February 19, 200719 yr To be honest, I can see how this is a true statement. The main reason people train slayer is to get to fight better and better monsters. at a certain point (level 85), there is no need to train anymore for the soul fact that; 1) not everyone wants 99 slayer, and 2) level 85 slayer provides the player with a monster that drops a weapon that is in high demand and that costs 1.7-1.8m each. next monster after 85 is the dark beast, level 90 slayer neeedd to fight. what does it drop? rune armor, some various runes, a few rune weapons, and a possibilty of a dragon medium helmet. notice something? level 182 dark beast drops something worth 400k. the level 124 abysal demon drops something worth 1.7-1.8m. no wonder no one levels after 85, there is no point other than the skill cape. Even if one wanted to get a skill cape, slayer wouldnt be the skill i would want to get it in, considering i only get a few xp per task. yes, there is a definate reason there are few people who level after 85. the reason: whats the use?
February 19, 200719 yr This is exactly why I always go a little bit past my goals. Everyone just seems to stop whenever the sparks fly. And it isn't just with slayer, it's with any skill. Ranked top 15 in the world for In The Groove. Click to watch videos.I'm back! For now.
February 19, 200719 yr Slayer is a very hard skill to train when you compare it to most others, and the time required to just reach 85 can rival a 99 in some of the faster skills. That being said, I also believe Slayer is one of the few new Skills that really had some thought put into it, and incorporates itself very well into the game as a whole. It allows a player to use their Combat stats raising another skill at the same time, which worked out very well. The fact is, however, that most players are simply interested in Abyssal Whips, which explains the insane decline of prices on these items over the years. I remember back when they were first released they cost quite a bit more than a Blue Party Hat. Now you could trade a Blue Party Hat for 300 Whips :P
February 19, 200719 yr its like one of those skills that when you get to a particular level you just want to stick on the thing you acheived. Kiss me, i'm part Irish!
February 19, 200719 yr it's just one of those skills where people only get a certain level rather than 99, like herblore, not many people actually get 99 they stop at 82(?) where they can examine all herbs and make all pots, probably only getting a level from making pots, same with slayer, what is the point of getting past 85? 90=dark beasts the highest but most pointless slayer monsters, they don't even drop anything special, 99 yes is a great achievement but think how long it takes? people just don't want to bother now that they can kill the best slayer monsters. other skills like this include, mining (getting 85 for rune then only leveling after mining rune) smithing (same as mining basically) wait what?!!?! no one stops at 85 smithing, what would u do? smith rune daggers all the time?
February 19, 200719 yr it does seem like that once at 85 people will just get whips for money same with 85 mining for rune ore people will stop doing slayer tasks when they get 85 but with other skills you can get the top level and then keep doing that until 99 like..fletching or wcing
February 19, 200719 yr I obviously did not stop at 85 slayer and I'm not gonna stop training anytime soon. Who knows, jagex might come out with another monster requiring a slayer level above 85 that drops a new wep or armour thats the best in the game (keeping fingers crossed).
February 20, 200719 yr It's the same as hunter, 30 hunter you're ranked 500,000 then 30 levels later you're ranked 10,000
February 20, 200719 yr it was said on page 1 that its like firemaken at level 60 for yews, i would agree but take it down to lvl 50 req for dt, my pure got 4k more xp after lvl 50 and he jumped like 1k rank  EDIT: ok so its a tad bit more than 1k rank here is data i pulled off runehead (from his clan) rank :485,193 LVL : 50 XP: 104,260 now i took my friends fm stat that i know (thats the type of person he is) that he would stop right after that lvl 50 rank: 585,460 LVL: 50 XP: 101,380 funny being its like 3k xp and amost 100k ppl :XD: :XD: guess ppl like dt i don't play psykick anymore... i play 2ed: "pure fett" 26081 to get 99 herblore
February 20, 200719 yr It's the same as hunter, 30 hunter you're ranked 500,000 then 30 levels later you're ranked 10,000' thats a 30 level difference. The point that he's trying to make is even that just finishing your task once you hit 85 will jump you a few hundred ranks. and 86 would probably be above 1000.
February 20, 200719 yr I didn't stop after 85, I kept going till 99 and I got more whips than some Abby Demon Campers. Im proud of my Slayer Cape! Oct 28, 2008: 82nd to reach 2376 total
February 20, 200719 yr a little bit off topic....but i'm not even going to 85...just to 55 for slayer dart, and thats only if i can stand the next 8 lvls...... I can see why people wouldn't want to get past lvl 85. Barrows drops: ahrims staff (2), karils coif, karils xbow, torags plate body, veracs helm.
