  1. Honestly miniclippers seem a lot like a scapegoat. Obviously there was some effect from them, but with any medium becoming popular, its original "hardcore" fan base is going to be diluted. You see the same thing with bands (Dave Matthews Band and "Crash Heads" comes to mind). I see idiots everyday on RS. My point is, since they are part of the equation, rather than worrying about it, just focus on the game itself and you'll be fine. After all, there are no less than 500 clan groups out there that bring together those folks who don't ask for "fr33 St00f" all the time. Perhaps I'm mistaken -- I do spend most of my time farming and slaying. I honestly don't find myself in a place like Varrock or Falador for more than 5 mins a day.
  2. Miniclip was out (as a games site) looooong before they decided to host runescape on their site. I used miniclip (and other flash game sites) for 2 years before RS was hosted there. Personally, people who complain about "miniclippers" are wasting their time griping. If something brings more people into the game you enjoy IT IS NOT A BAD THING. Period. IT IS NOT A BAD THING. (breathe, breathe, it's okay!) :) (Honestly, where else would the influx of raw materials come from for all of us higher leveling skillers?) The problem lies within the people who play the game for 6 years, 6 months or even a few days and are complete idiots (in RL and of course, in RS). Get over it and focus on your game. Constantly calling out noobs doesn't improve you as a player; it only may make you feel better about yourself until the next "noob" comes along. (edit) I should add this wasn't directed at anyone in particular. Rather, it was a general comment. Thanks! ~gree
  3. Jagex will introduce new dragon items according to their membership numbers... once they start to slip, you'll see the (very slow) introduction of those coveted plates/kites/full helms. It may not be for 3-4 more years (obviously depends on membership numbers)... which could also mean they'll never be released since Jagex could issue an "RS3" of some sort. Please let's not get started on that. ***Back to Dark Beasts*** Personally, I think dragon boots would be a great addition... but please remember the Recipe for Disaster quest. Perhaps given that it was the 100th quest, they might have lost their mind a bit at Jagex Towers. However, the rewards clearly put "Barrows" gloves as superior to the "Dragon" gloves (quotes in place since they were not named as such). If you follow that logic, then jagex has decided long ago - perhaps even in beginning of 2005 that Barrows items (or equivalent) would be the highest in the game (stat-wise) and harder/superior to dragon items. Obviously in the dynamic world of MMORPG gaming there are no constants, and anything can change depending on the gaming audience's needs/desires. (Remember the power of the almighty DOLLAR/Pound/etc.)
  4. Rather insightful article - I've seen several before on this topic (nytimes had one a few months back). Obviously, trading gp for items of real world value is against the rules. (In RS at least.) I would say, while people want to demonize these outfits as "sweatshops" most of the young Chinese (almost always young men) appreciate any opportunity to make a living... If the worst thing that came from their day was carpal tunnel, it's a bit better than several dozen other afflictions that affect Chinese workers in other true "sweatshops." That said, I hope this guy's house (Star Wars ringer and all) burns to the ground. (While he and his family, pets, etc. are away of course.) Even so, he'll probably be able to buy another within 6 months to a year.
  5. After getting 3 onyx stones from rune selling maul/sword selling, I have to say that overall maul selling is the cheapest -IF- you can find them frequently enough (100k ea). Overall, selling chaos is the fastest way to get a stone (buy runes on f2p or forums - here or official). That said, I'll trade a fury for an onyx stone and 25k permanently. Thanks!
  6. They'll be down within the month - at least by Feb - feel free to try to make a buck, but my money is on making gp from other skills (more consistent than drops at least....) anyways.
  7. It seems like you're grasping at straws - interesting thought though.
  8. If you're ONLY playing runescape for player killing at this point after 6 years, that's hardly getting the most of what this game has to offer.
  9. Favorite quest: Any quest with a decent reward (or new abilities as a result of doing/finishing). Otherwise, they're a waste of time in the long run. A very short list: Best: FairyTale quest II (fairy rings), Swan Song (monkfish), Hero's (bdaxe, charging glories, etc.), also any quest that allows access to clue locations... You get the idea. Worst: (think: rat catchers, darkness of hallowvale - at least atm, and other miserable worthless drivel.)
  10. It kinda looks like the Seinfeld "puffy shirt" only in gray.
  11. I have to say Goblins as well... I think almost everyone here was killed by one their first 3 days of playing RS. Me? It was south of varrock near the wizard circle... If there was a way to wipe out 30 of them at a time, I'd do it just out of spite.
