Youmu
OF COURSE 99'S ARE WORTH IT. Without 90+ levels in most skills, dungeoneering will be harder for you especially if you team. Dunge is end-game which pretty much demands you to have 99s in a lot of areas. Otherwise, it's your own choice. green9090
I said this on the party hat thread. Really depends on what you like to do, but generally speaking you should be good with all lvl 80's for most activities out there, after that is it really worth getting most of your skills to 99? no not really, a production skill wont make you better money then combat ever. That is simply the affect of a combat based game. So you can get a 99 in mining or woodcutting but theres no need really unless you want to. The money would be crappy and it would take a while. For production skills its even worse, whats a better investment 99 crafting or a santa hat? I would tell you stock up on the santas! Simply put 99 crafting will not return your investment while a rare will grow in value. The only 99's worth your time to get would be combat ones as combat will return your investment on it. So to recap if you dont wanna read that wall of text, if you have money its better to buy a rare then a 99. If you wanna make money its better to train strength then woodcutting, if you have a lot of money (and dont want a rare or feel like spending it for whatever reason) get prayer and herb rather then smithing, crafting and construction. However if you dont care about all that, then 99's are still worth it  All of this assumes that money is the ultimate goal of Runescape. If you play for total levels, you will have a very different (and equally valid) outlook. After all, after a certain point (99 in all buyables, best equipment for any given situation), money becomes pointless. xxshady
my point of view is all 99's worth it I like maxing skills to get the capes Ya bro, you're gonna remember those awesome capes once you quit Runescape. Protip: You're gonna wonder why the hell you wasted days of your life working for pixels that became meaningless the moment you left the game. It's only worth it if that's what you enjoy. Triquos
I'm starting to wonder whether they are worth it tbh. I'm still waiting for the day for Jagex to say 'we've got updates for all skills including requirements that go up to level 99!' but it hasn't happened yet :( I think it'll happen one day, how long it may take I'm not sure, but either way I want all 99's eventually. And perhaps some 120's :D
Pinata
I enjoy having 99's, my only problem is when people expect you to have a 99. I also don't like when people put you down for whatever skill you get 99. My advice, is that Runescape is a game geared towards how you want to play it, not how others want you to. I'm sure there are even people who use RS as a social network, and have probably put 30+ day into non XP gaining/mini game activities. Also, I don't see stopping at 99 as a bad thing, because there is 25 skills to train, and 99 is a great time to switch skills. Capes in order: Firemaking - Cooking - Construction - 99 Dungeoneering- 120 Dungeoneering - Quest - Strength - Prayer - Herblore - Constitution- Attack - Defence - Ranged - Runecrafting - Magic - Fletching - Mining- Farming - Smithing - Slayer - Woodcutting - Summoning - Thieving - Hunter- Fishing - Agility - Crafting - Divination - Max - Completionist0000 0000 0000 0000 0000 0000 0100 0101
Quyneax
Many 99's have niche uses (99 fm for hc, for example, or 99 herb in dg). I don't think there is any 99 that has no use at all... many uses are in dungeoneering, such as promethium arrows at 99 fletching. Also I personally find (note: this is not an argument) that training to actual 'new content' is far easier than training for levels, even if the goal is not very useful. All_Is_Great
If you like the skill, it's worth it.If you get something out of the skill that will help you immensely, it's worth it. People have different playing styles, people who say combat 99s + dungeoneering are the only ones worth it are people who enjoy the combat aspect of the game (boss hunting mostly). Others who enjoy skilling might have different opinions and think some skills are funner, therefore getting 99 in it is worth it to them. OP, I was in your shoes for a long while, didn't get my skillcape until I was level 121. What happened was I started to train construction about a year ago, and really enjoyed the designing my POH part of the skill, plus it was relatively fast to train, so I decided to max it out and build an awesome house. I finished maxing it out several months ago, and still am working hard to buy materials for my house. It all depends on what you like to do honestly. Grogthurk
I look at 99's as a reasonable stopping point. Sure, I really only do the skills because I enjoy them. I enjoy them in that, I set a goal and I enjoy achieving my goal. At 99 there is some benefit to every skill. 99 Fishing you catch fish faster (lol, I know) for example. While it might not be a crowning personal shark harpoon, with laser-guided sights and you fish 1k sharks a second, kind of achievement, it's still something. Storm
I think any 99 is nice. I don't value exp beyond 99 at all. Except in dungeoneering, in which I don't value exp beyond 120 at all. I don't have any 99s. I don't think a level 90 in untrimmed fletching cape is a noob. Come dance.

IBeATank
It really seems that they aren't right now (except the combat ones), except for dungeoneering. From a F2P standpoint, none of them really are tbh. All the high end stuff is mainly members material, or if it is available for free, its around level 85ish. As for F2P combat, I've seen a 126 lose to characters with lesser stats tons of times. But, seeing as you are a member I won't burden you too much with such things. Although... a 99 that was gotten 100% in free play is an incredible achievement. meili
I got 4 99's (or was it 3 hmmm) before achievement cape and I would say back then it was a huge deal. I even got two 99's back in RS Classic when it was super hard to get. Now? Not so much. Still, if I didn't have a 99 skill I would definitely go for it ASAP. It's worth it to have a 99, especially since today it's really easier. The Runescape Wilderness - Meili's Blog

Also I personally find (note: this is not an argument) that training to actual 'new content' is far easier than training for levels, even if the goal is not very useful.I completely agree with this. Coming back after a few years and seeing that I can do most new quests, but have to gain a few levels to do the hardest ones encourages me to play for a couple months. Coming back to see a single 99 and all other levels too low would just make me sad about wasted time.
Chasm500
I recently have been wondering if 99 was worth the time and money (money for some skills). Ive been wondering this because recently I have been called a noob because I dont have a 99, even though my stats are reasonably high for a level 85, I have multiple skills in the high 70's and low 80's but this is considered bad even though I can do almost anything with these skills, I really think this is a stupid trend that you are either a 99 or you are not, and this thread is Just a way for me to see the communities opinion on this, and also I would like to question if it is worth it to spend the time for a 99 in a skill such as woodcutting which ATM is my highest skill at 84. Please avoid flaming :thumbsup:Personally, I suggest going for cooking/fletching 99 if you don't want to be called a "noob". 99's aren't completely worth it, but I like getting them just to brag about it to my rl friends that play :D Current Goal: 99 Fish
Chasm500
* Another thing to add, Cooking should be about a week, I got 2m xp per week when I was doing it during the summer with about 6-7 hours per day, with about 200-370k xp per hour. WCing should take you about 2-3 weeks, but, it's great for AFK cutting Ivy! Plus, wear a strung rabbits foot for more nests and more money! (Remember to keep the birds nests to crush them and then sell them.) Current Goal: 99 Fish

stonewall337
Not "Worth it" in the sense that most won't pay for themselves, but its up to you. I got 99 attack as my first to 1.) have a nice 99 2.) the cape 3.) in the course of slaying. Some of my others, such as prayer were done mainly for the cape, combat level, and bonuses. Summoning was largely for steel titan, the charms all slayed. Slayer was enjoyment. Same will be for DG, as well as the weapons. Firemaking was just to finish it off. I've been within a day/week worth of several 99's for 6+ months now, I just don't bother getting them quickly.
