How to come up with a signature?

Of course you don't want to give away your real signature that you use for legal things here. You should probably just stick with descriptions.

So I'm having a problem coming up with a signature (For legal use). I really don't know where to start. Where did you come up with yours? Any ideas as to how I could come up with one? I used to use one that was really horrible, I made it up when I was like 10. Need to come up with a signature for my passport, so obviously if someone posts an idea I like I won't go shouting about it. Help is appreciated.

I'm sure there's a lot of discussion to be had here too of course.

My signature is horrible but I can't really change it this late in life now. I went down the path my parents did with their signatures, with initialling my first name then putting my second. For example, if my name was Joe bloggs, it would be "J.Bloggs" With a bit of an underline.

Want to be my friend? Look under my name to the left<<< and click the 'Add as friend' button!

Big thanks to Stevepole for the signature!^

I always wanted a cool signature but I can't seem to make anything work. My dad's is kind of cool but I'm inclined to think that he has better letters in his name for a cool signature.

Mine is just my name with a bit of a squiggle... Maybe your initials joined together? I did that once, it came out pretty nicely. Otherwise, a name with a squiggle (it doesn't even need a squiggle, my friend has just his name with nothing at all) works just as well.

I write my name fast. Sometimes people have special requests, or say something like "write your name in cursive", so I write it fast but a little bit differently.

This would probably be better on the Graphics board, I've heard they do signature help.

My signature is my full name. Actually usually just my middle initial, but honestly my middle name looks the best, I think James is an awesome name to sign. My last name always looks [cabbage]ty because I can't make a capital G in cursive.

my first initial, some squiggles ending in an "l" followed by a very large surname initial lots of squiggles and a z that wraps and underlines the whole thing, with random dots and crosses to signify i's and t's.

Based it on the fact that cursive sucks.

My signature isn't flowing enough imo :( it's R.L.Smith with a uniquely written R sort of like a ) then with the pointy-outy bits going through it (sorry for the crap description) then the rest written quickly with a line underneath.

IMO some names are just easy to make a signature with.

Mine really sucks, first name is Robert, and I can't write cursive so the B and T always screw everything up. My last name is real short, so my signature looks real short, o well, I'm not famous so I won't be giving out ugly autographs :P

My first initial, followed by 'Holmes' with an H that's made of two loops. Then the last bit of the 's' loops all the way round my surname, coming between the 'W' and the 'H'. A good bet is to start off with the style of one of your parents' signatures, then adapt things to make it more flowing. A good way to judge how flowing it is is to do it repeatedly and see how long it takes before you get tired of it. You also naturally eliminate the most jarring parts of it.

Just my regular name with somewhat modified initials - the first letters of my first and last name are rather artfully altered from their regular shapes.

I have found this makes a nice looking signature. Perhaps you should play around with something similar.

My signature has developed from me spelling my whole name out to making my first initial T distinctive followed a little wobbly line for the rest of my first name, my middle initial, then a distinctive H for my last name with a short line which turns into my the last two letters of my last name. Thats probably very confusing to imagine but the more and more I had to use my signature regularly the simpler it got.

Jean-Marie Arouet used an anagram, and he got Voltaire (Arouet Junior = Arouet le Jeune = Arovet L. I.). Lucky letters. My mom's last name rearranges to Anal Mess, actually.

Both my parents have long flowing signatures...I kind of just starting scrawling my name out in cursive (I'm a terribly messy writer) so it looks different every time. Oh well.

I base mine on how my dad did his, and between trying to be like him and forging it my fair share of times (I was a naughty naughty middle school student) I pretty much picked up the style. I'd say its closest to this, a sample picture I found, only sleeker and longer. My last name starts with a Z, and I use the bottom portion as a sort of underline as well.
