  1. Better to have ads smoothly integrated into the game, than obnoxiously plastered around it, especially by scum like WILDTANGENT.
  2. One basic decision to start with: Design based or HTML editor based (unless the idea is to actually "learn HTML"). A wysiwyg design approach, using something like Netobjects Fusion 8 (coverdisked full version on many uk computer mags) or http://www.freeserifsoftware.com/softwa ... efault.asp Webplus 6 free (probably offered a discount version 8 as an alternative). With those, you are isolated from the HTML, and the final stage of rendering to HTML produces a lump of code that you have no chance of understanding. http://www.nvu.com/index.php NVU, derived from Netscape Composer, has a two-way code/wysiwyg approach - wysiwyg editing acts directly on the code, mostly in the form of positioned DIVs. Code can also be edited directly. The final approach is "pure HTML", where the only addition to code editing is wizards that can format elements such as tables.
  3. At least in F2P, only bought from other players (typically world 1 varrock west bank area). Rune full helm is a possible (but rare) drop from Greater Demons, and the only place to meet greaters in F2P is a PK hotspot in the wilderness ... do you feel lucky? If you PK'ed a full runer, unskulled and without protect item, you'd probably get the helm, weapon and amulet.
  4. With a few days left in members, and planning on mage, I'd say try to get hold of a talisman for any better runes you can make, mine pure ess and make a ton of them - a huge stack of chaos would be a good thing to take back to F2P. PS. Don't forget to stack your bank, double up on everything so you have placeholders when you take one out, and fill other spaces with placeholders for bulk items, all the logs, ores, bars, items that you willuse or make.
  5. You will get to 40 attack / 61 str a lot faster than 99 anything. The problem with not increasing attack, is that you lose a lot of weapon attack bonus and a lot of weapon strength bonus. I'd expect that 40 arrack, 1 strength, rune wep (any kind) would actually hit more damage per second than 1 attack, 40 str, iron weapon. So long as you can upgrade your weapon, the attack AND strength bonus is hard to beat - hence most melee pures are are 40 attack (F2P) or 60 for dragon (member).
  6. If you're getting 40 range, use d-hide vambraces (useful even with rune armour) and switch the iron legs to d-hide chaps. Calculation for Iron: Defense +47 +51 +42 -12 +45 (no D-hide, normal gloves) Defense +61 +58 +58 +2 +57 (+ green vambs/chaps) And for steel: Defense +72 +76 +66 -12 +70 (no D-hide, normal gloves) Defense +80 +77 +77 +2 +76 (+ green vambs/chaps) * +4 to all for 5 defence instead of 1 Usual ordering - Stab Slash Crush Magic Ranged NB. Stronghold boots, normal cape included. Is steel defence worth an extra combat level - tough choice, I've usually considered it to be "either/or" - take extra HP (and combat level) by being melee/ranged, and use Iron + green, or take a defence based combat level & use steel. Goiing pure against pure, where attack and hit counts, a little more defence might not save a single hit before the fight is over. A steelclad is a bit more robust in general combat, and self smithed steel is the ultimate "value" armour. To stick to the purest pure though, stay with Iron + green - and yes, raise magic, as it also improves resistance to magic, though compromising to chain/med/antidragon ot leather + antidragon aids magic defence.

http://www.planeshift.it/ Sorry, but it IS a download ... open source software - it is (currently) free though, and being open source , presumably not loaded with the rootkit-style security software that some of the others are. PS. not tried it yet, next time I feel like a big download, I will.
  9. You get strength and defence (however you attack), so if you want to minimize your total level, you go in with Addy armour (+dragonfire) at 34 defence. So the real question is then, can you do it with 40 attack, rune weapon, addy armour, as many HP as you get by then. On members (since you say recoils), you can also add the recoil ring, and if you want to spend heavily, the attack/defence power of a fury, and if your HP is unough to use without being dangerously low, sharks. You could also cheat, and have a friend (not completed quest) go in and half kill Elvarg, then tele out.
  10. If it's a genuine CD, then you could try appealing to the mercy of Microsoft. If it's a non-genuine CD, then you might get a reward for reporting the trader. The key does not exist on the CD - not on a standard retail / OEM at least. And if the HD crash is unrecoverable, it can't be retrieved from there.
  11. The golden rule: If you are carrying an addy axe and don't want to sell, there will always be someone asking for it. Since the b-axe shop is often out of stock, buyers can sometimes be found there.
  12. Not so much SELLING airs, as making anything else (or banking a large stack of minds) until you get 4x instead of 3x on the airs. Then take your staff (fire or earth), stand behind a fence in stronghold level 1 and let rip on the minotaurs. The noted ess is a "collect always" for runecrafters, while the iron arrows also stack, as do any coins. Unless you NEED faster kills, I wouldn't bother with trading for higher runes - if it can't hit you, then strikes will wear it down. You LOSE potential XP if you trade for higher, since the runes for 10 earth strikes will probably only buy you a single bolt spell (chaos rune).
