Lythiaren
I actually went p2p because of all those darn updates. I ran out of quests, so I forked over my monies just for more of those. And then I was raising all those other skills just so I could do more and more quests. :P And what did I encounter not 5 minutes after my first login on a members' server? A level 3 asking me for free stuff. I was wearing full mith. And my combat level was a mere 52. Why I was suddenly a target for begging, I'll never know... And now I've got some guy following me around giving me a bazillion raw sharks at random intervals just because I helped him finish a couple of quests. Odd. *scratches head*
Gamerr
P2P was the best solution for me. I got crazy about f2p, i had no problem with the slower leveling but with the community. Everything is based on begging, not knowing anything and follow high levels. I feel that if you walk being 110 combat in p2p, you almost won't get followed, but in f2p you get tons of 'newbs' after yourself. Small side comment Ami, you say that you don't want attention, go p2p because there nobody gives you attention. (i mean nobody follows you). One of the reasons you should get it, but i understand if you won't.
Mirielen
Great article! Being a P2P and visiting a friend in F2P worlds is VERY annoying because of the beggars. I think all the F2P'ers should take the challenge like Forsaken Mage did. ForsakenMage: I salute you! :)

thrash-boy
Thats one of the best articles i have ever read! Great Work! :D I though when i got memmbers it would be the greatest thing ever to happen to me on runescape! It turns out it wasent. It was great for the first 2 or 3 weeks, but then it just became to much. Should i do this quest or this one?... Should I train combat or cut magics?... i think i preferd it in f2P. Intriguing
Although I, as of yet, fail to see how any of that besides the first few lines had anything to do with the topic, nice article. Best f2p skills I've ever seen. Cool.

JLSteinhart
If Runescape was only P2P, i would not play, and many other people wouldn't either, but I would be a P2P to get away from the overcrowding of mines which I hate in the F2P worlds. My friend let me borrow his P2P account once and it was a great expierence, but the $5 is still too much. http://sig.runeweb.net/sig/12/j1l3s.pngE/IMG]
dragoncmd
Great writing....Again. I've always wondered why people are so proud of being F2P and now I have my answer. P.S. captianant
dude..... you are totally right! my freind (who doesnt play runescape anymore) started paying for my membership about 3 years ago, but before then i thought just about all the same thoughts except with rsc stuff (like u couldnt wear members armor and wepons in f2p on rsc) but back in the day when i was f2p on rsc it WAS fun! granted i would go over 2 his house and gape at the crazy stuff to do f2p was still AWESOME on rsc good write! one of my favorite weekly things to date! The_Piperess
Whilst the topic is still active, let me chip in to say how I loved reading ForsakneMage's article. Although I haven't been playing RuneScape that long, I could still somewhat relate to a considerable number of things mentioned in there. I haven't gotten around to reading many of the site's articles yet, but the few I have read I found totally enjoyable. ^_^
Xxflip91xX
Love the article but I would have to disagree on a few terms, yes I know some of the new updates arent that great but sometimes I feel that for $7 dollars its not that much. I enjoy the game so much and I usually dont raise the memebrs skills I think its exciting to have a clan and things although I do understand where your coming from, I also do not have much time to play this game and usually my parents hate it when I buy membership so I work really hard every month to make them let me I guess its a fair trade off eh? Well I just wanted to post my opinion, Nice Article =) Sup
abyssalreaper
runescape wasnt created 5 years ago. it existed back in 99 but im not sure if it even dated back in late 98. but i haev to say we've started to play around the same time though. i've been told a few things about the now "Classic" of runescape. strength pots use to be purple and u could pretty much massacre anyone if they walked out of the main town. u could have been a lvl 20 picking off a lvl 3 lol. crazy!!! : ) (this im sure of because it came from the horses mouth, well technically not anyone that worked with runescape but several players which were around at that time) too bad that dont exist no more, then again it gives the low lvl peeps to train their stats up. and when u joined runescape on the game page, yes on the game page where it says create new user, it was that simple back then, u got to pick what kinda player u wanted to be like warrior, magician and i dont remmeber the rest :P lol. and there was no tutorial either, which saves alot of hassle. i always chose mage cause it seemed fun hehe. the wilderness back in those days was the most amazing thing, i always had a thing for going into lvl48 where the greaters lived, something just intrigues me to go there, maybe it use to be a challenge for me to go that far. and the saphire in the spider house always amused me, it was a must get hehe. and thats also the place where i found my christmas cracker on the christmas of 01, then i got scammed lol. what a bumma! along with my pumpkin and easter egg. used to be a rumour that easter egg heals 40hp, but some say 12, i dont know but nobody would try these days lol. and the chat filter back in the early stages was so appaling which was a must exploit thing for me lol. u could have swore by just putting a space inbetween one of your letters : ). oh yeah, and the best thing was rune long those days, i got my first for bout 15k and some nats and chaos, i couldnt hold it yet but i knew it would have been great. then rune sq came out and everyone was like :0. then followed by battle axe, kite and r2h. the first lot of r2h's and battle axe went for more than 1mill, too much for me back in those days. but it was awesome, a break through for all runescapians. dam, bluerose13x must of profited heaps from that, sitting back counting all the dough she's made in a few clicks of the mouse, not in any way taking her hard work and all for granted. and back then u couldnt see what the other person's combat level was, so u could be talking to a lvl 3 or a lvl 80. oh and the major flaw of runescape back when it came out was that pking was impossible, u could log out during in combat : ). i have to admit i did that once when i was fighting a wizard in the wiz tower lol. that was bloody awesome. oh yeah and the disk of returning, i always wondered what happens if u went down the hole and drop ur disk of returning? would u be stuffed forever? lol, i never dared to try that. theres probably a ton of things that i've probably forgotten so yeah, thats my memories of runescape : ) the now classic anyways. oh wait and the trade system, i think only use to be able to fit 12 items? or was it 16? and there wasnt a second confirmation box. and then in 02 a new trade screen came onboard with one flaw! one very important one, it had a second confirmation screen and for those of us who had 56k modem and it lags a lil when getting on to the second trade box, we can press accept providing that the other person was the first to accept and waiting for ur response. well anyways when u click accpet it lags a lil b4 getting on to the confirmation screen and u can click on what u offered to take it off and then quickly accept the confirmation screen hoping the other person didnt see that u've taken your item off. cheeky eh? well thanx for listening to this long post of self reflection : ) or much rather my reflections of runescape in the 5 yrs (almost) Jagex even said it themselves that runescape was public in January 2001 and on topic really good article. Keep up the good work! :) Proud Acolyte of the Ooc Cmon Steve you can do it!
eliisgood
Very nicely written.....I must say that there I found many benefits to being a f2p'er for the 4 years that I was. I kind of miss the RSC community fell

