A little note on polearm weapons...

Has anyone noticed the halberds in RuneScape look NOTHING like actual halberds?

Here is a dragon halberd and a rune halberd...

Here's a real halberd (well, the head anyway)...

I see no similarties. However, what is known as a "Lochaber axe" or "Jeddart axe" looks almost EXACTLY like the halberds in RuneScape, as you can see pictured below. Notice the same blade style, and even the small hook that the dragon version of the halberd has.

So, did Jagex make a little mistake on weapon naming? From now on, I'm calling these "halberds "Lochaber axes"... or "loc axe" for short. =D>

Post what you think. I'm interested to see what some of you other medieval enthusiasts think.

  • Never trust anyone. You are always alone, and betrayal is inevitable.

Top definition of halberd: (n) halberd (a pike fitted with an ax head)

That would fit both on the drawn pic of halberd and d hally if u concider dragon hatchet as an axe.

Personally i don't care that much, but mistakes like this are common for Jagex. Maybe it's a matter of perspective, in UK halberd might be what those are in rs. I mean of course in spoken language.

Whoever appeals to the law against his fellow man is either

a fool or a coward.

Whoever cannot take care of himself without that law

is both.

For a wounded man shall say to his assailant:

"If I live, I will kill you, If I Die, you are forgiven."

Such is the Rule of Honor.

Why's it have to be a mistake..? I'm sure Jagex knows the difference between them, but prefered the name halberd, why does everything that resembles something irl, have to be exactly like that object?

It was the same with lobsters a few months ago, people wanted them to be a more redish colour because that's what they are irl.. Why can't people just accept it's a fantasy game, and realise that just because something isn't exactly the same as it is irl, it doesn't have to be a mistake?

i was about to say the same.

if we keep the OP's logic, we should name the species of fish we eat, and the type of bread we bake....... or we could keep it familiar with the general population

they had a rant in the offical forums on this before, a mod posted something (this was before i knew how to take pics, lol, sorry)

They said something along the lines of, we ment for it to be like they are, then provided an example of a hallberd that looked like the various ones in rs, and convinced the author to stop ranting about it.

ever thought about it being a game?

Jagex can make it anything look like whatever they want as well as call it whatever they want.

They could have named a range a chicken and a chicken a range if they wanted to :)

Runescape is just illogical as a whole.

Reason? It's a game!!

Yes sir Ambassador Spock...

But really. There really isn't that much to complain about. A weapon is a weapon, although a graphic update would add for the realism that the Stab attack of a Halberd is that effective.

I agree with Dork, it's a game in another world.

Why would it be compaired to real life? RuneScape is suppose to be another world with things working differently. I Google searched and found out you're right, but still, RuneScape is suppose to be another world.

I also google searched Hobgoblins and found out they are also different from RuneScape. Of course it happens in another world, that's why they look different.

Just wanted to give similar example.

We play this game to have our fantasies or whatever. Maybe my fantasy is purple lobsters? Does it matter, most of us play this game to relax and escape real life for a while so why make it exactly like real life? No point...

Anyways, nice find...they are some-what different. You must have really looked in on this.
