  1. If you contact the ISP, they might issue a warning of some sort to the person who owns the account. You know, most ISP's would frown upon their subscribers using keyloggers/trojans to steal passwords on computers.
  2. I could, the above is after clearing my storage drive out. If I had the space I'd have probably used it by now. I'm quite lazy that way, I tend to leave things on my hardrive rather than getting up and looking through CD's and DVD's. :)
  3. Sounds like my sorta place... Apart from the 13/14 bit.
  4. Me and my mate have this conversation all the time. When we were younger, we'd never even dream about talking back to an adult or an older teenager. Now you get these little kids running about and swearing at everyone, because they can get away with it. If it wasn't illegal, I'm pretty sure I'd string every last little brat up and stab the ... Anyway. I don't appreciate them. Glad that the little b******s didn't ruin your day though.
  5. Not everyone is technically minded on these boards. More often than not, people just want their PC back to normal so they can play some games and surf the internet. Also, if we were to give technical explanations for every single little thing that can go wrong with a PC, wouldn't that take a bit of time? We're not getting paid to help, so if it can be fixed by doing a System Restore. I say do it.
  6. Had that running on a Dell PowerEdge EL575 (Pentium 75), It took days to complete 1 unit. Not a good idea doing something like that with an old machine.
  7. That's the smartest thing I think I've ever seen you say. If you want a portable get something with a smaller screen. If you want a desktop replacement, carry on and get a laptop with a huge screen, high spec processor and a fast GPU. These Alienware laptops aren't meant to be used as portable laptops, you'd get what? 2 hours of use on the battery max. Where-as if you get a true portable laptop you should be OK to use it for up to 8 hours. If you're looking at a laptop to use outside, pay no attention to the spec. Pay all your attention to the battery life.
  8. You need to get a video card that has TV out of some kind. It is possible and shouldn't cost much, you'll have to shop around though. I'm not sure how much $50 is... :P
  9. Paperweight. Doorstop... Or, the only thing I can think of that's remotely technological, a hardware firewall. http://www.smoothwall.org/
  10. Adaware SE Personal Spybot Search & Destroy 1.4 Update both, on a 56K I reckon it'd still take about an hour to get everything downloaded and updated. It can't be helped. Do a scan with both and remove what they say. Download HijackThis and post your log file, DO NOT REMOVE EVERYTHING IT PICKS UP. Someone on here will help you with what to remove.
  11. Download GSpot from http://www.headbands.com/gspot/download.html Open the video with GSpot, it'll tell you what codecs you need. Post what codecs it says you need and someone should be able to link you. OR Download K-Lite Mega Codec Pack from http://www.free-codecs.com/K_Lite_Mega_ ... wnload.htm
  12. Get someone with a computer to help you, preferably one with a DVD-Writer. If their computer allows you to access the data, it'd be a great idea to shove it all on DVD(s). Format the drive on your PC and use it as normal, but always keep regular backups.
  13. You are being sarcastic right? If you aren't I'll gladly make you the new complete moron of Tech and Computers. If you don't know what you're talking about, don't post. Oh yeah, nice sound card.
  14. Yep, installing memory yourself later couldn't be easier. There are also guides on the internet and in PC magazines that can show you exactly.
  15. Actually Matt, it meets the minimum specifications set by Jagex. I'd say it would play RuneScape. Just not as well as a modern PC/Laptop. About upgrading the processor, it is possible but you'd need to take it to someone who deals in second hand laptops. The processor can't be purchased on its own. More likely, you'd need to take the processor out of another laptop.
  16. It is possible, although highly unlikely. (128 x 2) + 8 = 264MB. Take 2MB for on-board graphics. Leaves 262MB Ram. On-topic. 1GB is enough for XP on everyday usage, in fact. Even with 2GB of RAM. My computer never uses anymore than 900MB~ when surfing etc... If you're playing new games like Oblivion, I suggest 2GB just to be safe. Plus having 2GB is good for the bragging rights.
  17. If I remember, I'll post a few screenshots of me playing Oblivion with my 1900XTX. Annoying thing is, I still get some stutter when loading up new textures. Everytime I enter a new area I have to do a 360 degree spin to load it all up. :(
  18. Grangemouth, Scotland. Tip.It's getting lax in its old age, huh? I remember a time, when posting that you lived in this galaxy. The topic would be locked and you'd be warned.
  19. +1 Was it only around then? I thought it was older than that. :?
  20. If CCCP doesn't work, try K-Lite Mega Codec Pack. http://www.free-codecs.com/download/K_L ... c_Pack.htm If it still doesn't work, download GSpot and open the video with it. Post a screenshot of what it says and someone should be able to find a specific codec.
  21. http://www.google.co.uk/search?hl=en&q= ... iver&meta= http://www.softwaretipsandtricks.com/fo ... ms-16.html Emachines give no download driver support, this is your motherboard, the Audio is Realtek ALC series. http://www.msi.com.tw/program/suppor...UID=696&kind=1 Set a System Restore Point before installing drivers just in case Hope this helps
  22. How many sticks do you have? Have you tried changing the slots? For example, when I got my RAM. I tried to install it into slots 1+2 but that didn't work. I had to put it into slots 3+4 to get it up and running properly. Get your motherboard manual and check the RAM guidelines, it should tell you what different ways you can put it in. If all else fails, try one stick at a time. Unless you have only one stick.
  23. What he said, but instead of the 4x 15k RPM drives in RAID 0 *shudder* I'd go for pure storage. 4 x 750GB Seagates.
