gain mining exp or steel pick better than mithril pick, I might rather try to give a word about the topic. Spreading false 'facts' is no cool.

 

Always have a 'monkey filter'. Sure, most of us think some of the other players are more stupid, more wrong, doing it the way they wouldnt, than the others. So what? Just keep one eye closed and decide you don't have to read their posts. They very seldom are to matter your life, no matter what they contain. You can always ignore the information, and are allowed to do so.

 

If you don't know if you should post or not, you might do it anyways.

Result: The others will flame you, laugh at you, try to prove you wrong.

Sooo... Live with it. They're just internet geeks who play runescape, anyway. They probably won't be kicking your head while you're off to work, as they'll be playing runescape and being smart in the interets. Questionnaires and people like Golvellius killed General Discussion. Like previous posters have said, having topics such as "What gear do you use," ect provoke discussion just as much as the current threads in General Discussion. People who challenge indisputable evidence such as Frost Dragon profits also cause heated debate. I can vouch for the profit gains as I have tested them myself. 3.5-3.8m gp/hr is easy to obtain. Getting to 4m with Frost Dragons requires factoring in long term kills.
