  1. My F2P main got full + emotes - fortunately it came out just before I made a drive for 43 prayer. You MUST keep the items (banked, to avoid risk of losing them), until you get both emotes, otherwise the the items will just be replaced in the same order you got them. It got significantly harder when the next update came (I was like "oh no!" as the new random is always strongly biased until the next update). I did all of mine on chicken and dark wizard bones, you don't need to be using big. The other negative for those who WANT skill based randoms, is that the general randoms now make a lot more appearances, where before, you generally got skill randoms only. Not sure if it alters the balance if you collect almost a full load and the bury them fast, or bury 1 by 1 as you get - I've had a random on burying just one bone.
  2. The event, they WANT new players (F2P or P2P) to do it to learn about security, so those fresh from tut island will not have much gp or combat. Of course, if FAILING a security question puts you among tougher monsters, maybe mid-levels will fail deliberately. As for a F2P money drain, there's one already - buying stuff from members, though that's more a transference than a drain.
  3. People macro for two reasons: 1. For RL profit by trading - such behavious gave us the pure ESS pain. 2. Because levelling most skills up to a worthwhile level is actually boring as hell, and a potential source of RSI. Not macroed (yet), but thought about creating something in "autohotkey" to provide a 1-click drop or drop all, or a faster way to wet clay. AFK macroing is completely wrong though.
  4. Leather, the cheap way... You need to have completed "Prince Ali Rescue" so you can pass through the gate for free - actually, you can do it without, but its 10 gp each way and a slightly longer dialog at the gate. Take a tinderbox and axe, plus your combat necessities, melee, mage or ranged kit. Kill cows in the field north of the gate (Lumbridge side) take cowhides, including any left behind by others, cook some meat if you need to recover, bury the bones if you train prayer. Quite a good XP workout in several areas! Go back to the tanner and craft store in Al-Kharid, craft them and sell at general store there, or try taking back to lumby. Normally, you would make your highest item, but if that is overstocked at the store, making a different item may help to cover the cost of tanning - alternatively bank the items and then leak them slowly at other stores (visits to the karamja fishing area are usually good for some junk disposal, as the store there is never busy). Mind you, clay bowls are better XP than most leather items, but possibly more tedious. Wetting the clay 1 by 1 is the worst. walk the route between the dwarven mine (clay is south from the hill entrance), Monastery (fountains are the closest water source), and barbarian village pottery. Drop bowls as you walk back.
  5. One thing before the train breaks up.... What happens if the head follows the tail: 1. in the clear 2. if already wrapped around a building Does it become a self-propelled reel? - like a pair follow is a waltz
  6. At 33 RC, triple minds and quadruple airs - Unless you need to take your target down faster, I'd go with fire strikes (w/ fire staff), or earth strike if you want to use half the airs, but slower and less XP per mind. Mind you, if you take the earth staff for earth strikes, just add water and body, and introduce your target with a curse (but not in busy non-multi areas, as a curse does not capture the target). If appropriate, carrying a few of something better may be an idea.
  7. For range at 1 defence, you would use a leather body, and your best dragonhide chaps and vambraces - defence is not required for those, only for the body. For mage, ghostly robes are probably part of the best 1 defence kit, but it would seem you have to do a couple of prayer-XP quests to qualify. If you wanted to go for mystic robes (extra power at considerable price), then you would need 20 defence
  8. A flash in the pan, I'd guess. Sure, the level chasers with money to burn have piled in, and among other things, inflated the value of oak logs, previouly one of the least desirable logs (inferior to normal or willow for fletching). Now maybe some sold rares to get the money for construction, but the rare collectors are unlikely to sell lower than they bought, as a long term fall is unlikely. More likely a stall until normality returns. Unless those who have already reached 99 construction want to keep chasing the XP battle, they can retire from the race, as can those who have reached whatever level serves their purpose (such as the armour stand for making banners) - the fact is, that there is very little reward, other than bragging rights, for construction level.
  9. Definitely, just cut the 1k Willows yourself... If Draynor is too busy, try Edgeville - and if the one on thewest of the river is too busy, cross to the other side - bit slow, but saves it being a washout. 1k = 36 trips (wielded axe, full load), or more if you like to take food & effective weapon to attack a tree spirit - full or Monastery +2 prayer is a must, use protect from melee - best with full prayer kit of robes and symbol. Alternatively, run 12 loads of ess at 2.5k a time on the world 16 air run - 15 runs if you can only find 2k crafters. You only need 25 ess to start, as you get noted and cash in exchange
  10. On stopwatch timing, I found the Edgeville route to be faster. You can occasionally be challenged, but with a maximum of level 4 wilderness on the route, it's a very narrow band of levels that can attack. Given the relative length of either route, Making a strong push to level 14 (double) or level 28 (triple) is well worth it. Point to watch, if you train and do easy combat using Staff, airs and minds is: 1. Airs double at 11, minds at 14 So from a level or 2 below 11, do minds not airs, or any earth or water you need. From 11 to 14, fill up with double airs, then from 14, fill up with double minds. From 14, you can also do fires. 2. Airs treble at 22, minds at 28 Another breakpoint, also from 20, you can do Bodies, probably the fastest unassisted F2P RC XP, but unless you go large on curse training, not runes you need or sell much. 3. Airs quadruple at 33, minds at 44. Aparts from stocking up on treble minds until you quadruple airs, this is getting to the end of the progress map for a "because you need them" F2P runecrafter, as you are now getting runes fast and levels extremely slowly.
