  1. My vote goes to the barbarian rod. It's the fastest way to train fishing in the game, but for some reason it hasn't caught on, and common knowledge still thinks fly fishing is the best way to train.
  2. I disagree. Thieving is at least twice as fast as 99 attack. Thieving is one of the fastest skills to get 99 in, if not the fastest, so it isn't going to give you the best picture of the kind of time to expect out of another skillcape. Anyway, the best way to get a sense of what it takes to get 99 attack is to get 99 attack...duh. The point of thieving is that the cape looks stylish. Black and purple go well with a wide variety of outfits. Oh, and it makes you harder to pickpocket in Stealing Creation, and if you have only 1 skillcape it trims it for you so you get a better prayer boost. You can't really make very good money off of it or anything. Oh, and Kent is right about the useless skills. Sorry, Ray.
  3. Morphic Tools can be transformed as much as you like until they degrade. Volatile tools will lose charge when you transform them manually, reverting down to the percentage they would have been had you used them up until they transformed on their own.

I couldn't agree with you more on this one...it's just not a relevant issue. You can't debate or even quantify "fun." I see this way too much... :wall: 287, by the way. I skimmed over most of the back-and-forth with ydrasil, since I could tell it was just quibbles over the quality of data, but otherwise I read the whole thread...is there another number I should put for that, or just the one? :) It's clear to me that slayer is indeed a pretty useless skill to train in the long-term, since past a certain point there are no gameplay benefits to it. However, it's obviously not useless before then, so if a player with 30 slayer asks for advice on training combat or collecting charms, I would still feel justified in recommending slayer. The main rewards, of course, are broad-tipped bolts, slayer rings, quests, and you could argue for dust devils and the Falador diary too. I also have to agree with Zarfot. Training slayer is undeniably the most efficient way of training slayer, after all, so you can't call it completely useless unless you consider all xp in skills with no practical benefits to gameplay to be useless as well. There is something I don't remember seeing so far. Some people who advocate slayer for training say that you should use slayer to train combat, because eventually you'll want to get 99 slayer and you'll feel bad that your combat skills are maxed already. I disagree; there's nothing stopping you from training melee further when you have 99s already. You'll just get better ranks in the hiscores, which means more prestige. Presumably that's the reason why you're getting the slayer cape anyway, right? Prestige. Hopefully you enjoy the skill as well, but you're not going to derive any less enjoyment because you aren't leveling your combat anymore. Personally, I think I'd enjoy it even more if I could hit 50s and use a steel titan the whole time. And anyway, you'll be training at maximum speed right from the start, instead of only at the end. Sure, it'll take longer than if you got 99 in melee an' stuff from slayer, but if your goal was to get 50m xp in attack, it would actually be faster to get 99 attack first and 99 slayer afterwards, no? If you value slayer xp after 90, why shouldn't you value attack xp after 99?
  5. Then again, if you start getting really lucky 10+ herb harvests, you're losing out on 20k+ profit by picking the less expensive herb. Generally, those two factors balance each other out on average. Right now, snapdragon is the more profitable herb.
  6. That's why it's best not to rush into these skillcapes. The two best ways to get 99 fishing are monkfish and heavy rod. Shilo is strictly less efficient and you shouldn't fish to 99 there unless you really hate the other two for some strange reason. However, monkfish require completion of Swan Song, and heavy rod powerfishing requires 45 agility and 45 strength. As a new member, you will have neither the 100 quest points nor the 45 agility that are recommended for getting 99 fishing. I strongly advise getting one or both of them before you go for 99 fishing. (The agility would probably be faster, if you had to do just one.)
  7. The simple answer is that you get more than one herb per seed, of course. :ugeek: You can expect 6-7 herbs per seed, on average, if you use supercompost and magic secateurs.
  8. Level 35 snakes on Mos Le'Harmless drop snake hides 100%. Kill those. You can use the bank deposit box at Trouble Brewing and bank 'em.
  9. No, you can use any class and get the double xp in whichever.
  10. That's not comparable to heavy rod fishing. Heavy rodding is about 10k exp/hr faster than that. Anyway, I could get better xp than that fly fishing in the Spirits of Elid cave. (Powerdropping, that is.)
  11. The most profitable herbs are toadflax, ranarr, kwuarm, and snapdragon. The four of them change places with the usual price fluctuations of the GE. I made a spreadsheet to keep track of which is best at a given time. Click here to see it.

Magic secateurs and supercompost are the only ways to increase yield for herbs. A worn amulet of nature increases yield of allotment patches too, but it doesn't stack with the magic secateurs, so it doesn't matter anyway.
