This month, the Wise Old Man has been tinkering in the kitchen and has come up with the perfect snack for Hallowe'en - Pumpkin Crunchies! These crunchies will be great for a ghoulishly good get-together or to terrify those tricky treaters!

Pumpkin Crunchies

Note: If you don't have level 99 Cooking in real life, make sure you have your own wise old person on hand to keep an eye on things at high temperature.

Preparation:

Preheat oven to 175 degrees Celsius (350 degrees Fahrenheit)

Ingredients:

2 cups (450g) canned pumpkin

1 and 1/4 cups (250g) brown sugar

1 and 1/4 cups (280g) white sugar

4 cups (440g) flour

1 and 1/4 (280g) cups butter

2 teaspoons baking powder

2 teaspoons baking soda

1/2 teaspoon cinnamon

1 teaspoon vanilla

1 teaspoon salt

2 large eggs

Optional Toppings:

1/2 teaspoon ground ginger

1/4 teaspoon cloves

1/2 teaspoon more cinnamon

1 generous handful of oatmeal

Nuts and raisins

Directions:

1. Combine the flour, baking soda, baking powder, cinnamon, and salt. (If you are using any of the optional toppings, the ginger, cloves, cinnamon and/or oatmeal should be added to this mixture.) Set aside.

2. In a large bowl, mix the pumpkin, butter, white sugar, brown sugar, eggs and vanilla until thoroughly mixed and creamy.

3. Slowly add the dry ingredients into the pumpkin mixture and stir until everything is thoroughly blended. (If you'd like, you can add a cup of nuts or raisins at this point. Pecans or walnuts work quite well in these crunchies.)

For fun:

Cut crunchy dough in a pumpkin shape and use pecans, raisins, chocolate chips to make jack'o'lantern faces.

To bake:

1. Spoon crunchy dough onto a lightly greased baking sheet. Make sure you leave space between the crunchies as they spread out when they bake!

2. Bake at around 175 degerees Celsius (350 degrees Fahrenheit) for 15-20 minutes, or until crunchies are golden brown. Note: it's a good idea to watch your crunchies carefully when they're baking - ovens differ, so yours might bake more quickly or may need an extra few minutes!

MMmmmmm *crunch* mmmmMMMMmmm *munch* mmMMmmmMM *scoff* mmMMmmmmM!

Anybody going to make some? :D

Share if you do please. O:)

I thought this game was aimed at older people, or at least it used to be.

Looks like something interesting and all, but that little "99 cooking in real life" just ruined the whole thing for me. It sounds like something an elementary teacher might say if their whole class played RuneScape.

13+ year old people some times do get a bit careless with ovens and such.

I know, I thought the same to. Jagex must still think we're all 5 year olds. :|

No longer playing Runescape, I caught the WoW bug.

Oh will you guys please stop being so insecure  It's just said so that some kids don't do stupid things and then blame it on Jagex (which 13 year olds are highly capable of doing). Until you're 18, you are not an adult, so suck up your pride and stop with this crap about "I'm mature so I don't want jagex treating me as if I am younger" (it's just to avoid any issues, hey they even took the time to make a joke, let's encourage it). It's really getting annoying. Just ignore the message if it bothers you so much.

And no, the message isn't aimed at 5 year olds, it's aimed at 13 year olds (or even anyone under 18)

Now on topic, I'm not a huge fan of pumpkin treats like these, but it's a neat initiative.

What he said.

And I'll note with irony, once again, that it's always the most childish people around here who whine about Jagex "treating them like children".