  11. While dragonhide vambraces are the best "gloves" for an F2P melee fighter, there may be some other alternatives in P2P. On the other hand, Dragonhide/leather is an excellent anti-mage outfit. As for hitpoint levels, more HP = more life, but of course the penalty is an increase in combat level that could otherwise come from attacking skills. Of course, even if you could, no-HP training your main combat style would be useless... you could hit mightily for your level, but go down to the first decent counter. Justifying extra hitpoints though ... they contribute to combat level at the same rate as defence, so the question for a melee pure... 4 extra hitpoints, or steel instead of iron? (4 extra defence)
  12. It was working for me after I first heard of it (F2P). Maybe you do need to have completed Pirate's treasure (I had) as that involves smuggling on that route. Have to go back and see if it still works.
  13. Take advantage of the current oak market for construction - not sure if 100 gp is still possible though. If you are preparing to fletch in members, get a good supply of feathers in, and either get logs (normal logs from ordinary, dead or evergreen trees), or prepare to stand and cut arrow shafts (stakable) while among the trees, then make untipped arrows using the feathers. Then bank them until you can tip them as required, though if you find a buyer for bronze, make bronze... NB. if you intend making bronze arrows for training, then lay in a good supply of bronze bars to smith arrowheads from. Probably best to start by fletching bronze or untipped arrows, than junk bows. Might also be worth laying in a supply of oaks, so you can jump to oak bows, leaving the remainder of the untipped arrows to finish at higher level.
  14. The only free (collect or make without paying) materials are: Planks (spawns) + nails. Clay (mine and wet at Rimmington, no need to go as far as the guild). Iron bars Steel bars Limestone blocks. The drawbacks: Planks take a long time to collect from far away. Clay is only 10 xp per item, though circling the mine, the well and your house would minimize travel time. Iron is also 10xp per bar (10 bars for another portal) Steel is 20xp per bar - better to sell the bars and do Oak logs with the proceeds.
  15. You fire bolt using an air staff and fire runes? Uses less runes if you have a fire staff (or Lava) and air runes, though I suppose the other way works well if you stack up fire runes using duelling ring teleports to the altar.
  16. There is fast food - Pizza! So why not... Use cooked meat -> bread "You make a beefburger"
  17. Don't train any more defence as the quest will take you to 40+ already With luck, full lobbies should do, though I'd get a strength pot made and take that, and a better shield to use on the approach (be sure to switch to anti-dragon!). From 38 attack though, I'd drive hard for 40 and use a rune weapon, not sure if the fast scimmy or the B-Axe power works bgest (2 hander is right out, of course!). Amulet - craft a defence if you have nothing better, but a strength or power would be more effective. Measure yourself against the Karamja Lessers, since one stage pits you against one after some other opponents. I'd say you need to be able to take at least 3 down on the same load of food before facing the dragon.
  18. Enter the ruins using the talisman. Runecraft your ess at the altar (why waste a trip by running empty?). Now unequip the tiara, so it is in your inventory and not on your head! Use talisman on altar. The usual mistake is to wear the tiara to save space and forget to take it off before trying to enchant/bind.
  19. The top tip for F2P -> P2P -> F2P has to be: Load your bank with every item you want, every ore, every bar, every raw and cooked food, items complete and incomplete, cowhide feathers, all kinds of logs. Any F2P item you have in the bank, you can stack more onto, just don't remove the last one, or you won't be able to restock it. Ensure that when your P2P ends , you are wearing F2P kit with a spare in the bank, with at least two of any item that you will need to talke 1 out and put back. PS. be careful with stackable items like coins, runes, feathers, arrows - a careless "withdraw all" could screw up the arrangement. For bulk items, never run down to your last 28.
