Reminds me of my worst messup there - carrying tele runes, fire striking the lesser. Down to my last few so wasted the last few runes throwing a few strikes before leaving. Picked up & buried ONE bone that was on the floor, and got a Shade (sounds like the "do one thing for some time, then change" trigger for the event). Ran for the exit, and got doorslammed several times - went to tele, and and had no airs ... died! Since then, If I carry tele's and attacks, I make sure I have enough airs that I run out of attacks first.

The skull half from the Minotaurs appears UNDER the bones they drop, not sure if it always did, or if any of the others hide their piece in a pile. Flesh crawlers (in F2P) drop very little, other than a few body runes, so their piece is normally visible.

most useless item in runescape? F2P only
Doomster replied to gtacrackhead's topic in General Discussion
The bar in falador gives a 2gp refund on the empty glasses ... did some WMB-assisted alching there, and then cashed in the empties for a few gp -
Doomster, "most forums" also don't have the kind of traffic we do... and those that DO have that amount of traffic more than likely have a considerably different hardware setup than we do... Easy enough to run a forum for 500 users with no performance problems at all ;) Perhaps have another look at the stats which Alby posted up earlier in the thread for examples on why this comment of yours is kind of redundant :) To rephrase then... Post count is a feature on most forums, and there is very little obvious "postcount spamming", so if there is a problem here, then it is a problem with the users and not the postcount itself. A forum like driverheaven.net probably has more users than here, and uses post counts. Maybe the ranks should be dropped, to avoid the "I want a better rank" issue. On the ones where there is some reward for postcount, rigourous black marking needs to be applied - I recall one where 3 strikes is an automatic 1 month posting ban, and 1 strike may be removed (on good behaviour) per month.

Using runners typically means no profit, since you are crafting your own ESS and paying them to bring it to you, unless you find runners who don't know the best prices. If I can't find 2k or better, I craft my own ess. So on that rate, if you are a crafter paying cash, each run costs you: 2k, plus the price of the ess if you bought that originally, while you keep (use or sell) all the airs made, and gain the XP, while the runner gains cash only.

Most forums seem to manage quite well with post counts. While it's not a perfect measure, on most forums, it helps to identify the typical "drive-by spammer" who makes a post or 2 before getting banned. Reputation systems, be they positive only or +/-, suffer from the twin problems of apathy and manipulation. One thing some other forums have, is a displayed warn/black mark level for users, so others can see if they have been behaving themselves

At least one of the level 12 Minotaur rooms has a fence for cover - but is often too busy compared to the higher level area.

What mosnter to train in the Security Stronghold with Range?
Doomster replied to DegenerateX's topic in Help and Advice
Minotaurs, without doubt, for ranger training. Safe spots a plenty (fences) and arrow drops, what more can a ranger ask? Actually took a level 28 mage in there, much the same effect - even the level 27's near the end (portal there and go backwards), didn't seems to be aggressive, though perhaps they didn't have time to be. The first room of Minotaurs can be rather busy. -
Got the 4 stronghold ones?

It does warn that deeper levels are dangerous. The area seems to work in several different ways: 1. The boot run - like running the Blurite dungeon for knights sword, can be done at low level, and with a lot of luck in avoiding any serious hits. Boots probably are too easy. 2. Ranger training ... don't much care about the price of arrows, but ranging Minotaurs from cover and collecting arrows tends to be free ranged training - may see more F2P rangers. 3. Extracting drops on levels 3 and 4 is a lot slower for low to middle levels, so the drops are unlikely to have a huge impact. 4. The sceptre - a serious challenge for lower levels, but unlikely to trouble a main. The sceptre is rather disappointing though, apart from appearance and limited teleports, it is a low grade crushing weapon and a magic staff with no autocast.

The equation for F2P rangers (and P2P) is different to F2P melee or mage, since a melee fighter only gains better defensive equipment, while a F2P mage has nothing at all with any defence requirement. The ranger gains attack bonuses from better armour... +6 (over plain leather) for the 10 defence hard leather body. +6 for the studded leather body at 20 defence - no attack improvement over hard leather. +13 for dragonhide at 40 defence - if you do not wish to carry more than 40 def, do dragon slayer with 34 (and a bit). In this case, extra defence levels can also increase attack, though my rough calculation suggests that only 10 defence / hardleather actually comes out on top. For dragonhide, ignoring the hitpoint effect: 1. 13 higher ranged attack would be 6.5 extra combat levels 2. 40 defence is 9.75 extra combat levels Since you already have 20 defence, d-hide is +7 over studded 1. 7 more ranged = 3.5 levels 2. 20 more defence = 5 levels On pure attack grounds, the extra bonus does not fully compensate for the extra combat levels, on the other hand, you also resist damage better - a full dragonhide ranger is pretty tough

For the "get a friend to come and collect" idea, if the rune teleport matrix is the same place as the spell teleport one, then just keep zapping to the essence mine and back - cheaper than all those laws. PS. I saw the purple tele-zap in there when I didn't do anything, so I guess that was someone else standing in the same spot getting tele'd out.

This is making my brain hurt! So if you see a ̢̮â¬Å¡Ãâã100, then it is the higher of a ̢̮â¬Å¡Ãâã100 / ̢̮â¬Å¡Ãâã50 pair, or the lower of a ̢̮â¬Å¡Ãâã100 / ̢̮â¬Å¡Ãâã200 So by switching, it seems that there is a 50:50 chance to double or halve it, with an average increase if you gamble on the switch - seems wrong. Ok, lets take all 4 possible outcomes of 2x 50/100 and 2x 100/200 Start & switch 1. Draw 50, take 100 2. Draw 100, take 50 3. Draw 100, take 200 4. Draw 200, take 100 In each case, the result is one 50, rwo 100's and one 200. Now I'm more confused than ever!

