Thatguy555
I'm not sure about that one but I would love to have runescape in French, since I'm learning it. Sam
Maybe Scandanavians play habbo :XD: [EDIT] Olde English, Sounds a bit like German, and thinking about it, they spoke it in Medieval times, and RuneScapeis medieval. 2257AD.TUMBLR.COM
jessy87
Mandarin Chinese Hindustani Spanish Russian Arabic Bengali Portugese Malay-Indonesian French The bold ones are the most likely to play RuneScape (not sure about Russia). Asian countries probably play Korean and Japanese games. also, dont you think china should be discredited when it has, i honestly dont know how many times the people as a country of equal size.(especially considering like 70-90% of its people live on the eastern half of the country because the western area is mostly mountains and not nearly as populated.) mcneilp
I read an article (Will post link if asked) about the Population of people that speak each language, this particular article listed the top 30 languages spoken in the world based on the number of speakers (in millions). Mandarin chinese was 1st with just over 1050m speakers worldwide. German was 12th with 123m speakers world wide with french ranked 10th and spanish ranked 4th (the second highest european language, english being 1st, ranked 2nd.) I feel some people underestimate how many people speak german, but i think Jagex have some kind of plan by making the german servers, maybe something to do with potential market? :-k It isn't in the castle, It isn't in the mist, It's a calling of the waters, As they break to show, The new Black Death, With reactors aglow, Do you think your security, Can keep you in purity, You will not shake us off above or belowScottish frictionScottish fiction
Tbfgraphx14
In hardest to learn languages to learn, where would english be? :-k I myself think it is a rather hard language to learn. Jagex didn't just go "let's pick a random language and do hundreds of hours of work to translate it!" I am sure they have thought about this. jsboutin2
Probably for the large dutch and German population that plays the game. Honestly, have you ever seen players speaking in French in RS? Yes, myself, 6-10 of my friends and a LOT of other people talking directly to another person... But almost all RS french (or any other language) players are bilingual. When selling 10 yew longs, I'll say it in english for everyone to understand.
CentriX_2
Don't worry they are coming. One or ywo years ago first time i went into forums i saw a mod (can't remember name) confirming that these were in development, so until the end of the year we'll probably see another language. Just so you know, Portuguese is one of the hardest languages to learn in the world, but one of the most spoken. And I KNOW that translating Rs into Portuguese would take a lot of time and effort. ~Cent Dragon Drops : Axe, Shield Left HalfDk drops : Axe, Zerker (X3)Barrow drops : Torag Plate (X3), Ahrim Robeskirt, Dharok LegsGWD drops : Sara Sword, Bandos Tassets, Zammy Spear
fakeitormakeit
Are there seriously that many Germans who play? Every time I walk around I see Como Estas? or Do you speak french (in french) I remember when I use to play regularly, I use to see so many people speaking German, so yes. And some people learn a lick of a language like como estas or parle vou francez in school or something else and then they think they are hot shots cuz they can say do you speak X, how are you or what is your name, so they go and say it on Runescape to get attention. (Its quite funny to then see the people being asked respond fully and the asking party is like ????) Fact: Although you listed most widely spoken languages, thats for the world not Runescape and secondly that includes second languages :P
onauric
Can someone answer me this. Why the Hell Did they make it German. Don't worry, I'm 99.5 % sure that Jagex made their decision mostly based on their web statistics. They probably also calculated that Germany is the most potential country in Europe for scape. It's also logical that they started their localizing in Europe. Brontay
Or maybe Jagex decided that as a good start, German would be easy, I study German (at school) and its about as close to English as you'll get. Also maybe it was decided among staff members, and possibly one of them is German?
Dalcyte
Germany was a completley untapped market, that could provided quite a bit of money. Chinese...well, how are they going to do chinese? It'd be incredible hard, and a great deal of chinese people know english. In terms of spanish, and spain...i'm not really sure about that..looking at some statistics, Germany has more english speakers than spain..but that's just spain. A lot of Spanish speaking countries have a large number of English-Speakers, and there are countries that speak Spanish all over, all of South America virtually, Central America, and mexico...these people probably know more English because they're right near the US? And it's important for them to learn it? German Speaking countries probably have less of need to learn English, because most of them need only German to succeed in economical things... Just a guess though Click for mah Blog!- I'm not sure why you would though because i never update it Achieved 99 Thieving 3/10/07-992nd to it

("Parlez-vous fran̮̤̉̉ais?" would mean "do you speak french?".) Actually I was trying to say. I see people saying, "Hola, Como Estas? Hablas Espanol? Or Bonjour. Comment allez vous. Just a guess though I am Mexican, and I can say that practically all people that plays Runescape in Mexico speak English. They should make a French server first, then a Spanish one and finally a Spanish one. Most Portugese speakers know Spanish or English. I am trying to get better. You can see my poor spelling. jackal_55
German, English, and Dutch are very closely related languages, jagex probably chose to translate RS into German first because its so close to English, that way they could see if its viable, or possible to translate RS into other languages, that aren't so closely related. i would literally be a nightmare trying to translate RS into some languages, simply because of the amount of text. nudist hippy vegan elves who inexplicably wear leather.
