  1. I think this is a very fair, very reasonable expectation for a community. However, without hijacking too much, many, many Tip It members are not so simply bound. A very significant minority thirsts for something to complain about, attacking any content created by someone other than them. Perfect example here: I understand if the experimental procedure doesn't appeal to all, but don't BS me and say it's a "poorly written" article. It's not. It's very well written. There are too many people here lusting for someone to attack. If you're such a prodigal writer that you're Hemingway next to our staff, by all means create some content FOR the board and contribute. [/soap box]
  2. It really wasn't that complex, he just made it look complicated. I felt like he thought the reader is stupid with the over explanation of simple stuff. So in successive posts, we have complaints that: 1. It was too complicated. 2. It was simple and condescending. Thank you for proving my point. The community can never be satisfied.
  3. I think the articles were great this week. Also, seeing the scientific paper get criticized makes me feel better about the criticism I receive; if something this good gets trolled, then any criticism should be taken with a grain of salt. Clearly, the community seeks to find fault with anything that isn't written precisely for them as individuals.
  4. It's 100% personal preference. I will say I'm very glad I got mine, I love it and wear it whenever I'm not killing stuff. Great item; really fun. Sounds of woodcutting are so much better now! ::boom boom boom::
  5. Ran through this for your character, based on those charms and 37 (I1lll's level): 150 Greens (Beaver) for 40 1000 Golds (Bull Ant) for 47 200 Greens (Macaw) for 49 1500 Crimsons (Leeches) and 1000 Gold (Terrorbirds) for 66 2657 Gold (Barker Toads) and 400 Blue (Mith Minotaur) and 1800 Green (Fruit bats) for 74 1300 Crimson (Granite Lobs) to 77.
  6. Just be sure to use those clay hammers, no matter what you do!
  7. My bank is set up for people who do all skills, but maybe aren't so combat oriented. Tab 1: Infinity: Cash, all other currencies (cw tickets, tzhaar stuff, barb coins), runes, teleport items, achievement diary gear, "quick grabs" (like hunter net + jars) Tab 2: Crafting: All jewelry, hides, molds, gems, thread, needles, etc., and all runecrafting gear, pouches, essence, tiaras, etc. Also keep bones here. This is a big tab. Tab 3: Quest: All the quest items you get that you don't use but don't want to throw away. Tab 4: Tools: Tinderboxes, pickaxes, wc axes, rope, chisels, hunter gear. This is a small tab. Tab 5: Smithing: All ores, bars, smithing molds (cannonball), cannonballs, cannon pieces, all construction gear, all glass-making gear (overflow from crafting). Tab 6: Summoning: All shards, pouches, charms, and summoning seconds. Also all pets go here. Medium sized tab. Tab 7: Farming/Herb: All seeds, herbs, pots, fruits, vegetables, vials, payments, and farming/herblore gear. Big tab. Tab 8: Treasure trail: All treasure trail equipment, speed/low weight gear, common uri clue items (like rune warhammers, addy square shield, etc.). That works for me. Feel free to steal it. Tab 8: Combat: Everything I used to make breathing creatures stop breathing. HUGE tab.
  8. First and foremost, learn to play Stealing Creation. Smithing tends to be a "loss" skill, so no matter what you smith you're going to lose cash (like construction, but less devastating). The proto-tools from stealing creation double your experience per bar, so you'll lose far less! First, I'd recommend using iron ore and rings of forging to make iron bars, and then make iron knives. They're a great, fun tool to train range with, even if they're less popular than they used to be. As soon as you can do mith bolts, do them. Coal through miscellania, and mith is cheap. Using the blast furnace is awesome here; I find it's actually -faster- than normal smelting when you use the blast furnace world. Finally, switch to addy arrowtips when you can do them. They almost break even, and they're great experience. These will run you until 88 smithing, if you're interested. At 88 smithing, you can earn up to 450k exp/hour doing addy plates in Varrock West bank. You -will- have to spend quite a bit of money, but the smithing cape may be worth it. Have fun!
  9. Max Melees, 99 Slayer, and hopefully 2200 total and 90+ in all skills.
  10. We've heard that we're going to get a prayer update soon; it makes sense to do it now rather than when prices [bleep]e too much higher.
  11. If you ask people to rate your stats, and don't specifiy combat only, then they are going to assess everything. Past that, some people value versatility, and when they rate people, they compare that person to themselves. Additionally, some people are jerks.
  12. It's becuase we've been given reasons for everything right now, most rants are just a lack of research right now. You can have all those "reasons", but reasons to you sound like excuses to me. We haven't had any good content update since the new ownership took over. That's not a good thing, regardless of how optimistic you may be about this staff.
  13. How dare you questions JAGEX!!!! What a difference a year makes. Last year anyone defending them was cast down like outcasts. This year, we're in March, they've been delivering nothing since the new year, and people are more defensive than Chris Brown in prison.
