It will take me one month as well. I don't play so much either. Now a bit more since it is holidays. I've been doing slayer for a long long time. Ever since it came out. It's not exactly nothing of course, but you will get several spiritual mage tasks when doing 40 slayer tasks anyway. Lots of cannonable stuff if you want to accelerate the experience accumulation. And you can also do it part time. Let it take you 2 months. No shame in that. Is 85 slayer worth it? hmmm Is 83 slayer worth it? There are better ways of making money than spiritual mages. From that perspective 83 slayer isn't 'worth' it either. 83 slayer is rather close to 85 slayer though. Maybe it will be satisfying to do the whole thing.

Half a year ago I had 15 abby tasks without a whip drop in a row. [cabbage] happens.

flashing is not restricted to protection prayers. You can do it with any prayer: piety for instance. Piety drains really fast. Therefore flashing is sometimes a decent option. If you can be bothered.

if you want variation: range slayer. That is what I am doing at the moment. Might not be terribly efficient though.

The DFS has its uses for slayer. I use it for tanking iron dragons for instance. And currently I am using it for a nech task because nechs hit quite hard. Andyway if we are going to be that realistic, for most tasks you don't need torags either. D'skirt and rune platebody would be quite enough in combination with rune defender, d'boots, RFD gloves, fury, and slayer helmet.

Hellhounds and greater demons can be nicely cannoned. Use safe spots. And therefore it could be advisable just to assist the cannon by ranging. Yes, this is valid for single combat areas.

I pot at 107 (99) or when antidragon fire runs out.

if you have 99 def (+127 combat) greater demons can be ranged quite nicely with a bunyip, even in void. (with a little help from picked up tuna/sgs/super defense pots/other methods) At this point it doesn't matter where you are and you don't have to run to hit geaters. So you have an advantage over the meleers. Then greater demons become actually pleasant, even at crowded times.

it's not that hard. It's just very tiresome. So I usually don't bother. When you flash piety people can't even see it, except that you hit 50 with a whip.

Don't do aberrant specters in one go. Collect everything avantoe and above and bank when necessary. You should make at least 200-400k each task with RoW. Also consider using the food method in combination with mage defense with prayer as backup.

Wyverns steel dragons kalphites I believe nowadays all black demons drop crimson charms equally. They changed it not too long ago if I am mistaken. Perfect cannon task. Kalphites are also the perfect cannon task, but I just developed a hatred for them, so I don't bother any more.

I had given up hope on them but now I did 4. 2 worth 400k. 2 crap ones. not so bad.

Black demons are great for experience. Hellhounds can be cannon'ed.

You don't really have to buy d'boots if you don't want to. You will have 83 slayer soon enough and will get them for free. Black demons are great experience. With slightly better stats you could tank them. At the moment you can go through them with a few prayer pots quite easily and not loose money. Use a cannon on black demons and a task only takes a minimal amount of time. I share with you the dislike of kalphites. I have done so many tasks of them, but it usually is just a pain in the [wagon] to find a free world so I blocked them. 99 attack through slayer is pretty fast since most tasks are melee orientated. In fact in hindsight I regretted that I didn't use my whip on controlled. Would have saved me all the trouble of first purchasing an SS, selling it, getting a BGS, selling it, getting a SS, selling it, getting an SGS. (kept that one)

if you are going to bank you don't need many prayer pots. You can even go the cheap cheap way and wear mage defense gear and take cheap food with you with a single prayer pot as a back up. (terrorbird for extra cheap food) You can even take two outfits. black-d'hide or better for mage defense for the first phase of your stay. Then switch out black d'hide bottom and top for proselyte or monks robes. You lose two inventory spots, but you gain some prayer bonus. experiment a bit. Bring a dueling ring/slayer ring combo for easy banking. I used to pray there at a lower level till I started experimenting. I was using trout or salmon as food and noticed I could stay quite long when using a combo of mage defense + food and prayer bonus + prayer pot. The aim is to collect everything above harralander or aventoe. Often that goes fine with one load. Nowadays I don't bother with these methods any more of course. I switched to bunyip + sgs at one point with mage defense outfit. And nowadays I just cannon them.

Things can be inefficient and still rewarding. I did slayer till lvl 80 without guthans. I didn't touch a cannon till lvl 95. Highly inefficient. Yet I felt great satisfaction from doing it my way.

The plan was to get 85 slayer first. That took me a long time. I tried a few other things after that. Nothing really caught on. I went back to slayer and stuck with it. I find it relaxing. And I play this game for this reason. One of the aspects I like about slayer is that you constantly have to develop your ways of slaying. What works fine at a combat level of 80 is silly at 90 or 100 etc. Now I am maxed out melee and rediscovering how to approach different monsters with range. I keep finetuning methods, trying out stuff, try to do tasks economical, do them quick etc. There is a lot of variety to slayer even though I must have had each task dozens of times (currently at task 399, but i started a long time before "smoking kills".) Good gain of experience, and there is a nice steady income. What more do you want?

well, there are no ideal cannon spots, but my favourite is just past the entrance. When you enter the cave proper. Where you can see the lower level for the first time. There are some rocks to the side where you can go behind. I use void range nowadays because I am maxed melee and trying to get 99 range. 2 hell hounds will be killed automatically. For the other 5 you have to pay attention. You might have to step into the battle regularly. No problem since they respawn so slowly. So you kill them cannon-assisted. Some people put it in the middle of the lower level. I hardly ever do that. an alternative is to put it in the bend where upper level changes into lower level. You will be able to reach quite a lot of them there as well. Mind you, there are no perfect spots. Hell hounds tend to back away. It's not the fastest cannonable task, but it sure is faster than any non-cannonable task. You can even cannon black dragons in the chicken lair. A bit uneconomical though. I usually just do baby black dragons nowadays.

Hellhounds are good experience and fast when using a cannon. No need to block them.

I never bought prayer pots in my runescape existence. Slayer sustains my need for prayer pots by means of ranarr drops.

5k is not so much. A single task can eat almost 2k cannonballs. Get 10k at least.
