Whould you give up your right to vote for an Ipod?

Featured Replies

Now you probably know how important voting is, but whould trade your right to vote, for an Ipod? I don't understand how any body whould do that! Let along for money!

[hide]Two-thirds say they'll do it for a year's tuition. And for a few, even an iPod touch will do.

That's what NYU students said they'd take in exchange for their right to vote in the next presidential election, a recent survey by an NYU journalism class found.

Only 20 percent said they'd exchange their vote for an iPod touch.

But 66 percent said they'd forfeit their vote for a free ride to NYU. And half said they'd give up the right to vote forever for $1 million.

But they also overwhelmingly lauded the importance of voting.

Ninety percent of the students who said they'd give up their vote for the money also said they consider voting "very important" or "somewhat important"; only 10 percent said it was "not important."

Also, 70.5 percent said they believe that one vote can make a difference ̢̢̮ââ¬Å¡Ã¬Ã¢ââ¬Ã

An ipod for the right to vote...no.

An free ticket to collage for the right to vote for a year, yes it would be worth it.

Considering 70% of people in general don't bother to vote anyway it doesnt make much of a difference.

Exactly, and it's just the right to vote in one election. The article implies you would regain your right to vote after the election has finished.

I despise IPODS so.. no.

A friend to all is a friend to none.

Aren't pensioners the people who vote the most? I just can't imagine my grandma listening to an iPod/even wanting that kind of technology.

The fact that so many people are willing to give up their right to vote for any reason is frightening.

Politics is a Scam anyway....Everyone is corrupt....Everything is a conspriacy

Im going for the free Ipod pl0x <3:

NYU is one of the most expensive colleges out there; I can see how free tuition might be pretty darn tempting...

(I'm struggling just to pay for room and board this semester, my parents are paying my tuition)

Everybody hug and spread the love :D

Sure. Not like I can vote anyway. 8-)

If I was 18, though, I would give up my vote. Unless, of course, they got rid of the Electoral College, and therefore the voting was actually fair.

It's actually close to a 50/50 split for presidential elections :P .

If they gave me a free ride to college, in return for not voting this election?

Hell yes. Voting is important and all that jazz -- but not having to pay for college, or even not having to pay for half of it, would be a blessing.

For an iPod? Nah.

No, i need to use my right to vote against parties i hate.

In the current state of mind that I am in now, I'm going to say I'd take the ipod. I'm not voting age yet, but even now I don't think I honestly care that much.

I personally dont' feel that I need to vote unless the prez starts doing stuff like eating kittens. <.< ::'

I wouldn't give up my right to vote for anything.

I would take the $1m to never vote again, and a years tuition to not vote just once.

I'd be willing to give up voting rights for a year to pay university fees (when I go).

iPod, probably not. Depends what politics is worth to you though.

"Da mihi castitatem et continentam, sed noli modo"

None of the three main parties (I'm British so Conservatives, Labour and Lib Dems) really vary in policies that would affect my life in anyway. And its a guarentee that one of those three will be in power. If the BNP threatened to come into power, I would definately vote against it. Simularly if a major party stated that it would legalise certain drugs, I would vote for it as long as it's other policies were ok with me.

I wouldn't do it for an Ipod. I would for a years tuition though.

Thanks Venomai for this super sig and Kwimbob for the awesome avatar!

I wouldn't give up my right to vote for an ipod... but maybe for something more substantial.

A vote is worth little now anyway.... man, even prisoners are allowed to vote. The whole thing is a farse... i'd give mine up for a grand lol

I wouldn't give it up for the iPod (I already have one anyway :P ).

I would give it up for the NYU tuition. That place is pricey! :P

And I would giev it up for the million. I'd just pay peopel to vote for me. they'd be losing their vote then, not me. :D

I hate iPods. :wall: I can't stand them now that I've tried a Zen and SanDisk. It's more of a fashion statement than an MP3 player, and the white earbuds are a magnet for muggers after midnight.

I wouldn't give up my right to vote for an iPod, or any other MP3 player for that matter. That's pretty selfish... :|

Although I would give it up for better health care, education, marijuana legalization, gun control, etc.

I would give up voting rights for an ipod touch. With the stupid electoral college system america has in place now, my vote doesnt matter anyway. Say if i voted for bush in Massachusetts, it wouldnt of mattered because as long as kerry won the state, my vote goes nowhere.

Look its rob!