  13. It's 1/4 of a CB level, either live with it, convert to a "steel pure" and go for 5 defence, or start over. And if you stat over, NEVER use the 3rd setting of a 4 option weapon, as it converts to defensive if you switch to a staff and longrange ( = defensive) on a bow.
  14. How would you prove / collect on a bounty kill?
  15. Don't know about specials, but the main problem in comparing a B-axe with a scimmy: The B-axe, on the stats you can see, has a better slash attack and a usable crush attack, BUT, is slower than a Scimmy by a considerable margin. So while damage per hit and %hit should be better, the scimmy attacks more often.
  16. Unless there's a similar situation to RSC / RS2, with a wind-down in favour of something else, I can't see it ending, as there would be no point pulling the plug on something that still paid. RSC is not dead, YET, though at 2 servers, it's being allowed to wither naturally. If Jagex got into difficulties, they'd sell it, or be bought out. I could see "open ended F2P" being discontinued, but that would have an impact on the P2P economy unless they had done a "pure ESS" thing on every possible commodity - even then the smaller community would mean that skills would be much harder to profit from.
  17. I guess a lot of players consider merchanting to be a source of ill-gotten gains, especially if they buy lower than is reasonable, taking advantage of players who don't know the value, or buying out store stock and selling higher. The opposite side, is that if you do have an item to sell, you'd better find a price guide and do not rely on general store price check, as the player value of items which do not have a ready supply is normally considerably higher - unless you're happy to take any offer, for something you don't want to waste bank space on.
  18. Iron wield level (1 attack), strength bonus of an Iron long and the attack bonus of a steel. For a defence pure, the silverlight is slightly more powerful, but the Blurite is a nice display sword, wear it with your "best dressed" outfit.
  19. For a mage in F2P, I'd say that self crafted airs & minds are the best combat training, while curses are also good. Assuming you have levelled to 14 RC (2x on both), then two loads of ess, 1 trip to each altar, makes 56/54 casts of earth strike. Buying runes is all very well, but unless you already have a large slush fund, that means another skill to generate cash. Ah! 29 RC, that means triple minds, triple airs (quadruple at 33). Now when I hit that level, I did 1k of ess to minds (and a few loads of bodies) until airs quadruple at 33 - I'd recommend a push like that, as then you have a large stock of minds and buils airs up at 4:1 ess instead of 3:1. I also tend to carry a fire staff at all times, despite it being 2 airs instead of 1, since I only go higher than fire strike against targets with any serious retaliation, fire strike is my KILLING spell as well as training, at least on anything trapped or weedy.
  20. Monsters - anything trappable. Strike or curse? - depends if you want lower HP/combat or a longer lifeline - also, curse does nor win you any drops, while strikes can take down anything that can't retaliate. Earth strikes use less airs (and work better as a curse & kill combo, + waters and bodies and the Earth staff), while fire strikes are the highest power spell from F2P crafted runes. The minotaurs in the stronghold are cannon fodder for a ranger or mage in cover - collect and sell the arrow drops.
  21. Some forums also have a time limit on editing, to prevent (mainly) users altering posts that are already replied to.. Best way to stop "double submit" double posts, is to have a minimum time limit between posts.
  22. Unless a pure mage, do the ankous with a melee/mage double act. They miss pretty often against rune or better armour, so hold them off/ kill on melee until they are non-aggressive, then take cover and let rip with the crumbles - great if you want to collect a sceptre piece.
  23. Members? - glory works up to level 30 (but the dialog can be interrupted, unlikely to be able to glory out of a multi-combat pasting). F2P? - maybe south of you, and across the break line.
  24. Got tired of sending my two pures, and so sent my main in, full rune armor with D-hide vambs. Minotaurs: Easy - barely touched me, and 10-20 of them revealed the skull piece and only about 18 arrows, plus an ess note and some coins collected. Flesh crawlers: Did the level 28's in the corridor, agressive even though I was a few levels beyond the 2x+1. Still a fair bit of food left (out of a load of swordies), so onward... Catablepons: Absolute hell, burned the rest of the food with no luck, but got a couple of pairs of laws. Gave up on catas with the next run, and took melee + mage to the Ankous.. Ankous: Went in with mage, but got hit too much, switched to melee while looking for a safe spot, no reliable cover. Once they went non-aggressive, sought cover and landed crumbles with no retaliation. Got second skull piece, went and burned rest of food on catas. On about the 3rd or 4th cata run, finally got the last piece. I'd recommend the melee/mage combo (for full runers with decent mage) against the Ankous, since melee is a slow battle with many misses, while crumbles toast them with almost every shot - means carrying double kit and less food, but so long as you can hold on until the non-agressive point, then you can mage them in peace - to be real cheap, just craft airs and minds and then fire strike with a staff.
  25. Doing something else, after a long cycle, seems to be a strong trigger. After doing a lot of catablepons, (no longer aggressive), buried one bone and got an evil chicken, also had MoM with a box. After doing many essence mining runs at Aubury's, went to buy some runes and got one. Almost as if the anti-auto system assumes that you break/change to try to avoid a random, and gives it to you anyway.
