List of all Hunting Benefits

Featured Replies

And now, for those who are complaining about the benefits and lacking rewards, heeeeeeere we go (Taken From Searching Knowledge base, plus my own additions):

1. Unique diverse skill. For skillers, this is a dream, as there is many things to do in the skill. I am already hooked :P

2. The barbtail harpoon is a reward from deadfall hunting, once you have trapped and killed a barbtailed kebbit. The harpoon itself is a much more efficient version of the normal harpoon, as it can be equipped, freeing up one extra space in your inventory.

3. Those who enjoy Hunter as much as their Crafting will be able to attach [bleep]es to their leather and dragon vambraces. With a Crafting skill of 32, you can graft the [bleep]es from a wild kebbit onto these vambraces to add a +2 boost to your Strength stat.

4. Range Weapons:

Chinchompa

Range Level - 45

Range Bonus - + 45

Red chinchompa

Range Level - 55

Range Bonus - + 70

Swamp lizard

Requirements - Magic, Range and Attack of 30

Bonuses - Slash +10 Range +20 Strength +22

Orange salamander

Requirements - Magic, Range and Attack of 50

Bonuses - Slash +19 Range +29 Strength +31

Red salamander

Requirements - Magic, Range and Attack of 60 Slash

Bonuses - +37 Range +47 Strength +49

Black salamander

Requirements - Magic, Range and Attack of 70

Bonuses - Slash +59 Range +69 Strength +71

5. Imp can be used to send two items to the bank

6. Spotted cape reduces player's weight and the Spottier cape greatly reduces player's weight

7. Gloves of silence, made by the fancy-dress store owner in Varrock - if you have two lots of black kebbit fur and 600gp - greatly increase the chance of success when pickpocketing.

---------

So there you have it, 7 decent advantages from hunting. There's several more which I'll add in later, for now, it's back to HUNTING!

Enticing...I should get started. Assuming the skill has no ridiculous quest/skill requirements for you to get a good start on it...

Metal fans, check out my band!

Ooh! didn't know it had so many advantages. Great!

Definitely could do with some updates in the higher level hunting area (the highest practical application is obtained at 71 hunter). However what we have now is definitely far from the worst. We were not only given a weapon that does all 3 types of attacks (only the staff have 2 types of attack, all others have only 1 type. by type i mean melee, range and mage), and it looks rather powerful. Now there is an even better use of harralander herbs from the kingdom awards. All we need to see now is the speed of the weapon. If it is at least as fast as a Long Sword, i can see this being used in wildy,

 This is getting interesting. Keep them coming.

Salamanders don't seem that great...

There doesn't really seem much point in doing it really, the only benefit for me to increase this skill is for the harpoon as I am a shark fisher.

Oh well you can't please everyone. :P

No longer playing Runescape, I caught the WoW bug.

definitely wont stop to do anything but hunting till i get that cape! (the 66 one, not 99 one :P)

I'm excited about this skill, but I'd just like to point out:

1. Unique diverse skill. For skillers, this is a dream, as there is many things to do in the skill. I am already hooked :P

It's new. Time will tell whether or not this effect will wear off. After my first Treasure Trail I said I was "hooked". Now I just think they're kinda tedious. As such, it's too early to tell with this new skill. The fact that folks have 50K xp after a few hours is a good sign, though, that it won't be entirely tedious.

2. The barbtail harpoon is a reward from deadfall hunting, once you have trapped and killed a barbtailed kebbit. The harpoon itself is a much more efficient version of the normal harpoon, as it can be equipped, freeing up one extra space in your inventory.

This could have been given to us through a quest. Just like we got brutal arrows from the ogres, we could have gotten this "brutal harpoon" from them. Plus, it's not a huge advantage, I'd argue. It's nice and all, but unless it actually gives you some kind of fishing bonus, color me non-plussed.

3. Those who enjoy Hunter as much as their Crafting will be able to attach [bleep]es to their leather and dragon vambraces. With a Crafting skill of 32, you can graft the [bleep]es from a wild kebbit onto these vambraces to add a +2 boost to your Strength stat.

Measley bonus, and how often does a ranger need a strength boost? I don't see much value here.

4. Range Weapons:

Chinchompa... Red chinchompa

My guess is, other than the novelty factor, these weapons will not take off. Barring some huge damage it causes, or incredible advantage when used against metal (melee) armor, the rate of fire on these puppies will likely make them far inferior to current ranging equipment (mage bows + any arrow).

Plus:

The chinchompas have three different attack styles: short, medium and long. These determine the length of fuse, so a 'long fuse' attack style will have more chance of success at long distances, and so forth. This makes using the chinchompa quite a tactical choice; with a user having to shift attack styles according to their approach.

Sounds just complicated enough to render it useless.

Swamp lizard... Black salamander

These have potential, although I need to seem them in use. Bonuses are rather tame, and I'm guessing that it'll be complicated to use (like the chinchompas). Plus, herbs are already expensive, and this will drive the price up even more. Will it be cost effective to maintain? Plus, you need to wield tar and salamander. No shield.

5. Imp can be used to send two items to the bank

Interesting idea, but my guess is that the cost of the box, as well as the time it takes to catch an imp, will make these less-than-popular. Imp Boxers may be able to make a lot of money selling these to PKers. Has potential.