  20. I'd seperate them into more categories: 1. Nuisance events - the equipment breakage ones - axe head flying off can be a nightmare if the area is full of ash - so many red dots! 2. Guardians - a tough fight, some have a chance of a worthwhile drop, usually impossible to kill without food (Though I managed a rock golem with prayer - not even protect) 3. Skill givers - Evil bob, genie 4. Gift givers - eg. MoM (item, box, maze) Some are junk - Drunk Dwarf 5. Clothing givers - great if you like a fancy, losable, 0-stat outfit that takes as much bank space as real armour. 6. Pain in the backside - Evil chicken, the one that tries to kill you for nothing in particular. 7. Misusable events: a. Certer - use to note bulk items, after dropping weapon and tools. b. Sandwich lady - use for random tele away from area, last 2 were both south gate of Falador (I was hoping for Varrock) I like the ones with good drops, my favourite is the Wood spirit, with potential for a good axe or some nats.
  21. For free XP (not sure if it's the best XP)... Camp out in the craft guild, take your best pickaxe (wielded if possible), 4 identical water containers (if not, make 4 clay bowls). Mine clay, wet at sink (faster when you have multiple containers, as they all fill - wetting clay is still 1 by 1 though). At both the potters wheel and the kiln, make your highest item (Bowls for F2P, Flowerpots or pot lids for members). Use the "all" option if there is one, or the "x" and any number >= what you have. Drop them (1 by 1) and then repeat. Before leaving, fill up with silver or silver + gold and take the moulds you need.
  22. Do "Between a Rock" for the best gold mine (Arzinian) in the game - if you have an unlocked ring of charos, then the shipping fee for the gold will be less. You mine gold and have it shipped to the bank, losing some of it for payment. Alternatively, mine the 4 gold rocks in Karamja volcano and bank in Tzhaar when full... it's actually not a bad gold mine even in F2P, if you need anything from 4 up to a full load - wouldn't recommend it for F2P training though, as it's too far from civilazation, and not good F2P training.
  23. The peak may be over, but construction has raised oak logs from mere firewood to a worthwhile trade. The tree of log uses are: 1. Logs: Arrow makers occasionally buy them - fairly rare trade, but if you can supply 1k on demand... Air running probably pays a lot better though. 2. Oak logs: To make oak planks... Sold a few hundred at 100 a piece, but better to have 1k - prices are probably heading for a slide. 3. Willow logs: To make medium level bows - though Oaks have been trading higher 4. Yews: For the penultimate level of bows, but if you are cutting them, you are already a woodcutting elite. Feathers are another good low level material, as you can combat train on chickens for as long as you are able, stacking up feathers - the main use in bulk is for making arrows or darts. Maybe if you have feathers and logs (15:1) on world 1 Varrock. Cowhides: collect at Lumbridge, take to Al-Kharid to bank or trade - some traders may be buying tanned leathers instead, but do not tan them unless there are buyers, as you would be committing to hard or soft leather. Thanks to "pure essence" the glory days of essence trading are over, though there can still be some buyers - maybe you end up selling 1k of ess to an air crafter, and then meet them again when running airs. PS. TRAIN FISHING I like to stick to fishing, cooking and discarding shrimp until level 10, since no supplies are needed (carrying axe and tinderbox to chop & cook). Then do bait fishing, to do it free, trade the sardines uncooked at the fish shop, while cooking and saving the herring - not the best food, but certainly good enough for combat training. On reaching level 20, switch to fly fishing trout, save any leftover bait and the bait rod. At 25, use the last of your bait and fish some pike, then either switch back to fly or do pike until 30 if you use them for combat. At level 30, fly fish for trout & salmon, cook all, discard trout - continue until level 40 (lobster) - I don't reccomend Tuna. Besides, for anywhere I can get out of easily, a few salmon or a pack full works wonders. Fishing is not a great money maker at lower levels, but is a great money saver and keeps you battle fit for longer.
  24. I regret discarding forester items when they were common, could have had full. Trouble is, do you use bank space for useful skill items, or to save every bit of 0-stats junk? My main has full zombie + emotes... might dump everything but the mask or mask, gloves and boots, since there is a large variety in ordinary clothing - none of my characters have default. Got mime gloves on another character, amazing how that gets noticed. Though if you don't like questions, do not wear any special items - some odd kit is useful for visibility when trading - eg. the frog mask...
  25. The "official" crafter rates are: 2.5k coins & 25 noted ess (Black robes) 125 airs & 25 noted ess (Blue robes) A lot of other crafters there offer other rates, 2-2.1k often seen, last time I was there, one "offered" 4k but switched. Also taken a deal of 3k / no ess, from a crater out of supplies. Not very exciting, but ludicrously easy gp at any level, just for walking (or running) to & from the bank. Very low lavels may be troubled by the highwayman, but other than that, no hazards. It's best to fill 3 spaces with something else, so you load up with 25 ess and can trade it with an "ALL" instead of wasting time.
