01-Mar-2011 - Elemental Workshop IV

Has anyone got a picture of the full elemental armour? Purple stuff, I mean.

In any case, I'm looking forward to the whole set. I doubt they'll do astral, since only lunar clan know about that, but I'm certainly looking forward to getting the whole set. What I really don't understand, though, is why the helm has to look so darn stupid?

I think you've got a good point about Astral.

I'm kinda looking forward to seeing Blood (red) and Nature (green). Being the fashionista I am, I love new clothes! <3:

It would be a good point if it wasn't for the small fact:

There is already an astral door in the corridor and as seen in the chaos puzzle this guy knows about astral runes.

Plus if we assume a full set to come we have:

Legs, Ring, Amulet, Weapon, Cape.

Runes remianing:

Astral, Nature, Law, Death, Blood

5 items to set, 5 runes left.

And the upcoming belt slot?

@Various people above.

Soul could be included could not be since manipulating the rune powers seems to tie with rc.

Also if belt slot does come soon belt could replace weapon which still makes a set.

If it does include soul + belt slot comes it still fits with weapon.

Personally (heavily speculative):

We know the chaos energy in the apprentices new body has done something bad.

I think nature, astral, law will continue on the defence armour type works then plot wise the workshop guy will of died and apprentiece gone evil/mad

Then apprentice will work with the "evil" type runes (death and blood) on something more offensive.

Final chamber will be a soul room where the apprentice is still alive and out of control and it'll be a "boss fight" where its not combat, instead we sneak around the edges (think kennith's concern type sneaking) and solve the puzzle of various machine elements to kill the apprentice/restore him to being good by giving him a soul. And this room will also unveil the soul rc altar as a reward.

Quest was o.k. The first puzzle was a little tricky for me, the second puzzle I liked.

Made all the sets now if only we had more bank space or if we could store all the sets in our house....... :-|

Oh crap! Bank space!

Well - it appears that I won't be making much of this new gear for a while, yet ... <_<

Ah, but that armour has to be in sets. I think until they have the full set, they won't to avoid a TT-esque fiasco.

I don't understand though-wasn't it..erm...vitruvius? that was making the machines, not the apprentice? Why do we have such terrible armour? Can anyone show me a pic of gloves and boots for elemental or body armour?

What dissapoints me a little in these quests is that it focuses very much on the mechanisms to prime the bars and create them, but tells practically nothing on the actual smithing techniques. That could make a really interesting subject (apart from the helms) because, well, how do you make a transparent shield? How do you vary those bodies? How do you shape those gloves?

Interesting to hear about astrals, it seems they are on then. I'd be surprised if death and blood are in there though, seeing as those are just so very combattic, however I guess chaos was in there.

Finally speaking of which, why wasn't chaos black or gold, and cosmic a paler yellow? That would tie in with the rune guardians:

Brown just looks so dull!

I'm not an efficienado.

I'd say odds of blood and death being in are very high.

Very have nature and astral on current corridor AND another locked door that will lead to another corridor.

We know it will be a corridor because if it was just 1 run it'd be a locked rune door (same as body, nature and astral have been/are)

And I highly doubt we would have an entire corridor JUST for law runes or that finale quests are gonna suddenly splinter off and have no rune energy related rooms.

In terms of plot so far:

Vitruvius discovered the elemental ore and how to initially forge it, he then took on an apprentice and set about finding ways to infuse the elemental metal with other rune energies. (Ew1)

The first one he discovered how to do was mind energy, it nearly killed him to infuse one bar and knowing his apprentice to be a bit dim and useless told him not to use the machine.

The apprentice used the machine anyway and managed to make himself into a mindless drone. (EW2)

Vitruvius set about trying to restore his apprentice using body rune energy only to completely kill him (EW3)

Vitruvius some how still had the apprentices mind (one would assume in the bar he primed?) and set about restoring him again. He found out how to bring inanimate mechanical drones to life using cosmic energy and thus created Da-Vi and managed to place his apprentice's mind in another similar construct. (EW4 Cosmic room)

Vitruvius then went back to his original studies and decided to try and make Da-Vi operate in a more lifelike manner using chaos energy to mimic the chaos on thought and action of the human mind and was successful. He warned the apprentice to not use the chaos machine, but he did anyway infusing his machine body with chaos energy which had unforeseen outcomes... (Ew4 chaos room)

This the foreshadowing outcomes is presumed to be bad (afterall it is chaos energy and it'd be lame cliff hanger if it wasn't bad) and is where people speculate that perhaps the apprentice killed Vitruvius and took over his work to more evil ends.

As for sucky armour so far:

As I said before on the thread this armour has close ties to rc. chaos is only lvl 35; for lvl 35 armour (ignoring effort to get it) its reasonably strong.

I think the whole point about the elemental armour is that it's a story of scientific progress, from something that's completely theoretical and useless to something that's revolutionary with applications to the outside world. Also, you'd think Vitruvius, the guy who made the first working computer, would pick a better apprentice.

