Autobuyers: The Goldfarming Community's Secret Weapon

Featured Replies

As many of you might know, there are a number of level 3s in f2p rune shops that are buying all of the death and chaos runes. These are either goldfarmers or macroers, obviously- the problem is nothing new- and neither is one of the reasons: The master account makes a massive profit off of selling these runes.

But is there another reason? As goldfarmers and macroers reach very high mining levels thanks to months of essence and coal mining, they are able to start mining runite. Most of these have low combat levels and are virtually defenceless, while some may have higher defense levels. Whatever the case, these miners are most vulnerable to magic attacks. However, the supply of runes has for the most part been cut off by the rune shop autobuyers and farmers. The remaining sources? Other players, most notably the same autobuyers that cut off that supply and jack up the price significantly. Even worse, these runes also fuel the goldfarmers' protection accounts- accounts designed for the sole purpose of killing players that attempt to PK their miners. In essence, the community protects its miners by starving mages. The same goes for rangers: You'll often see a level 3 in world 1 selling ridiculous amounts of adamant arrows for 150ea.

So why is this so big a deal if it's been going on for so long? The simple fact of the matter is that these people are aggravating price drops in runite resources and stagnating magic rune prices. Armor, weapons, ores, bars, and other runite items have greatly decreased in price over the last year or so (remember when a rune plate could set you back 65k?), while death runes remain at virtually the same price. This means that PKing in f2p is slowly becoming less and less profitable, especially for mages. This makes it easy for the farmers to afford rune armor for their protection accounts and scouts. This means that Smithing - already a skill hardly worth the investment- becomes even more obsolete.

The bottom line? The legit players get screwed over while the cheaters make massive in-game and real-world profits for their dirty work- and all it takes is buying out the rune shops in every free world.

This has been going on for too long. If this bothers you, DO voice your displeasure. JaGeX already knows about this but has done nothing to stop shop autobuyers. Take every opportunity you can to kill these macroers, in the wild and out. Send complaints. Craft death runes. Just do whatever you can to counter this. That's all.

I have to agree i see alot of auto buyers

You could always try and lure a mugger near them if they in varrock rune shop buying them :XD:

If it isnt illegal that is :-$

Thanks Yaff2 for the sig^,^

This is a sad but true fact that would be very hard for Jagex to combat. First the sheer number of autoers and farmers is staggering, next even if one account gets banned or the user even gets ip banned there are many ways to change an ip or even set up and autoer on a public computer.

This is a noble cause but one that has no clear solution

britonlongbo.png

well put but seeing as im f2p cant craft deaths but i will do my part!

Could use a sig or avatar, PM me if intersted in making one.

one day macros and goldfarmers will be gone from this game and i will be happy :)

deep wild f2p pking was dead since the start of rs2...now a days, the only people that pk out there are large clans.

Autobuying is the EASIEST thing for Jagex to fix.

They simply do not care.

That doesn't really work, trust me.

Just report the macroer in question and move along

I once lured a mugger into the shop. He proceeded to stare at me when I closed the door. I ran away and came back, and he was doing leisure activity or whatever, anything but killing autobuyers.

You're being watched.

Yeah, I see a lot of auto-buyers hanging around mage shops in Mage Arean and the one in Port Sarim... It's sad to see how a fun game like this is slowly going down the drain just because some people want to make money.

Ever since I came back to p2p 15 days ago I noticed this new kind of macro, then last night as I ran down Seers bank towards the yews I saw a whole bunch of FLAX macroers? Really sad...

Yeah, the mugger trick doesn't work or is at least extremely difficult. The mugger would rather attack innocent runecrafters that pass trough the Varrock rune shop.

"Noob" is an insult. "Noob" is overused. Be polite. Try to say "noob" less than once a day.

Thank you.

1: As long as the game is popular, there will be gold farmers.

2: Unfortunately Jagex can't magically make them all go away and block them from ever returning. They ARE doing something, even if for every 100 they catch another 300 get in.

"300 programmers make their futile but glorious last stand against 1000000 angry players in The battle of Misthalin. They fight for honor, glory and new content sacrificing themselves so that their game may live on. This is Madness! This Is JAGEEEX!"

There are whole categories of autoers they could eliminate easily through code changes.

Simply restrict the number of items any character can buy from a shop in a certain period of time. Problem solved.

I think all JaGeX needs to do is reset aggression zones for all shoppers. While the shop window is open, monsters in that area should be aggressive. This would work until they train the macroers' combat. Then God help us when they need to be banned.

I have a better idea: Look for ALL the accounts that use the default look and delete them.

That's a moronic idea. What if someone likes the default look and wants to make a level 3 skiller?

  • Never trust anyone. You are always alone, and betrayal is inevitable.
  • Nothing is safe from the jaws of the decompiler.

I have a better idea: Look for ALL the accounts that use the default look and delete them.

Not all of them look like that.

Quit RuneScape :)

And what if some legit players happen to use the default look? Should we ban you just because of how you look?

Besides, all the autoers would have to do is just change the hair, or some other aspect during acount creations and then this would have no effect.

I hate em too, they drive bowstring prices down immensley. I haven't bought flax from a legit player in months-and now I HAVE to sell bowstrings for 150-170 each, thanks to autoers. Its completely out of control, I used to enjoy spinning flax as a source of crafting xp and cash. I wish I could just fly in and eat all the autoers for 12 hp each...

catch it now so you can like it before it went so mainstream

WE all wish the same thing.

If only that was reality -.-

log out and he will find a new target.

There are many ways the rune store autobuyers can be "fixed", though some may just make the vermin harder to spot - eg. store will not sell you runes you cannot use.

Some other possibilities - tackle the way the level 3 no-marks get the coin to buy runes with - got to be some seriously one-sided trades there.

In the store itself, have the availability vary per person, with those who have more stock than the store would seeing the store having less stock than it really does - now that WOULD help genuine players wanting some runes, compared to both autos and store to player merchanting leechers.

And there should definitely be some store randoms, for those sitting on the store for unreasonable amounts of time - several events could be adapted with an "irate shopkeeper" - eg. evil twin to "catch the shoplifter", odd one out, the certers.

PS. If the idea is really to protect their rune miners, then I'm gonna pack some firepower and go hunting.

I have to agree i see alot of auto buyers

That's not illegal, instead it's a great way making more people follow the rules :P.

Add me if you so wish: SwreeTak

it doesn't affect me directly so i don't worry about it. i don't buy from shops since it would be much faster to buy in bulk from others

though i do wonder, since they need money to buy the runes then jagex can see who they got the money from. if it's the same account for alot of them then that's easy to pick off

What?