  13. You only need 32 farming to plant ranarrs, and they tend to be as good for profit as anything else in the skill, so you're pretty close. You could probably push yourself to 32 just with quests. Have you done Fairy Tale Part 1 and Forgettable Tale? Those should do it, I bet.
  14. Just go to the Games Room or the Void Knight Outpost. For the latter, the whole island is random-free, including the bank, so good place to fletch an' stuff too. Small grammar aside: There is a difference between random free and random-free. One means "random & free" and the other means "free of randoms." You had me confused for a minute, thought you were looking for a random place to alch in f2p.
  15. Well imo, Bandos Chestplate is the coolest-looking piece of melee armour in the game, bar none. Plus, it has prolly the best stats. It's just out of your price range, but maybe if you saved up a little more... If you care about looks, then I take back what I said about the granite plate and dragon skirt. Barrows is still okay, but you'll want to make sure you wear a barrows helm with them, because the Helm of Neitiznot doesn't match. You could spring for the full dragon with the chainbody, but the stats are pretty meh and I wouldn't recommend it. I say either save a little more for some Bandos, or use full Verac, or mix-and-match your favorite melee Barrows items.
  16. The 30k is the extra experience it adds, so it really lasts for a total of more like 60k xp.
  17. Eh, you could handle waterfiends I think, so long as you use super sets and good equipment and a bunyip. But failing that, training slayer will produce charms just as a byproduct, and you'll get your slayer up, which is nice. So that's always a good way to go. Dust devils are also a decent choice...not as fast for charms as waterfiends, but they're not bad for melee xp and they have profitable drops, plus you get to use a combat familiar.
  18. Barrows armour, o'course. It's the best armour for melee on your budget. Failing that, granite plate and dragon skirt are okay I guess, just not as good.
  19. Teaks are the fastest method by far, starting at level 35. Willows are a waste of time and you should not chop them once you can cut teaks instead. Eucalyptus trees are good too if you want to get some money out of it, but they're not as fast as teaks.
  20. Mhmm, don't skimp on the supercompost.
  21. You made sure that it wasn't like that in the original .avi file, right? I mean if it works as .avi it should work as .gif too, shouldn't it? ^Ftw
  22. Some locations you've listed for the Wlderness aren't marked on the Wilderness map. Also, the Lava Titan's teleport would be the fastest way to get to the hobgoblin and runite mines in the Wildy...it brings you just outside the entrance to the KBD lair. Anyway, I like it. Pretty informative.
  23. The scariest moment is always right before I know I'm going to die and lose my stuff because I did something stupid. My most frustrating death was in the Brimhaven Dungeon at the red dragons, when I switched to Guthan's to heal on the wild dogs and switched back to the anti-dragon shield too slowly. The worst part was when I got hit with dragonbreath and took massive damage, saw my HP at less than 20, and for a split second realized that I had no teleport and no food and there would be no way to run out fast enough. The second-worst part was running back just in time to see my gravestone collapse in front of me with over 7m in items lost. I took the hit. I had enough to buy back everything except the Guthan's without going bankrupt, and I barely felt that loss--I didn't really need it anyway. Then I learned from my mistake and started bringing elf crystals when I go into dangerous areas--if I had had one, I wouldn't have died. Oh, and I upgraded my grave from 4 minutes to 5 minutes. My second-worst death was the time I was fishing and had the misfortune to disconnect right as I heard "You killed da Sea Troll Queen! You die now!" I clicked to run away and this crazy lag set in, and I was thinking something along the lines of "crapcrapcrapcrapcrapcrapcrap." I was wearing full lumberjack at the time; hadn't bothered to take it off the last time I was woodcutting. I lost the whole set, but luckily I had doubles of everything except the legs, and I could swiftly retrieve them. Actually, that happened twice. The first time I was wearing a ring of life and found myself at Camelot with all my items intact when i logged back in.
  24. See, this is why I don't break the rules. What I would do is not get banned in the first place. ;) But in the spirit of the hypothetical situation, I would be upset (having invested a significant portion of time into the game), put on some angry music (because misery loves company), log onto an alt and tell my clanmates about it, submit an appeal of course, probably remain involved on these forums a little, and then I would either suck it up and start over on my "22over7" alt, or I'd say, "Eh, I did all the stuff I wanted to do already," and quit, potentially trying out a new MMORPG like WoW. I really don't see myself getting banned, though. I don't think I would be likely even to get muted. I'm just not the rule-breaking type.
