Nice guide, but how do you keep the dragons from meleeing you? Do you just keep running when they get close, or are there some safespots where only their breath can get you? Maybe put some pics up about that.

perfect grammar is one thing, typing like a drugged monkey and enjoying it is another

Well, I think I've said it before, but I don't do research on steel dragons anymore, and these questions would require me to do research which I don't anymore.

Sorry people, this topic isn't gonna be updated anymore.

Metal Dragons have different coding, they will only melee you if you are in the melee square next to them, this is why mage is so effective. I guess it's because the lazy things can't move too fast, because they are so heavy! :)

i like ampellix's reply on page 1. It tells me more than the actual guide. I've been looking for a good MAGING guide for metal dragons for a while. The melee guides are good, but my stats really arent good enough to melee the dragons.

Well written =D> ! (Pics will [bleep] it up thought)

Yes, they would, but please keep in mind there are censored on these forums, it's not like YouTube where no censors are.

Anyway, thank you, but I can't do anything about the pics. I'm not the same steel dragon expert as I used to be, and this guide is dead.

I'm sick and tired of saying this again and again.

I can't do anything about this. I don't update the guide anymore. Sorry, I got other things to do.

What do the dragons usualy drop other than the 100% things?

by usualy, i mean, what would their most common drop be?

That's what it takes to be a hero, a little gem

to believe that there still exists a right and wrong,

that decency will somehow triumph in the end.

  • 3 years later...

I'm glad to say that after years of not editing this guide, I decided to update it. I made the following updates:

  • Someone told me he can fight steel dragons under level 85 combat, so I changed the guide to note it's HIGHLY RECOMMENDED instead.
  • I fixed some typos.
  • I added Draconic visage to the drop list since it's a very popular drop by those. (though very rare.) Keep in mind that it didn't exist back when I made this guide.
  • I deleted the FAQ "Some friend of mine says these don't drop soul and it can only be found in the Wizards' Guild, is that true?" since I can't imagine anyone asking that ridiculous question.
  • I added "I personally keep them." to the question "Shall I keep the steel bars or leave them?".
  • I also changed 3K runes to 1K, since I always use that many.
  • I deleted the part where I mentioned that you should bring curry to the next trip. You wouldn't be needing it since you won't get a lot of damage if you're careful.
  • I changed the part where I said you should get food from your bank, and said that you should be stealing it instead.
  • I also edited out "Please don't flame", since that's not necessary.

I hope that this is the best guide on how to kill steel dragons. If there is anything you want me to add, please let me know.

Melee-ing them isn't impossible but it is very hard, since you need a lot of prayer potions. This guide tells you how to kill them the easier way.

^

Melee is the best method.

Well, I personally prefer using magic against them, but maybe I should reword that sentence a bit. Maybe I should instead mention that using magic is what I prefer.

Well when a guide is made I expect the best method, not what someone is preferred.

Mage is 4 years out of date, and you rarely see anyone maging them anymore with fire bolt.

I will admit that there is a high possibility that this guide is indeed out of date. I mean I haven't edited it since 2007 until just now.

It wouldn't surprise me that the fact that few people use magic on them is not the only thing in the guide that's out of date.

I also noticed that I don't mention any of the other locations steel dragons can be found. I haven't been to Kuradal's Dungeon or Fortress of Ghorrock, so really I have no idea about the methods get to the steel dragons there.

Can somebody help me out here? I want this guide to be more up-to-date.

EDIT: I made the following changes:

  • I deleted the sentence where it says steel dragons are the strongest non-boss monsters since that's no longer true.
  • I also reworded the sentence mentioned that meleeing them isn't the best way.
  • I deleted the "This sucks" FAQ since I can take criticism, and it isn't needed.

You're so right, maybe it was a mistake to bump this thread up. All I know about killing steel dragons are things that are already mentioned in this guide. I need to learn so more about them if I want this guide to be a worthy guide.

There is no denying that my guide is very outdated and there is no denying this is not the best guide on fighting steel dragons.

I should just give up on this guide. Back in 2007 this would have been a great guide since there weren't as many things back then as there are today. This guide used to be a great guide explaining the best methods to fight them, but not anymore.

I know nothing about the using potions other than antifire, I know nothing about the other locations, I know nothing about meleeing them or ranging them. All I know is how to mage them, and I don't even know the best way to do it.

Maybe it's time to close this thread, well, it's totally up to the admins and mods if this thread should be closed or not, but clearly I'm no expert on this subject.

Use cannon, overload, turmoil, ks or claw specs. A defender might be preferred, also due to cannon accuracy.

You can still update the guide to be useful, also for mage, but you should include at least staff of light, arcane stream, fire surge.

A comparison of cannon versus no cannon and overload versus xmage versus wolper would be good.

Wait a minute, are you sure it's a good idea to use a defender? Last time I checked you need the antidragon shield to be able to defend yourself against the dragon fire. Then again I only use the old methods so I wouldn't know.

You know what what, I might update the guide, maybe. If I feel up to it. But I'm not gonna copy and paste stuff from another website since that would be stealing. But right now I don't feel up to it.

As for now I'm gonna remove the link to this guide from my sig since it really needs some improvements.

super antifires from the herblore update. provide 100% firebreath immunity allowing for use of 2h weapons or 1h weapons with a defender.

When this guide was written, Steel Dragons were one of the highest leveled monsters one could fight. Dragon Platelegs used to be a several mil gp.

If this out-dated guide is to get updated, you should probably re-familiarize yourself with the game some more. You lack much knowledge of what new things have happened to many of the combat-related places, items, and skills.

Currently i see the guide lacks

-new locations of steel dragons

-changes in value of item drops

-potential effigy drops not mentioned

(and already mentioned)

-Better magics

-Better Armours

-Familiars

-Better Potions

Only reason why i ever kill them now if for the potential vissy/effigy drops and as slayer tasks. The weapon and runes that drop just help to break even.

How to kill steel dragons

What you need:

rapier

d defender

super antifire

good armor

a pwny

where to go: kurdals dungeon

how to do it: drink super antifire, redrink it every 5 mins. use pwny scrols when hp is low

Sorry, but there is no need for a guide like this. Steel dragons = slayer task, not potential profit. Anyone who is serious about killing them does it on task. They aren't hard to kill, there is no need for a guide. If you are serious about making a guide, and reaquaint yourself with the game. If you didn't know what I meant by "pwny", then you need to learn about the game before you can teach about the game.
