What happens with emos and goths, as with other groups, is that there are idiots among them who give the whole group a bad name. And as they dress all the same, it's easier to think they are all idiots than to get to know each one of them, and then judge.

They're either intelligent, or they're pseudo-intellectuals. Don't be fooled. :P

The only people I actively make fun of (in my head - making fun of people outloud is rude and it can effect people pretty deeply) is "Metal-heads". Not because of how they dress/look or what music they like, but because they bash everyone elses tastes in music, and dictate openly what is "metal" and what isn't. If it sounds metal, guess what? It is. There is no such thing as "Nu-metal" and "Punk goth shock-rock emetal" or any other dumb label they put on music to protect the sacred "metal" name. These type of people are the kind that get pissed off and start ripping their hair out when people say "You know, Slipknot is a pretty good metal band!"...You can almost hear them thinking (if they're smart enough to keep their mouth shut - most are not) "OMFG IDIOT THEY ARE NU-METAL PANSIES! GO LISTEN TO ."

I hate them with a passion and would not be sad if they all got REAL peices of metal in their heads.

You know, if you wanna be what's considered 'goth' or 'emo' (God only knows what that entails, nowadays) go ahead and be it. Just don't try and thrust it upon me, like many emos seem to do around here. It just fuels the stereotype that you want attention.

from my post in music and movies:

the main reason i dont like emo people is because 95% of them are posers. go look on (you know what). right now its trendy to grow your hair long/dye it black/wear tight clothes, and have an emo (you know what) where im from. it magically makes them "hot" because we cant see half their face. also become goofy and girly and not depressed whatsoever in real life, and *bam* your emo.

and the main reason other people dont like them (including me):http://attentionemokids.ytmnd.com/

Ah crap, I forgot part of being emo is wearing tight clothes, too. I guess I can never be emo. :( Imagine a slightly muscular man in women's pants and a shirt 3 sizes too small...I think I'd bridge the gap between "Emo" and "Homo".

emo version of the ha! ha! quaker guy.

i think most emo kids are just emo because its popular. i know a few people who look exactly like emo, and listen to emo music, but they are always happy. just another fad that hopefully will pass soon.

I hope you understand the whole 'emo' scene has died down quite a bit, and now people are more stereotyped on being 'emo' or not by their haircut. Most kids with that haircut don't cry and cut themselves, and many do not listen to what is considered 'emo' music. THis just really annoys me when you look at somebody, see their hair, with their bangs in their eye combed over a bit, and are like "Hey look at that emo". It ammys me all the more, as my brother has that stereotypical haircut, yet he hates Hawthorne Heights, he has never once hurt him self in any way, and he doesn't go in his room and cry. Ugh. :wall:

By the way, lonellama, that was very immature, I bet people could find many things to make fun of you as well.

then dont have that haircut, thats like having long dreadlocks and saying you enjoy nsync

People around here see me as "goth". :P I think it's because of the music I listen to. I tend to wear alot of band shirts too, but I wear whatever I like.

Even though, alot of people tell me that I'm "gothic", I don't think I fit the stereotype. I don't hate anyone. I'm not mean or bitter (at least I hope not), and I'm generally accepting of everyone. ^_^

I don't like emo music, I think that goth and emo are both fads that most people grow out of. I don't like alot of "goths" and "emos" trying to force their views/lifestyles/ideals/music on me though. Alot of the "emos" around here try to do that. #-o

You know, just because of somebody's hair there is no reason to stereotype them. Hell, I even have somewhat long hair, and just today somebody on IM said 'Oh, your'e that Emo kid'. For God's sake, I am sick of this. Emo music and emo style are different, and don't need to be related together. Let me guess, you have short hair then? So you obviously love Elton John, because he has short hair as well (not to diss Elton John, I like him :P).

I agree, I recently had a conversation with a group of apparent "goths" (black cloaths white skin etc) and it turned out they where highly intelligent individuals, who were quite happy in life, it was a real eye opener on how much people judge others on how they dress, it was amazing for them to be talking about quantum physics and shakespere....anywho thats my 2 cents

It happens. Look at Marilyn Manson, sure he looks wierd as hell but if you've ever seen anyone interview him (or read his book) you'll quickly realise he's freakishly intelligent.

Urgh Marilyn Manson the band is more industrial than goth. Their music is ok, they image thing is kinda bleh, but yea hes got some cool ideas.

i;ve had a taste for everything metal since I was in the 4th grade. It has alot of history with me and I enjoy listening to it very much. Bands like Korn, Slipknot, Cannibal Corpse, Slayer etc. I listen to a little bit of emo and most things that are metal. I used to dress sorta goth. I wore jeans and a band t-shirt nearly 100% of the time. I don't dress like this anymore. I've pretty much totally changed! I wear alot of abercrombie and american eagle stuff now. I don't look like someone who would listen to metal but I still do and I enjoy it just as much as I ever have. It has never effected my attitude at all though. I've always been the same nice person and my music has not effected my personality.

So, the way I see it, being emo is like being a rebel without a cause, right? You choose to be depressed, act depressed, etc. If you would *choose* to be one of those optimists that dress in pink, you would manage it just fine all the same. Meaning either choice you make is not based on the circumstances in your life, but on your own personal preferences (music, mostly, fashion, etc).

I know exactly what you're talking about. Kids, especially grades 6-9, simply choose an entire life attitude like putting on an outfit in the morning. What's funny is watching these same kids trying out new attitudes every couple months, until finally they outgrow all the pretensions and they resemble adults.

All part of growing up

I don't see what's so bad about P!@TD and FOB. You must admit they have good music. Who could possibly resist the livelyness of Dance, Dance or the beautiful cello in Build God Then We'll Talk. I'm listening to it right now.

I hate stereotyping people, just because my hair is in a very bad state and I go shopping looking tattered doesn't mean I'm poor now doesn't it? Perhaps I don't care about how I look. It's not like I'm "grunge" or anything. Same goes for the "emo" and "goth" thing. Just cus someone has long hair, band shirts and tight pants doesn't make him/her a low-life.

emo are people who are depresses about not having anything to be depressed about- they should turn on the news and watched people in starving Africa.

Trying to be a non-conformist by conforming into a sub-culture that has entered the mainstream pop culture sounds pretty pointless...

However a little bit of "emo"ness and sensitivity is pretty cool sometimes... In moderation. :-k

I'm just glad I'm not in school anymore, so I don't have to deal with these annoying trends. What's even better is a BARELY HEAR ABOUT THEM! Awesome.

From my understanding, huge sunglasses (see: Paris Hilton) and guys dressing like girls is "in" now. Damnit...Whatever happened to Tamagachi's and WWJD wrist bands. :(
