Behavioral stages of players

Featured Replies

When i first started i just wandered around confused, accidently gaining levels in stats and not realising how.

I didnt even speak much. But i was introduced to this game by a friend and he was lvl 100 combat when i was 3 so i guess he was my role model. I would ask him if i had a problem. (shame he used macros and got banned.) i never tried scamming, i did call people noobs alot though.

I guess i was in your stage 2.

P2P offers more and better ways of making money than f2p. That's one of the cons you just have to play with if you don't feel like having 1 bigmac meal less per month.

Wait, you're not supposed to goof off in RuneScape?

These "stages" are pretty realistic, but I've never really been in stage 1 or 2, but only stage 3

When I said "goof off", I meant be immaturely annoying. You can still goof off even in stage 4, but that is a large difference from the first.

As I said this doesn't apply to everyone, it's just the general layout. Some people might start on stage 4, some might be stuck on 2, some might even skip a stage.

By popular demand, this signature is back- however I currently do not have a blog up at the moment and if I did I wouldn't update it. Sorry, the sig links to nowhere :( .

I think i roughly followed this but I never scammed or begged and was generally respectful. Alot of people comming into the game follow this to the letter. (maybe because they are younger?) I cant really remember being called a noob or calling other people noobs when I first started out. I got called noob later in the game at a higher lvl and still do. I still see very high lvls calling people noobs and just being rude much like stage 3.

I'm still quite surprised how many people don't know the difference between these, lol.

will besides the way I type. I have always typed like this. I like to look like I have a higher IQ then 50. (no offence to all the people that do use chat speak out there). I sort of went stright from stage 1 to stage 3. and nwo here I am at stage 4!

I was watching my little cousin with his friend play even though they are not supposed to be able to because they are like 10. But they were sayin stuff like "You have to make sure you put "pl8" and not "plate" I think thats slang stage lol.

Happy to find I'm not the only one who eats glass.

I agree that those seem to be the satges many people go through. I was more of the quiet and shy type though, so I don;t think I annoyed many people, and I have been in the mature stage since lvl 60, proboly because it took about 2 years to get there  . 3 years and I still havent hit 80, I just don't train combat much.

Can you tell me what the differences are between to, two, too; there, their, they're; hour, our, are?

i agree with yeh, and personally i'm in a combination of mature/slang. i can keep a nice conversation with someone who is also mature, but i revert to slang when talking to someone who only knows and understands it :P

I never was in any of those stages, even as a little kid, and now I'm way beyond lvl 4.

This is an interesting concept, but needs refining, and not just linked with Rs, this is real-life linked. It somewhat reminds me of the Kohlberg's stages of moral development. I am somewhere between lvl 5 and lvl 6 on the Kohlberg's stage, and perhaps a little more on the 6 side. Most ppl stay at lvl 4 -.- It's a shame really, if people evolved more, society could be a whole lot better.

lol ya nice, i like how u pointed out how ppl think of it as just a random game when they start, like i would rather play like tetris over rs when i started..

and u said start till quitting, maybe add a part like "losing interest" or something, and then fiinish with quitting

btw i still use slang, its just faster, and ive played for like 2 years(1k ttl in f2p)

i really dont think the sarting stage was too noticible back in 2005, so i would say i started in the slang stage, zoomed passed the developping mature stage then went to the mature stage

Woot! Got total lvl 900 in f2p!

I could say that I started straight off at stage 4, I've become more mature on my time playing but I've never called anyone a noob on purpose or used slang language. I think the reason is because I had already used the Internet for quite a while before starting RS.

Retired.

Intresting split-up here...

I think it works on alot of people actually, but not all of them. For example I don't think this "map" or what to call it should work on people who has before they started playing RS played some similiar game, like WoW.

But there's still loads of people on who this stages works fine.

Personally, I jumped over stage 2 and 3 in RS, but I was a noob for a pretty long time. This is because I had a break of about 2-3 months from RS after I have played it for about 3 months or so. During this time I played another game, similar to RS (I won't say which it was, but it was NOT WoW) where I learnt to respect the other members of the game.

After a short period of time though, I became bored and decided to keep playing RS. And now I was at stage 4. So I didn't really jump these stages, I just played them in another onilne RPG-game similar to RS.

Add me if you so wish: SwreeTak

i like to think that i have always been mature during my time playing runescape.

Vengeful+Dusk.png

Just a thought, but when you talk about level 3s at stage 4, how do you know that they're not just someone else second or third character, and if that person is mature

Help me

No.

I once used slang, but a long time ago I realized that by doing so, I was degrading language. How many of you knew dunkin donuts is incorrectly spelled? Can you tell me what the differences are between to, two, too; there, their, they're; hour, our, are?

yay! time to prove my intelligence!

yeh, 'dunkin donuts' should be 'dunking doughnuts'.

as for the rest, i know the differences, im just lazy.

I've pretty much been at stage 4 since the beginning, the only slang that I seriously use are the 3-4 letter ones, btw, brb, and some variations of 'yes'... Not a single offense, and I've never begged, and I didn't even threaten the kid who used to live down the street from me when he lured the level 3 me into attacking a cow, and then proceeded to keep the gate shut... ::'

There is no meaning or truth in life but that which we create for ourselves.

I was on a forum before runescape that was filled to the brim with grammar nazi's so, I pretty much started out at a combination of stage three and four. I think I did start out at four, but than I regressed back into a stage three and later I moved back to stage four.

I saw a few level 60s who haven't even reached starting yet...

i probs hnit matuirty nafter about 6 months... its 3 years now :) so im even more mature, btu not modest :P

Yeah...Some people just go out of their way to ruin other peoples fun.
Sounds like Jagex to me...

oh, this remembers me about the good old days :P

the beginning stage, everyone have been in this one... i can remember carefully (after level 17 cb) sneaking out of lumby and seing varrock, what a sight!

anyways, i was a little in with the slang way, using words as pl8, u r et cetera, but stopped this quite fast, as i can remember, the developing maturity stage is something i was visiting, but not in the way you say, i haven't used the word noob as much as others would. and i think i'm at the final stage now, but of cource, I could be more mature, as I'm growing irl as well.

what to say, everyone still gets more mature as we get more life experience.

another thing to add, it's very easy to say how people are like this.

f2p lumby = beginner, while most f2p persons are at the slang stage. you might meet some of those using noob quite often, but the mature ones is pretty seldom.

at a p2p world, there are as good as none beginners, but some "slangers" usally the kids around 11-12 years that moved on to p2p.

the noob ones is pretty common, and you see them all the time, more often if you are pking, or doing something competive. but you will pretty often, if you are on the right places, meet some mature players.

the execption for this is w 7 and w99, where you are most likely to meet more players one step up from the regular p2p/f2p people, as people here on tipit / tif is mostly older than the usual scaper.

heck, that was a long post :uhh: and i've talked about the double of what was needed.

Scherzo.png

I haven't dropped all slang terms. I use noob to describe the, for a lack of better words, scum that plauges lumbridge :)

I use lmao for something funny, rofl still appears sometimes.

WTF appears occasionaly when I'm extremely annoyed.

and of course the chat terms (not slang)

btw

imo

imho

brb

and a few I've come to use over time

iunno - I don't know

prolly - probably

Personally I think that you should add another stage, probably after the last one.

Some high level players can become very paranoid about people they call 'noobs' and refuse to talk to anyone unless it is to laugh at them or call them a noob. This certainly annoys me. (tends to be 110+ when I say high btw)
