  1. I should have seen the rants coming... alright, scratching the RAM upgrade or an OS downgrade and tighter security operations, my primary question to stan18 still stands... "Who is stan18's ISP???" :-s ~Mr. Devnull
  2. The reason why there are so many security flaws because people are looking for them. If Microsoft didn't have 90% market share then they would not be exploited. Hackers want to target the most users, which is Windows. If Linux or Mac OS X was #1 then they probably would have the same amount of problems. No, the reason there are so many security flaws in windows is because the programmers at MicroSoft aren't fully checking their code and writing it properly before it goes out the door to the consumer. The hackers (both white-hat and black-hat) and other security companies are just simply running into the security flaws after the fact, but the fault is with the original code programmers at MicroSoft. You're right, though, in saying that these flaws wouldn't be so heavily targeted if Windows wasn't #1 in market share. However, don't go placing the blame for the beginning mistakes that are in Windows in the wrong place. The blame for the beginning mistakes is MicroSoft's alone. ~Mr. D. V. Devnull
  3. <*Checks his FireFox Menus*> "Organize Bookmarks"? Don't you mean "Manage Bookmarks"? :-s ~Mr. Devnull
  4. Nicrune008, this didn't hit me until now, so I'm asking now. Did your PC start acting weird after a Windows Update? :-s (I wonder if you got hit by a MicroSoft-ian mistake...) ~Mr. Devnull
  5. Exactly, and callable through a "quick phrase", which is a short bit of text set up to reference a far larger chunk. :D ~Mr. Devnull
  6. Okay, paste the discussion together... You mean the current mage equipments or in the full mage robes? ...And now to reply............. PrOfEsIoNaL, I4prez is talking about the current mage equipments. Sadly, what I4prez is thinking of is not a good idea at all. It would help the already severely overpowered lower-level mages and mage pures. I hope Komodoman360's idea goes through some time soon so that the higher level Mages in F2P get their proper respect and positional balance in the F2P Combat Triangle. Otherwise, P2P'ers and Jagex alike are not going to have the influx of players that they want, because people will be mentally repelled by the thought that something may be broken in P2P also. (Which sadly, may be possible, but I'm not gonna judge on that one.) ~Mr. Devnull
  7. Only gonna answer to a couple sections. I don't see reason to get into more... I actually know P2P'ers who would quit RS if their F2P-limited friends couldn't be on with them. And BTW, do you know what would really be happening if F2P didn't exist? Jagex would have too few incoming members versus the higher amount of outgoing members, and RS would eventually die. 99% or more of the potential P2P'ers out there don't want to play a totally web-based game they can't properly check out first, and they won't want to play it even more if they feel pressured harshly. Actually, it would be quite the opposite. It would benefit both P2P'ers and F2P'ers greatly to be able to have more bankspace in F2P. Let's go with an example case, the "Ex-P2P'er" who might want to go P2P again, but has to wait a while to save up the IRL $$$ to do so. They'd also like to play, but with the current F2P bank size limits, they'd have to drop a lot of P2P items that they just can't lose for any one of an endless number of reasons. But, with an increased F2P bank space limit, they might be able to continue playing depending on their current bank space load amount. So there's at least one good reason for increased bank space in F2P. Now, here's another example as to why F2P should get more bank space that benefits P2P in the process... Let's say that some P2P'er wants to give an honest non-macroing F2P friend a really big job, and says to them something like: ===========BEGIN EXAMPLE JOB CHAT============ P2P_Person: Hey, could you get me the following? [*:3jbgqw5i] 1K Iron Ore [*:3jbgqw5i] 2K Coal [*:3jbgqw5i] 1K Logs (Normal ones) [*:3jbgqw5i] 15K Feathers [*:3jbgqw5i] 2K Swordfish F2P_Person: I wish I could, but I don't have the bank space... =( ============.END EXAMPLE JOB CHAT.