Most overrated bands?

I really don't get why everyone's saying that AC/DC's overrated. Sure, their vocalist is pretty bad/unique :lol: now and the songs aren't so great, but have you guys even listened to the old AC/DC, like with Bon Scott? They had some awesome songs back then, way better than the newer ones. And to the person that said all their songs sound the same, maybe two songs sound the same: Dirty Deeds and TNT. I mean, come on, what about It's A Long Way to the Top, or Let There Be Rock, etc. There are many great older songs of their's.

 

 

 

I actually didn't mean the vocals/lyrics are bad. All their songs have the same structure: An opening guitar solo, repetition of a riff and a catchy chorus.

 

I like their music, but it's always the same. Period. That's what I said.

 

The four examples you stated, listen to them thinking about the 3 structural points above. You'll see. That, however, doesn't make their songs worse, they are all equally good, wich drives me tired of them at times.

 

 

 

Also, I would rather be called apinagez than "the person that said all their songs sound the same", because that sounded kind of arrogant, and I'm sure you didn't mean that. Did you?

Yea, I was actually wondering. Could you explain why they are overrated? For all I know they're a band that's only liked and hyped by people who've got poop for brains that don't even know what they like about the group. And they aren't very well liked amongst critcs and people that do know what they are talking about. I don't think they're seriously overrated, so I was wondering why everbody here does. I say that AC/DC is overrated because every single person I know has an AC/DC shirt as some sort of fashion statement, even though they've never listened to the band before.

Staind (the only band i can truly claim i hate, all it is is lyrics about how th singer is depressed,....it just pisses me off)

Most people have poop for brains. So what's your point? That doesn't mean they aren't rediculously over-rated, especially how the calibre of their music has gotten much worse since after Nimrod. (Thought Time of Your Life is also riduculously over-rated.

American Idiot the album has been number 1 in some weird chart for nearly 2 years now.. The song 'American Idiot' got number one for best rock song ever or summit on Kerrang.. beating Metallica and such other classics, and it's not even good.. American Idiot wouldn't even be in my top 1000 songs and I don't actually hate Green Day.. their video's are played on Kerrang, probably MTV aswell not sure tho, every 10 mins or so, they're always given praise off Kerrang for being the 'Best punk band ever' I mean c'mon, you really believe they're the best punk band ever? Last year at the Kerrang award thingy, dunno the exact name, they got 'Best live band' then they showed a performance, and it was terrible, worst live performance I'd ever seen/heard.. then I remember some other MTV award thingy last year, they won at least 3 awards, best album, best vid or summit? Their only good vid is Jesus Of Suburbia, and that won nothing as far as I know. And for the last time, their album American Idiot is hardly the 'best album ever'.. it's poor.

If you can't think for yourself how can you rate something? Would you care about people who rate something but they jut copy what somebody else sats? No? Then how can they be overrated. And what's up with that "proof" so, they one a Grammy (the Grammy's, the oscars of music if I'm not mistaken) for best album and they won a lot of nominations at the VIDEO awards.

My hat is off to a metal band containing that many members. It takes quite some timing to get all 9 in the right rhythm and mistakes could mess up alot.

 

Slipknot arent metal. And they only have 3 members who actually do anything, the rest are stupid things. Like a DJ? Some guys beating a big drum? Way overrated and stupid band.

Well, you said that only people with poop for brains like them (that may or may not include the Grammy people), and you also said they were not well liked amongst critics, which is clearly false, since they won one of the biggest grammies...They've also achieved some of their greatest popularity for what I feel is some of there worst work.

 

 

 

And that is my opinion. I listened to them all through the 90's, they were one of my favorite bands, and I was quite aware of the work. And they've pretty much kicked all their old fans in the backside, and went on to become make-up wearing, pop-spewing sell-outs, doing some of their least interesting work ever. And one of the reasons they're so popular is because they are over-exposed to the max (I was once at the movies talking about how they were sell-outs: the next 2 movie trailers had 2 Green Day songs in them). That's my opinion. I'd love nothing more than to say that I liked Green Day, because their old work is def some of the best in the 90's. But Recently...just no.

But The Who and Led Zeppelin i think are around the same "calibur" but I don't really see Deep Purple being better than Zeppelin. Deep Purple though is highly underrated.

isn't skills and talent the same thing? but the drummer, i think is joey jordison or something, is actually pretty talented. But i overall don't enjoy Slipknot.

I saw Slipknot live in concert, and I have to say, they put on a decent show. They all worked together, and believe me, every last member was busy doing something. The guy who "beats the drum" is a percussionist, who also plays a second drum set. He, along with the DJ, and the main percussionist keep the beats going. They all worked hard, and played good music. Slipknot isn't my favorite band in the world, but at least know what you're talking about before you say something like that.

Any rapper...but I'm just biased in general against them LOL. U2 is kind of overrated..they have good songs, but the majority of them kind of stink. Simple Plan is teh suck, Nirvana kind of stinks, thats about it.

 

 

 

I dont know why people dont like Panic! At the Disco. They're so different then everything else, but w/e. Its not every day you get a Jazz/rock/random song titled band. Metallica is good..I think I saw on the first page someone said Iron Maiden..Like WTF are you on? Iron Maiden is only one of the best bands ever. Blind Guardian is good as well. I like Nightwish Once, but all of their other stuff is rather repetitive and similar.