Yes. Given that Vitruvius is possibly the greates metallurgist and magical theorician ever to have existed on gielinor, I suppose it must have been heart-breaking to have a stupid and lazy one.

But you can't just abandon an apprentice. I'm sure Vitruvius oneday hoped that he would be better than he is as of yet.

I'm not an efficienado.

I suppose he could of not known how [wagon] this apprentice was until he made the mistake tht fried his mind?

Then being a good guy Vitruvius worked to save him (and jsut happend to advance his research a bit doing it)

Then having turned him into a living machine he culdn't exactly ditch him and probably didn't expect him to be dumb enough to play with the machines and end up doing bad to himself AGAIN

Can anyone explain this [wagon] thing to me? Maybe in a PM if it's rude, I've seen it used several times on tip.it already but nowhere else.

It's tip.it censor, any word deemed censorable is replaced with a word that has the same rough meaning but is more pg and its put in square brackets.

My theories about the items and their slots:

Ring-Law-Indigo

Amulet-Soul-Gold

Legs-Death-Black

Weapon-Blood-Red

Cape-Nature-Green

Belt-Astral-Silver

Haven't tried it yet, sounds like it's got to be better than 3.

Say, is there difference in effectivness between the different shields at wyverns?

Gloves and boots look cool, save one thing- Everything looks like dungeoneering armor now. Torva, Elemental, everything.

i had my hopes that this would build up to a master quest one day leading to soul armor, but at the rate its going it will be inferior to black dhide

If it was better than black d'hide, all those level 80+ crafters would be out of work

That could make a really interesting subject (apart from the helms) because, well, how do you make a transparent shield? How do you vary those bodies? How do you shape those gloves?

The way I see it, each piece of armor consists of that hunk of metal you started with shaped into a sort of mount that's been specially designed so that when you make contact with it, it projects the energy stored in it outwards in the form that the mount was designed for, weaving a frame from intertwining strands. The metal is not as much the material that serves to shield you as it is the energy projection. That would be why parts are transparent here and there.

It's probably really bad at blocking physical things because it's just pure energy that was taken from the different aspects of your mind. I hope you're wearing some warm underclothes!

(I don't think it was meant to serve as an armor in the normal sense, but because they're taking so long to finish the series, the actual use hasn't surfaced yet.)

Did anybody else chuckle when they got to the part in the story when the apprentice realized that being a robot could be awesome?

Don't get me started. One of the worst mistakes Jagex made was allowing crafting to make level 70 armor. Still remember how that, plus the 35% special for magic shortbow let range be king of the heap for months. If I could retroactively change things, would have made respawn of green dragons to be 5 minutes like runite (or less, depending on numbers) then raised crafting level to make green d'hide to 87 hood, 94 legs and 98 body.

Anyway, back on track. Anyone think that Jagex is going to later on allow the Elemental Workshop as a way to imbue all types of metals? Be interesting if you could imbue runite bars with blood runes (or even combinations like Blood, Soul and Nature) to create armor with interesting full set abilities. Nice way to mix smithing, magic, crafting and runecraft.

How many more quests are planned for this series?

3 or 5 depending on how the last parts turn out.

Making prime bars continue to take quite a slow process. In the future, could we see a reward where this process is sped up?

I've been thinking of putting 4 carts on the track for some time, however I ran too short of development time to implement this feature. Perhaps next time.

Taken off the RSOF FAQ.

This quest series, like every other in Runescape, is going to take forever ;_;

3 would fit for nat/astral

law/death

blood/soul

5 would work well for

nat/astral

law

death

blood

soul

And would make sense

nat/astral obviously next.

then depending on plot size and content chocies you'd have law/death, blood/soul or all 4 spilt into their own quests.

Chaos- Brown

Astral- White?

Law- Dark Blue?

Death- Black?

If you follow this http://runescape.wikia.com/wiki/Rune_guardian or the colors of talisman (since body tali is blue and chaos is brown).

You should then deduce that Astral should be purple, not quite the purple as in elemental purple. Have no idea for soul yet.

Omni body, anyone?

2/10, puzzles were too easy.

How to solve the cosmic one? I really have no clue where to start

Consequtive too. Priceless.

Imo, once I got the hang of the chaos puzzle, it was just a huge pain in the ass rotating the cubes to get the right instructions.

Personally, I thought the puzzles were quite easy too. The Chaos puzzle took me a little time to figure out exactly what the hell I was trying to do.

Yeah, maybe we might find an adventurer stupid enough to do all the work for us. Wait... FUUUUUUUUUUUUUU

That made me lol.

To be fair, the EW3 puzzle wasn't exactly hard, it just had a fail of control placement; if the switches had all been located on some kind of control board, similar to the Cosmic machine controls, it would have been a lot simpler. Putting the control levers around the periphery of the room is where the puzzle failed.

That being said, I'm glad these machines were much easier to use. It took me a bit of experimenting and trial and error, but once I figured out the controls, it was a cinch. Like someone before said, the worst part was moving the Chaos belts around to get the right box in the CPU.

btw, anyone else get the "CPU" and "RAM" jokes?

Don't forget break the law and operate chaos.