============ At the moment, any F2P'er who really uses all their skills (yes, such as me) can't handle that tall order because we're at our bank space limits, which is why I ended that example job chat that way. This also means that the P2P'er who wants the items has 2 options: [*:3jbgqw5i]Get Jagex to give F2P more bank space so their friend can handle the job. [*:3jbgqw5i]Find someone else, and end up paying more gp in the process. Personally, I could be certain that both the P2P'er, and the friend F2P'er, would both rather for more F2P bank space in this situation for F2P and P2P alike. P2P'ers can count on F2P'er friends, but they can't count on strangers (doesn't matter if the stranger is F2P or P2P), so there is yet another reason for F2P to get more bank space. So, chris1216, like to hop on board and support, now that I have shown that more F2P bank space can benefit P2P??? :) ... BTW, you're one of the first I've seen in a while that didn't give me a headache to reply to. Thank you, a lot. ~Mr. Devnull
  8. So no Mage Staff or Ranger Bow for rewards, and the Scourge Ammy is like a Defense Ammy, but with a Prayer Boost and that is all? You need to make the Scourge Ammy more balanced like a Power Ammy (as in, add some matching attack boosts!), and provide rewards for Mages and Rangers, as well as have those added weapons used in the quest somehow. Otherwise Mages and Rangers will continue to complain and fail to support this. I like to mage and range, so that's at least one reason to why I still don't support. Added reasons are noted above. ~Mr. Devnull
  9. Or just add a "[Plz Lock]" on the end. ~Mr. Devnull
  10. Not if you made the questions before you got the keylogger, and you do proper practices to keep your account secure. :P ~Mr. Devnull
  11. Not that I know of. They're just meant to make you look really good while you're doing something. However, they do provide the defense levels of the non-(g)/non-(t) counterparts. ~Mr. Devnull
  12. No offence. If you know the point that PTP quest are in PTP areas only then why did you still say it? You want to let everyone know that your stupid and foolish or what? PrOfEsIoNaL, can we please avoid the insults, even if they're not intentional? ~Mr. Devnull
  13. Yeah, would be very handy for faster slayer tasks. My gargoyle tasks annoy me 'cause I have to right click.. -.- So this is good for everyone. Yes, it is. :) However, Jagex could just restore the old command-to-attack system, which would have the same effect. I've had too many problems with the Ankous of the S.O.S. lately because Jagex changed the attack system from what it was. :? ~Mr. Devnull
  14. Won't need more than your current one does, anyway. :) ... Glad to have you on-board. ~Mr. Devnull
  15. I like I4prez's expansion idea. Sure would beat the hell out of the macroers... LOL  ~Mr. Devnull
  16. 1 month, and not enough people have caught on?!?!? Someone, anyone, PLEASE get Albosky (or another Admin who can do it) to put up a Global Announcement for it? :| ~Mr. Devnull
  17. stan18, I've got to ask at this point... WHO IS YOUR ISP??? ... I wonder if they're causing you lag with RuneScape. :-k Also, now that I'm noticing it, you're on XP SP2 with an HP and only 1 GB of RAM? Hmm... :-k ... We may have been barking up the wrong tree, so-to-speak. See if you can get a RAM upgrade to 2GB. If that doesn't help, then see about reloading with only XP SP1. There could be a serious driver conflict going on between XP SP2 and the drivers needed for the HP system itself. :( BTW, Clare, I know you're gonna rant at me for suggesting XP SP1. Please don't. I'm just trying to cover all the bases, and I've heard XP SP2 can cause serious problems sometimes. ~Mr. Devnull
  18. Okay, several people to reply to here... Well if you didn't have an anti-virus or anti-spyware running and you got a virus, then it's not the firewall's fault, plain and simple, don't argue back (because I know you will). blade995, it would have broken through the antivirus without a good firewall in place. MS's darned "RPC Locator" Service wasn't designed properly, and lets a lot of stuff right around system defenses. Worse, we didn't know it was already active. Anywho, at the time, I was trying to let the other person that was there try to do it without any major changes to the system. How little they knew the system wouldn't last without putting in a few extra things. I almost got decked for trying to suggest that further defenses needed to be up first. (In part because I wasn't very good at verbal arguments back then.) Thankfully, we shut off the "RPC Locator" Service and got the extra defenses in after that experience. -.- Honestly, though, I wish MS wouldn't design crappy OS software that needs updates and patches to survive. ... It gives me a [bleep]-ing headache. -.- Uh, yes. BitDefender is ranked worse overall, and displays such also. Norton, on the other hand, does the job rather well, and is second only in overall protection and power to NOD32 itself. Reality Check: NOD32 is an antivirus, Not a FireWall. (Ugh, I just realized the 'Star Trek pun'. #-o ...) Did you mean to recommend ZoneAlarm for the FireWall? :-s ~Mr. Devnull