Remember, the reward is STRENGTH and DEFENCE, so this is not a quest for pures, other than "rune pures".

The best F2P melee pure outfit (1 defence) is: 1. Iron Full helm 2. Amulet of (defence, strength or power) 3. Iron platebody 4. Iron kiteshield (or 2H sword / no shield) 5. Dragonhide vambraces (40 ranged), otherwise leather gloves 6. Dragonhide chaps (40 ranged), Studded chaps (20 ranged) otherwise Iron platelegs 7. Fancy/Fighting boots from security stronghold, otherwise leather 8. Cape, any colour To go melee against mage, then swap the shield for an anti-dragonfire or wooden, and the other metal pieces for leather or mage kit. Bronze is cheap & useless since Iron has the same wield level.
-
For mage attack, the humble amulet of magic has the same attack, but no defence, while the glory also has the same attack, but less defence than the fury. With two Ahrims pieces, completing the set for the blighted aura effect may be a better idea. If that doesn't appeal, maybe the ancient staff is worth a look, as if you are going all out on mage, ancients is probably the way to go.

If you lag out or X out (anything other than logging out), time continues to run (30 seconds or a minute). So in the time remaining, you poisoned to death

or http://sourceforge.net/projects/krut - both 100% free Or http://www.unixuser.org/~euske/vnc2swf/ - Records to SWF using VNC *** - might not be effective for this though - there are other VNC based recorders, but unless the application would display over VNC, it probably wouldn't work

When I've got fed up suiciding my pures against this, I shall just take my old main in, keep running back to the monastery to prayer recharge, and so on... full rune against the rest, full green against the catablepons. For the ankous, time to lay several crumbles on them before needing to eat. The problem with lower levels, is that with lower hitpoints and low defence, you are eating all the time (unless you can keep snatching the door, eat, return and re-attack) - got nailed a couple of times at the door, carrying enough runes for several trips - must remember to PACK LIGHT!
-
Both styles are the same, equivalent to Bronze boots... With a choice, different functions would have been nice - or no negatives compared to leather. Got them on my pure mage, but will probably dump them - can get 'em back anyway. Mind you, failed curse trainers can add thes to their armour, for an additional -3. The Sceptre is another case, though I'm still treating it as a challenge, though the reward is hardly worth the bother (though cool to walk around with one on a lower level).

Tip.It Times Presents: July Observations
Doomster replied to Kiara_Kat's topic in General Discussion
Omits one big "observation", though perhaps an article could be mafe out of this alone.... THE FANCY BOOTS EPIDEMIC! Wherever you go, whatever you do, everyone's wearing those stripey boots, and those that aren't, are usually asking about them. -
Go and mage the security stronghold, to get the cool staff. It depends, generally, if you are pure mage with no other combat, then do not overuse hitpoint-less training, best to mage attack something with a potential rune drop, or something with a good drop.
-
The Ankous sure are vulnerable to crumble undead - hits often, hits hard. Only problem is that F2P Staff's can't autocast it (only the slayer staff can). So to cover you for when you cannot attend to the spell screen, have your mage staff set to autocast someting else - a strike if you are really cheap, or a bolt with the same chaos runes, then just keep laying a couple of crumbles, back to inventory to eat, then if you don't get back to spell menu in time, the staff will autocast. Knocked down 3 of them with my level 28 pure mage! Now the Catablepons on the 3rd level, they are a real pain! For the mage, they seem highly resistant to magic - spells miss often. For melee, they have incredible weakening powers. Maybe the combat triangle favours the ranger here. While they do go down to level 49, not found if there are 49's that can be reached without too many of the "wrong" monsters. Moving backwards to level 2, the Flesh crawlers seem weak in comparison to the other monsters, the high level zombies hit harder. Limited success with trapping/blocking - I'd suggest if you melee, you take a few spells as well to select and lure a target, even popping one with a wind strike and missing should get its attention. The first level has excellent cover, so going toe to toe is a waste of food.
-
Go to the security stronghold for free range training. Stay on the first level, range the minotaurs from behind fences, pick up iron arrow drops, repeat. Hope Jagex don't change it, but at the moment, your arrow supply (Iron) will normally increase, if you collect your own arrows, your own drops (and any arrow drops ignored by those fighting mage or melee). PS. If you plan on being a full dragonhide ranger, then comes the difficulty - for a dragonhide pure, you need to go into Dragon slayer with defence at 34 (so the bonus takes you to 40, maybe some slight adjustment needed after, as you may be a tiny bit short of 40). Biggest problem, is that not using the anti-dragonfire shield would mean you will be dragon-grilled in no time, so you end up stuck with the crossbow, a very low level ranged weapon.

Seems to be a non-issue really. Sure, the sceptre offers a tele with no mage level, which members have had for ages, but questing, weakening and cursing to the first tele spell is not hard. The Sceptre: PLUSES Only need to carry one item, instead of 3 runes. No mage level required. 5 charges, no cost * MINUSES Takes a long time to collect pieces. * If you buy runes or food to do it, then it will cost more than 5 law runes. Not practical as a weapon, due to relatively poor stats (a poor crushing weapon, and a mage staff with no autocast). Lasts for 5 activations only.