Cuban, you're a scammer like the rest of them, just from way back. You should be banned for admitting to it. Forsaken Mage, that was a great article. You have captured exactly why I will never be P2P. I have enough trouble finding time to level up the skills I ALREADY have access to, let alone adding another six for me to work on. I'd rather be really good at the skills I have access to now, rather than being average at every skill. I already have my work cut-out for me now in F2P, so I'll take the updates metered out to us 'poor' F2Pers when they come. Thanks Jagex for giving us tidbits now and again, and thanks Forsaken Mage for explaining the position of so many of us F2Pers. Cheers, ThreeRivers1 99 Attack at 102 Combat. :DNow training fletching... ;)
Veryhyper
I always think of a F2p going P2p like a fat man going into a pizza hut buffet. If there's to much food he'll eat to much to fast, thus getting an upset stomach and not a good time. But if there's just enough with more coming at a good speed then a good time he will have. cuban_link
now now ThreeRivers1 , no need for the name calling, sounds like somebody is a little bitter? without exploitation how can we find faults? and i've never scamed anyone trading. well if i tell u about the 100k and needle thing to make it a mill are u gonna point the finger at me and say i tried scamming someone? or that map pieces could have been traded a long time ago so plate pures were possible are u gonna tell me i've took advantage of something that was legal back then? i think you've taken it the wrong way. players like me who like to be "informed" about scams would take more precautions checking the second trade box. knowing a scam does not mean you would use it to scam someone else. maybe u should get your facts right b4 u point the finger? well just a thought. anyways.... theres a trade scam now, they offer items in notes and when u go pay em, they switch the note. eg. rune plate note, they switch it to an iron plate note, so u should check your second trade screens

Dragonmaker9
I had four months of members which ended in August. I've recently returend for the extra skills but I have to admit F2P is just as fun as members sometimes. I hope you continue to have fun with F2P like I know i will be at the end of this month.
