Strange Runescape Lingo?

m8 is an abbreviation of the very Australian term "mate", which can be used in reference to your dearest friend, someone you just meet or anywhere in between. It is the equivalent to the American buddy (if that term is still in use). I started using this contraction about a year ago when i started playing... could i be a trendsetter... hmmmm, is destroying the english language something to be proud of?

Mate is a British word.

Australia was a British Colony.

I'm kinda more lenient on people who are outside the US since English is usually their second language (or third or fourth) language. Although I've seen many people in such a situation who type better than people from the US.

Umm, what about that island where proper English actually comes from? England? :? Nobody seems to realise we exist for some reason. <.<

I honestly use this lingo sometimes, but only to shorten wasted time. I only really have a problem with people who use numbers (Makes it harder to read) or use it too much. Never trust a 13375p33k3r. (See how hard it is to read?)

A word of advice. Do your best to prevent yourself from slipping out a 'lol' or 'rofl' in conversation. It doesn't help your reputation.

lol = laugh out loud...

lol means "fun" in dutch, so i was very surprised that everyone on runescape used a dutch word for something funny... :lol:

Same here :lol:

what does imo mean anyways?

In My Opinion

Pretty handy to know, I have used it very often since I discovered the meaning ::'

two acronyms that confused me for the longest time were ftw (for the win) and imho (in my honest opinion). When people said these I used to think they were cussing at me :lol:

I still cant figure out what (h) means. I was told once but the connection between (h) and what it means was so obscure that I can't remember it.

Do you have msn? if so, type in (h) and you'll see what it means :wink:

If not... 50128513mr2.jpg

and I think the 'h' means 'hot' or something? :-k

Nope.

(h) = (H) = A pair of sunglasses.

:^_^: I drew that smilie, btw, along with a few more used by this site.

Classic bloodveld for lyph3! Although I do like the new ones.

So many people don't know what "tbh" means. I try using it online with friends and no one gets it. So I'm not exactly sure where "tbh" came from, if it was RS or not, but it's definitely RS lingo.

I also love how people who don't know what it means use it anyway :roll:

i find all the names of metals a bit odd to some degree

drag = dragon

rune = runite

addy = adamant

mith = mithril

for all of my runescape history ive never seen anyone call rune armour ruite... the ore is runite but not the armour... just rune... some n00bz call it ruen... sounds 2 much like ruin... i sometimez say liek and always use duble-yoo-tee-eff, G2g and otherzs :thumbsup:

I get a bit peeved when people say "bai" instead of bye. Umm... it's still 3 letters, how much time did you save? Unless you're like all the other vowels and you absolutely hate Y...

tip it would pay me $500.00 to keep my clothes ON :( :lol:
But then again, you fail to realize that 101% of the people in this universe hate you. Yes, humankind's hatred against you goes beyond mathematical possibilities.
That tears it. I'm starting an animal rebellion using my mind powers. Those PETA bastards will never see it coming until the porcupines are half way up their asses.

The one i never got was "the wildy". Its not a place that really needs a cutesy name like that, it makes much more sense and takes less typing to call it "the wild". Sounds better.

One time at castlewars someone got hit by the rocks in the tunnels. In he haste to type in 'noob' he accidentally typed in 'Moob'. A new word was born.

The wild is a kids cartoon. :shame: At least people don't call it the "wilder" or "nessy." :lol:

Dh for Dharok has to be one of the worst. Abby whips for abyssal whips is pretty bad as well. Most text messaging lingo such as 'wut' and '4' is pretty pathetic too. I type everything out even on my cellphone and these kids can't type one more character to make 'what.' It's kinda sad if you ask me.

Personally, I'd rather spell everything out so I don't look like an illiterate or a 12 year old. In game and irl :P

I'm 12 and my IQ is 137,with a college reading level. Don't think that all 12 year olds can't spell and don't know English ::'

On topic-And the lingo that really bothers me was "ftw". I heard it while playing Castle Wars about 100 times and finally stuck up the courage to ask what it was. "For the win" is really odd, but I've been using it ever since...

whenever somebody adds (H) onto the end of they're sentence.. i still dont know what the [cabbage] it means!

also, the word "noob" comes to mind, when you think about it, whoever made up the word was probly (i say that IRL, so it dosn't qualify for this thread \' ) having an argument with someone, and then randomly calls them "noob."

what kind of a moron comes up with something like that?!

nudist hippy vegan elves who inexplicably wear leather.
