Habits picked up from video games

Featured Replies

I'm pretty sure this is the correct place for this. All that's really in this subfourm is discussions about individual games, but i think this is the best-suited spot >.>

Anyway, today while making a pitcher of ice tea i caught myself humming the theme to Syrup's shop from the Zelda series. But then i thought about it and realized i always do that whenever I'm mixing something like juice or tea with a spoon.

Though being such a hardcore fan of the series since i was a kid, it was no real surprise to me since my childhood consisted of running around in my back woods with a green hat and a wooden sword and shield.

But with the days of wanting to be Link behind me, i've realized that i've still kinda' maintained some things with my obsession. For example, sometimes I'll tap my shoes on the ground when standing around somewhere like Link does in Ocarina of Time. Heck, i even sneeze like he does in OoT.

Of course such things could have just become force of habit since i was obsessed with the game at such a young age. But I'm wondering how long things like this will last XD

Has anyone else developed strange habits like this before?

I always check tops of doorways for sticky bombs :(

I also find myself turning around in case of spies more frequently.

I always punch people in the face after dragging them out of the driver-side window/door, before stealing their car. Just like in GTA3.

Oh, I also pull my knife out while bunny-hopping or running, just like in CS:S.

Thanks to survival horror/shooter games, where you wait for an elevator or something similar, whenever I'm in a room and have to wait for something, I sit in a corner where I can see every entrance.

I tend to think in game slang from time to time :P

Also, because of several different games, I tend to carry around a hunting knife wherever I go.

Lol I've done the Link foot-tapping too occasionally.

There was a time where, after playing so many RPGs, whenever I thought of poison in rl, I thought it was just an annoying inconvenience-- nothing life-threatening!

Muggi, that would be so good haha!

I learned basic spelling and grammar from Pokemon and Runescape.

COD helped me spot things/people out in the distance too.

I get really scared sleeping into the wall incase of backstabs. My bro tried once, and scared the jesus out of me. I'm an atheist now, also.

You people are obsessed with vidya...

Only stuff I've ever had is I would sometimes think I heard a grenade explode (from COD) and I thought I saw a blast shard on the wall at my school after playing Infamous 2 for like 5 hours straight.

Runescape improved my typing skills tenfold while CoD helped me to pick out more details from things and improved my reaction time in general.

Admittedly, Runescape was godly for my typing skills. While playing lazer tag I'm often at the top of the charts and I also have a habit of holding my saxophone like an assault rifle.

Video games taught me how boring my life is :/

[bleep]ing 21st century man. I wish I was born in like 1200s feudal Japan.

Kinda how I felt right after I walked out of the theater when I watched Avatar.

I guess this is the only thing that applies to me. I dunno if video games have much to do with it, but I'm [bleep]ing awesome at laser tag.

Having a slightly higher reaction time and accuracy than those who don't play FPS games doesn't sound too far fetched does it?

I'm an atheist now, also.

The response I was typing: What does that have to do with gaming?

Then I realized:

scared the jesus out of me.

and lol'd.

No, but it might just be that I've been to that same laser tag place a million times.

I can honestly say that Video Games have given me no habits at all :/ I guess that's a good thing.

My relaxation method involves a bottle of lotion, beautiful women, and partial nudity. Yes I get massages.

I have a habit of humming the Pokemon battle theme when I hear people fighting.

I tend to quote obscure one liners from video games.

Also my head plays that jingle from the Zelda games when I find an object I'm looking for.