6. Spotted cape reduces player's weight and the Spottier cape greatly reduces player's weight

Sounds great. Runecrafting and agility training just got easier.

7. Gloves of silence, made by the fancy-dress store owner in Varrock - if you have two lots of black kebbit fur and 600gp - greatly increase the chance of success when pickpocketing.

Sounds great. Finally, a chance to help my theiving.

---------

So there you have it, 7 decent advantages from hunting. There's several more which I'll add in later, for now, it's back to HUNTING!

Meh. We'll see. I'm excited about the skill because it's new. I'm not expecting a whole lot, and I'm not blown out of the water at this point either.

And more to follow, highest creature I've seen is available at lvl 69 :D !

Plus I think the whole teenage girl thing will end soon (hopefully), because my girlfriend is absolutely in love with him(she is 18), and im beginning to feel threatened by his [Justin Bieber] dashing looks.

If it is at least as fast as a Long Sword, i can see this being used in wildy,

There doesn't seem to be a magickal attack mode (no magick bonus). Just a way to "train" mage when using it.

If it's cheap and disposable, it's a good thing to have. Anything below Black, though, seems to be of little value in the wilderness.

The more I look at it. The top salamander (the Black) is a ranging weapon that can be used for melee if hard-pressed. But can it replace the DDP++ with it's poison and special?

Plus, you're going to have to switch attack styles, which requires another screen to click while fighting.

At first glance, I think I'd rather have a mage bow and a DDP++ in my back pocket.

But we'll see.

so a whole new skill has been released...

and u can only find 7 good things with it?

Don't get me wrong, i'm not one of those people who love moaning about every thing that jagex releases, and i had a very open mind to what the skill would be like, but come on, this is poor. I stood around next to my bird trap for about 5 minutes, only to recieve 5 feathers adn 38xp, what's up with that?

As far as i can tell the items u get from it aren't ,massively impressive (correct me if i'm wrong wince i haven't seen it all)

So i think jagex should improve the skill and try to build on the current 7 good things about the skill...

How about you actually do the skill properly before you post. You haven't tracked, haven't set traps or caught butterflies, and more importantly, haven't multi hunted. All skills start off slow, as is the same with hunting. I enjoy the diversity of it, and am looking forward to future benefits.

----

I would have really liked to have seen people name 7 decent advantages instantly after the release of skills such as agility, firemaking, theiving and farming. If 7 benefits and the introduction of a neat fun skill isn't good enough for you, then you are quite tough to please.

I'm sorry, what game are you referring to? Because it can't be Runescape.

It takes no time at all to get your first 15-20 levels in pretty much every other skill out there. Again, if you're talking about Runescape. Not sure what game you're on about.

I enjoy the diversity of it, and am looking forward to future benefits.

Future benefits. Because they're really aren't many/any at the moment.

Look, I'm sure Jagex went to a lot of work developing this skill, and they no doubt have more improvements in the pipeline.

I'm looking forward to getting home and getting some XP in it. I'm glad they did it.

But from what I'm reading on this forum and others, well... this skill leaves quite a bit to be desired.

Construction came out and you could do all sorts of stuff with game rooms, skill halls, portal rooms, what have you.

To say nothing of the fun that could be had in the games and combat rooms.

The benefits were there from the get-go.

Construction may have been a cash sink when it came out, but no one was saying stuff like "I like it because it has potential to be something interesting in the future".

But just as bad as the knee-jerk "I hate it" folks are the knee jerk "can't accept valid criticism, Jagex can do no wrong" folks.

If people don't give feedback, Jagex won't know what to work on to make it better.

I like this skill alot too, still gotta get back to my lvl 91 rcing goal however, ill keep training it for a bit and get to a decent lvl

w0ot lvl 4 :D

Kind of off topic, but what do you think the hunter skill cape would look like? (Emote i mean, you can probably find the cape's image on (JAGeX's) KBase.

El Psy Congroo.

5 minutes for 38 exp dude your training hunter all wrong. I was to level 3 in five minutes and level 13 in an hour with Kebbits and weasels. Maybe the feathers are worth the extra time but at this point if I need these colored feathers I'll come back for them. To many bird hunters and not enough birds.

Telroth1.png

I know there are some new ranged weapons, but SURELY vambraces would give a ranged bonus and not a strength bonus. Thats outrageous.

Why dont Jagex just take ranged out of the game because obviously they hate it.

Anyway I got to lvl 5 hunting and got so bored I just went and trained because all the good spots were empty. I can see the benefits though.

Cheese

cheesebap7dz.jpg

I agree with leveling it being fast. Maybe not right now because of all the people there, but it will eventually....

And about the benefits, yes there are 7.... right now. These are just the obvious ones. I'm pretty sure people will find more and more uses for the skill as they have done with the rest of them

MY BEST ITEM IS A BRONSE COIN! I KILLED ZEZIMA AND HE DROPED IT!

I tested the swamp lizard in castle wars earlier, maxed out at 14 on each attack, and it has a pretty decent speed. Currently working for upgrades.

Also, 31 hunting \'

Nice, very smart. Because all kinda of people are like ''hunting is ^%+@#*%'' and ''hunting is useless!!!'' but its not :D