  12. erm - should I bother getting the gloves/boots/hat etc. or not? Sorry to be so abrupt, but so many of these updates seem like useless junk sometimes (gnome cuisine mingame?) nvm - read another post about - got my answer there. (no for me right now.)
  13. Great post - better than most. Here's to a great New Year's! Cheers! :)
  14. At 82 farming (and one who does no less than 3-5 herb plots, etc. a day), I can safely say farming is the most evil of all the RS skills. It is the -only- that is truly connected to Real Life time (as opposed to Rune Scape time). Farming is good for other ends -- namely herblore. (At least it is for me.) If you're looking for an easy lvl 99 skill, obviously farming isn't for you. However, if you're looking for a way to break up the monotony, make a ton off of herblore, and find a use for all those seed drops, then farming is for you. Lastly, if you're over 50 or so farming, I suggest you stop thieving the master farmers in draynor (unless you're looking for the occasional ranarr). Instead, do the lighthouse quest (if you haven't) and kill dagganoths on slayer assignments... herb seeds are a -much- -much- -much- better way to lvl in the 45-65 range than allotments, just my word for it. (I farmed over 3k tomatoes until I got the hint...)
  15. Spending your free time clicking on something over and over.. honorable... *cough. Can everyone please enlighten me as to how having a high skill total means one deserves respect? Seriously, the Runescape player mind is warped. For Christ's sake, we are congratulating a guy for sitting in his basement doing mindless tasks that take no skill, nor mental ability beyond the capacity of a 3 year old, and wasting his life away. I mean, I almost look down on higher skill levels :? . I'm sure some people have realistic drives for these levels other than addiction, but I still fail to see any aspect of having a high level that really deserves respect from others. Please, try and avoid the flames- I know it's tempting; heck, reading through that again I practically want to flame myself. I want an honest, truthful answer to this; my question(s) aren't rhetorical. Why do you respect people who have high levels? Is there anything beyond admiring patience there? Please check my sig... (Values?)
  16. after much cooking in the rogue's den, I've finally surpassed Axe Man Jack in the frog tokens... I have 57, though I'm sure others have more :P
  17. We aren't being racist. Most of the company bots are stationed in China or Taiwan. There are many people in those nations who farm gold in many MMORPGs and sell the money for real life money. They literally make millions of dollars. millions? I doubt millions..I'm sure they can make a decent amount if they spend the time though. http://www.nytimes.com/2005/12/09/techn ... 2e&ei=5090 On further review, that post seems kinda irrelevant, but google the subject. There are hundreds of sites, each with thousands of workers. They make a lot of money. I was just about to post this very same article. :)
  18. lol why u alched u didnt knew it after 1 :P :P First one was an accident - after that I wanted to see how much it was worth (as I didn't trust RuneHQ's item guide).
  19. 150 full sets of blue dhide armor. I bought about 115-120 of them from fally store about a year ago. They lasted in my bank until about 3 weeks ago. (Sold off gradually). Shop price was well below the alch price (especially for bodies) and I figured about 10 mins was well worth the eventual 500k plus profit. (Actually ended up being 1.5 mill profit or so...) Also add a zammy page 1. (Catherby) And a week before, I -just- missed rune boots (Cath as well) -- no cash on me at the time. All in all, I've done rather well from general store offerings... Though high levels may find it a very inefficient way to train (it's not training at all), it can be fun if you tele back and forth between fally and varrock on a variety of f2p and p2p worlds. The occasional diamond in the rough is worth it. Time isn't so much a factor as bankspace... all the various loot (unided/ided herbs, ingreds, ores, seeds, raw materials in general) takes up space and must be used eventually. I think a major reason I've skilled to the point I have is my packrat mentality for a week or so about a year ago -- when I decided to keep all my items I was accumulating, rather than sell for a quick profit... No way easier* to get 150 wines of zammys than from shops... same goes for over 750 other various ingredients/herbs. (* Assuming you're looking for that "diamond in the rough") Sidenote: One time late at night, I sold 6 pairs of ranger boots to the edgeville store - just- after it respawned, for a good laugh. Of course, I bought them back immediately before I had a chance to lose them. <----- Bet you wish you could've grabbed those, huh? (I -KNOW- others have teased fate like this before...anyone?)
  20. worst was a whip for me... I bought another in less than 2 mins since I refused to whine and howl about it. Makes more sense to have fun and get back in the game, ya know?? Also I've alched 2 genie lamps just to see their value (Z-E-R-O gp in case you're wondering).
  21. Cave Horrors drop a decent amount of natures -- I usually get around 100-130 per slayer task.
