Why would it be that way?

Can't teams just find 1 method and stick to it?

Unless there is some benefit it doing it like that.

Also, finding a team really isn't as easy as just casually asking people who don't know you. After all, you're asking whoever you're going with to put their trip at risk for your sake, and potentially trusting you with several hundred million.

Thanks for the answer.

Well i have to start somewhere don't i ;) Seeing some people got picked up through these forums, i figured someone might give me a chance too. But perhaps i'm not that well "known" to be trusted.

Really? Most Tip.Iters who hunt Nex seem to be doing so with OTG or PID. I've only heard of one other team here on Tip.It, really.

I really don't want to go with forum teams, so i asked here. Best place i can remember as i'm not in any pro monsterhunting clan.

I'm in the same boat as you, so I wouldn't mind going with you. Although I probably have outdated information about what to do now.

The few forum teams there are all seem to want people who are already experienced and threaten to kick those who aren't, so I can't really join any of them without having been before.

Unless we find a full team of people like us I can't see a trip happening though. I've asked several people before and we've ended up not going.

Realistically, it's best to start off with a big ls team from rsof and work your way up from that. Even the dgs clanchat is some sort of way to gain respect and be accepted to some nex teams, but really, trust is crucial when dealing with new people. If noone knows anything about them, it's hard to take them on your team. And the rsof suggestion is purely for learning nex'es attacks, which you really can't do by just watching videos. It also helps avoid stupid mistakes that some people still make(rol, tab out) and likely will give some practice to looting graves(and how to do it effectively).

Is it because you're inexperienced, or because you're 90 strength? Maybe you have your own reasons for wanting to keep 90, but having 90 strength means your damage output with claws is automatically about 8% lower on average, which is crucial in pushing through the Smoke and Blood phase quickly.

Barring that, just bluff and say you're experienced. If you've seen a couple videos, are at least moderately intelligent, have good reflexes and a level head, and can follow instructions well, you'll keep up with an RSOF team, experienced or no.

I don't really know. I haven't been rejected from a team for either of them, but at the same time I haven't really had any offers.

It is my 90 strength stopping me from joining a clan though, since I usually meet all the other requirements.

Are there any easy mistakes to make that are usually assumed I'll know about? I'm kind of worried I'll be kicked immediately for doing something they don't like.

Running around. Speaking from experience (as in, I did this), anybody who runs when Nex gets on them makes the kill that much more difficult. Nex has a devastatingly constant damage out-put, so doing as much damage to her as quickly as possible is essential to maximizing the amount of kills/supplies used. So if someone is running, it causes her to chase them and therefore brings her away from everyone else, lowering the DPS significantly.

^ Running from Shadow and "contain this" is a must, but yeah otherwise don't make Nex jump around.

Something interesting from last night...on the blood form, Nex always uses a single-target blood magic attack on the player farthest away from her. So I stood at a distance with full armadyl and divine, tanking the low mage hits while ranging with rigour. Her multitarget mage attack is devastating because her blood spells heal her.

likely will give some practice to looting graves(and how to do it effectively).

I still haven't died at Nex...knock on wood. Everything that can KO you gives you time to safe against it, and her combo potential is lower than Corp's.

Yet still always at least 1 team death per trip

This, pretty much. Other than the shadow phase, don't run around. There's only a few very unusual circumstances where running away is actually beneficial to your team, and they're not expected from beginners, or even many veterans. But really, they'll make this quite clear. A brief glance at RSOF threads indicates that since methods are still diverse, they still state their method. Follow instructions quickly and well and you should be fine. For instance, even the "don't run away" is mentioned in many of the recruiting posts, as well as "break team mates free from ice."

However, if you want to move on from RSOF teams, you'll probably have to get 99 Strength. Like you said, most of the big PvM clans blatantly require combat stats at a relevant maximum. For teams with less strict requirements, you still need to give them a damn good reason to pick you over someone who does have 99 Strength, seeing as 99 Strength is fairly easy to get and provides such a large benefit.

so what was the reason for having half the team rigor and the other turm?

Turm makes blood go faster, rigour makes SS go faster.

so why not decide which form needs to be finished quicker and have the entire team using the correct prayer?

Because if you do poorly on one phase it very quickly becomes a supply-destroying nightmare. If half the team are specialized to outdamage each, then neither ends up healing too much.

I forsee the possibility that making your team entirely one or the other would hurt your team in the long run. It doesn't matter how long you take in one method if the other is twice as long. Experimenting would be required.

EDIT: green beat me to it. :wall:

Wouldn't this almost make Chaotic Kiteshield a better option? I've wondered sometimes about the true effectiveness of the Spectral that most teams seem to want (At least on the RSOF, I don't really know of any of the clan's requirements) since Nex's mage is extremely accurate, but the Chaotic Kite has superb melee-defensive bonuses and no negative-ranged attack. I can picture that saving a bit more damage.

Then again... I guess there's the prayer bonus.

I disagree. An unholy book gives you +2 prayer and +8 ranged attack over a spectral, while the spectral has massive defence bonuses for both magic and melee. Nex's attacks can miss, and defence does make that happen more often. And she doesn't just miss once in a blue moon - it's a noticeable number of times in defensive gear. I'll count next kill if you want.

Considering how high your ranged bonus should already be, the extra couple splashes per kill from the Spectral are more useful than the small offensive bonuses from unholy book. I do, however, think that EEKS > Spectral by a small margin.

The problem is that not everyone has the best connection, so basically, when you screw up on her special attacks you are susceptible to dieing. I agree though that it's normally hard to die at nex because of her constant, lowhitting damage.