  14. I've seen countless people flocking to worlds because Zezima is playing in them. People screencapture them walking around doing nothing because Zezima is in the screen. There are also countless people with names like "Zezimaheir" and "Zezima828329". No question about it.
  15. BTS > DD > Clan Chat BTS gave us input to look forward to. It was set to a calendar based schedule, and made Jagex accountable for updates. Look back at the first 2 1/2 months of 09. If you retroactively wrote BTS for them, it would be HORRIBLE. This is the downfall of the development diary. Development diaries are exciting, and give longer lead times for better updates, but also don't put Jagex on the clock. They have underperformed in 09 on new content, as the vast majority of what we've seen is simply a lot of promises and very little in the way of new stuff. The clan chat update system is -deplorable-, just a terrible thing on many levels. [*:3s8q2xv6]It's so random and undocumented that you have no way to validate claims.[*:3s8q2xv6]It is -wildy- egotistical. You have to add the mod, and constantly check his chat. He's making himself into the Wizard of Freaking Oz. If you want to know what's going on, you have to be a card-carrying fanboy and follow him around. Awful[*:3s8q2xv6]It is unchecked, and grossly overspammed with tons of users. Horrific to read through. The new regime appears to have spent much more time building their own personal popularity in game than actually developing the game itself.
  16. If you can get Varrock armor 3, battlestaves are a great supplement.
  17. I agree. In fact, my "Times" article centers around skepticism regarding the update rollout system. Predictably, I was met with an unprecedented wall of flame (how dare I question the new CEO that has yet to introduce any new content!). Hell of a thoughtful community we have here, isn't it?
  18. This is the single worst thing about the internet. The complete lack of personal accountability makes forums BRUTAL to visit; people troll and flame because of the afforded anonymity. The result is an incredibly counterproductive environment. People are much more caustic, inconsiderate, and savagely hypercritical because they can never be called out. This is why people are super quick to judge and attack, even though they aren't putting themselves out there. It's an incredibly cowardly practice, but it's so commonplace that it is considered status quo on the internet. And that really makes every forum suck more than it should.
  19. RSOF is really no different from almost any other forum, it is simply bigger and less aesthetically pleasing. There are enough people that go there to ensure you will meet up with a good combination of thoughtful people, reasonable folk, and complete blithering idiots. As a hard and fast rule, the only opinion that is valued by the public is their own. Disagree with them one way or the other, and you WILL be attacked. Therefore, any stance taken on either side of any issue will see fallout; flames come across the bow. For anyone who praises Jagex, you are a sympathizer. If you are too harsh, you are overcritical or whiny. Extremism such as this has ruined the American political system; create a microcosm of this with a much younger demographic and your destined for trouble. As a writer for TipIt, I am tasked with producing an editorial column at least once / month. Editorials, by nature, require an opinion or stance. EVERY SINGLE ARTICLE will be attacked, regardless of argument content or quality. My advice when dealing with the masses like that? Listen to constructive criticism, but ignore those that are only trying to get under your skin. They typically don't bring anything to the table, and they dilute some more cogent points offered by people that take the time to consider alternative perspectives.
  20. Sumona gives lots of good slayer tasks that are rangeable. Blue dragons, cave horrors, etc. are excellent. You also get valuable slayer experience. Give her a try!
  21. For high levels, the best "melee" master is Duradel/Lapalok, and the best master for ranging or mage is Sumona. Their tasks are scripted well to involve lots of tasks for those skills. Chaeldar is a good master for lower levels, but try the different ones. If you get Karamja gloves (3), then Duradel is very easy to get to. For range, you can go with black hides, broad bolts, and rune crossbow. Void is also very good. For melee, absolutely work to get black mask and / or slayer helm. Fantastic. Barrows armor is great value in terms of defense / $. Dragon boots, a trimmed cape, a fury amulet... these are all nice luxuries you can use or replace with the next step down. Experiment on your own and you'll find something that works for you.
  22. This is fantastic! Sweetcorn will be mine soon enough! Can't wait to restock my supply of tuna potatoes!
  23. Some people have touched on it already, and I tend to agree: the current demand would not support making the runecrafting of soul runes worthwhile. Like nats, even if they are easy to make, they'd fetch a very low payout in profit over essence price. If Jagex were to release higher level spells within the normal spellbook that used souls (as one person mentioned), that could drive up demand, but it may also destroy the usefulness of ancients (at least from a one-on-one perspective). My expectation is that it will be released in a normal, non-grandmaster storyline (like the blood altar) with relatively little applause some time in the near future. Based on map spacing, unknown territories (like the archaeology hinted forgotten lands), the Sophanem area, Piscatoris / Gnome lands, or deep wilderness are all plausible locations for the altar. Sadly, I can't imagine it having the impact it would have made 3 years ago, or longer, when ancients were released.