February 20, 200719 yr Not many of you aware but peoples are (still) racing like maniacs for this goal,20-25k xp per week-day and 40k xp a day in weekends. I know because this was the amount of xp i had to do inorder to maintain my ~8700 position. 20-25k exp per weekday isn't "like a maniac," neither is 40k exp on a weekend day. The guys who hit it like maniacs are doing much more than that Oo Anyway,on friday, after the 85 fireworks i slayered 20 more fire giants to complete my task and logged off.As usuall,i check the highscore and...suddenly i am ranked 7700(!!!), 1k jump after only 2k more xp !!! . [...] Axe Man Jack in his Guide to Becoming a Master Slayer, already referred to the fact that most of the people stop slayering once they reach the 85 goal but i wasnt aware how big this phenomena is. [...] For me slayer has became much more then another skill, it's,as Seinfeld once said (about something completly different),"part of our life style". Quests?mini-games?other skills?those are simply a nice little refreshments, interludes between tasks to keep our sanity. Sure,i am going to slow things down a bit , maybe do only 3-4 tasks a week but that is it. Next stop - 90. Discuss 1. Every skill has a cut-off right after a level. 2. The difference between slaying and every other skill under the sun is that you don't get exp through accessing its rewards. Examples? You need 85 mining to mine rune. However, when you mine rune, you still get exp. When you cut magics, you still get exp. Craft glories or bhides? Still get exp. So the deferential is somewhat larger than slaying, in which you only get exp by taking tasks. And honestly, 85 slaying isn't good money. I wouldn't encourage anybody get it for that.
February 20, 200719 yr Try looking at agility, look at those with lvl 56, then look at those lvl 57 or 58 Dagganoth Kings Drops: Berserker Ring (x1) D Axe (x2) Seercull (x1) Archer Ring (x1) Seers Ring (x1) Mud staff (x1)
February 20, 200719 yr Another reason that some people stop at 85 is becasue the Pie Noobs can kill dark beasts with the wild pie without any further training. I look forward to the day the level 95 req slayer beat comes out and all the Slayer Lovers finally get to see some of their hard work pay off for a bit of time :-D. February 20, 200719 yr I love slayer - it is my favorite stat, and I agree with Axe Man Jack when they come out with that 95 monster all the people that camp at abyssals will be crying when the 500 people that have 95+ slayer are getting rich of the new beasties. So my advice? Train slayer for ALL combat and don't camp at abyssals, It's more fun AND i get an abyssal task about every 2 tasks any :D SLAYER FOR LIFE! 33 Abyssal Whip Drops 8 Dragon Drops
February 20, 200719 yr Well i won't stop at 85 slayer, i find it a very fun and usefull skill to train my combat to the max lvl. I'm 82 slayer now, been that level for months now because i preferred my 82 crafting first. I just train slayer for fun, because that's what this game is all about. My next stop at slayer might as well be 50k off 85. Oh and while typing this I'm ranging some nechryaels. The more i train slayer, the more i love it. I actually feel sorry for the people that trained 85 slayer not because they like it but just for the whips. Some people shoulld realise this is a game and it's ment for having fun. February 20, 200719 yr Author 20-25k exp per weekday isn't "like a maniac," neither is 40k exp on a weekend day. The guys who hit it like maniacs are doing much more than that Oo 20k slayer xp = ~190 Gargoyles = ~190 Nechryaels= ~190 Kurask = ~220 Aberrants = ~ 180 fire giants = ........and on and on No matter what combat lvl u have these are long tasks Now, if i was a kid with the luxury of playing 5-6 hours a day then,ye, that wouldnt consider intensive but for some1 who can afford playing 1.5 hours max a day thats pretty much sums up my daily rs experience. 1. The hidden statement (well, not that hidden :D ) in what i wrote is that i find most of the other skills darn boring (wc,fleching, fishing, dam fishing :wall: ) I am not playing for the money or glory,i play for fun, i realy dont care how profitable it is. And yea,i am still addicted to this tiny second ,between the time u kill the monster till u see the drop :D
February 20, 200719 yr whoa! u got a very good point dude....but the fact is (besides the cape) most skills are indeed pointless to max out. There's no such thing as "wireless." Just really long extension cords.
February 20, 200719 yr everyone who starts slaying seriously usually go for 85 slayer (like me) but some people when they achieve dont get bored of killing abby dems over and over again, every hour of the day and so they just stick at 85 slayer. the problem will come when jagex finally release a lvl 95 slayer monsters all those people who had the brains to train slayer beyound 85 will reap in the rewards. out of all the skill capes i think slayer is the best and i respect anyone who has that skill cape because in turns its awesome :)
February 20, 200719 yr its the same for almost every skill after i got 99 att i got 100k exp and jumped 2k-3k ranks lol :\ atm im 19.4m att exp and am ranked like 1400 or something along there 522 to 99 slayer
February 20, 200719 yr Just like Axe man jack implied, it is really worthless to spend your time killing Abyssals without getting Slayer xp. I use Lunar magics and I get Abyssal Demon tasks 70% of the time. So why not just do Slayer and be at Abyssals at the same time? As for myself, I don't really care about whip drops any longer. I had 16 slayer tasks, with 0 whip loots. I just go there for xp. Whip drop is like a bonus for me. But yeah, Slayer is by far the best skill in RuneScape in my opinion and the hard work to 92+ Slayer WILL be payed off by Jagex, I'm sure of that. ~Retired 10/17/07~"One of the great things about books is sometimes there are some fantastic pictures." - George W.