  19. They will want to save their bookmark file, however, that I am sure of. :P ~Mr. Devnull
  20. You don't know that the snooping is usually automated? ... I've heard the RIAA and MPAA actually provide programs to go snooping around, and they'll wipe out anything containing certain words or phrases, both in the file, as well as in the file name. These programs also wipe out files based on data characteristics too. And then to finish it all off, they send home copies of so-called "proof that someone is breaking the law" back to their makers. :( In short, consumer gets [bleep]-ed, and RIAA/MPAA get to be a bunch richer because you're left unable to defend yourself. Heck, Sony's rootkit was one way they did this. :( I'm going to ask, however, that we don't side-track out this alleyway. It would go too far off-topic. ~Mr. Devnull
  21. <*Laughs*> Format? You're crazy. We want to avoid rebuilding from scratch and potentially losing personal documents here. LOL! ~Mr. Devnull
  22. I'm no expert, but I don't even see an AntiVirus Program running, unless it is one built into ZoneAlarm, as per something like that "avsys" entry. :-s (Looks like I may be able to learn a little here?) I wonder, though, if stan18's system has been hit by something that ZA's built-in AV can't pick up due to some kind of 'rootkit-variety ability' in the virus itself. All I can recommend is to download Eset's NOD32 from http://www.eset.com (Trial version provides updates for 30 days, paid license required after to continue updating, actual antivirus services don't shut down after 30 days) and disable ZA's antivirus and mailsafe temporarily as they will interfere, and give NOD32 a chance to sniff out the problem, and if there is anything really nasty then NOD32 will stop it. BTW, I am recommending this one because I use it myself, and it provides better protection than either Norton or McAfee or any other that I know of or have used, even at install time. (Just an example, NOD32 caught 200 viruses still in existence in someone-else-I-know's spam quarantine that Norton never stopped. Also, NOD32 has stopped totally new viruses while I've been surfing the web.) stan18, good luck on getting your computer repaired. ~Mr. Devnull
  23. BitDefender AntiVirus??? Not good enough. You're gonna need Norton or Eset's NOD32 minimum. I recommend NOD32 out of the two, as it has the best protection, the least system weight, and it will cost less overall than either Norton or BitDefender, and has far better protection. (NOD32 has saved all the computers in this house from fully new viruses, and does not foul with system settings, so I stand by it 150%. Norton, however, will turn on the Windows "Automatic Updates" Service, even if you want it off, which can cause severe data loss in some situations.) Windows FireWall??? <*chokes and gags from the insanity in your thinking this will protect you*> Windows' internal FireWall can be blown through by most viruses and worms. (I still remember the time someone else and I tried to update a freshly installed windows load on Dial-Up without ZA or an antivirus, and had MicroSoft's FireWall running at maximum tightened settings. Ended up formatting and re-installing from scratch due to the Blaster Worm, then listening to a MicroSoft Support Dummy reading a script and thinking we're pirates when we are not. BTW, I wasn't very smart back then.) You need ZoneAlarm minimum. Get the Free Edition, if you can't pay for Pro. AVG anti-spyware??? Not a great idea. It may collide with BitDefender, or any other AntiVirus, for that matter. Get SpyBot Search&Destroy and LavaSoft's Ad-Aware 2007. They are your best bets, to be honest, and paired with NOD32, they'll get rid of your problems. Windows Live Messenger and Java? Good programs, enjoy them. (I just wish I could use WLM, but that someone else that I mentioned here has been quite the jerk on me. *sigh* At least there's Java and RuneScape. -.- ...) ~Mr. Devnull
