Why I'm unsubscribing (though I still may play)

Kind of seems pointless that I bought 3 santas...

Anyways, I am probably going to quit as well. The Duel Arena update was bad enough. Then it got worst with the G.E., now trading, dropping, and pking are pointless. What makes it even worst is that they gave the Duel Arena to F2P! We paid for those rights and they gave it to F2P.

I am not saying that F2P sucks and shouldn't deserve it, but we paid for it.

"The Duel Tournament area is still members' only, however."

Oh wow, that's fantastic. At least be got to keep the crappy updated Duel Arena away from the F2P. Thanks Jagex!

Very, very well put. I'm in that same boat. I have a good friend and one of the only reasons I still log on every so often is to loan him a party hat or two and have fun with them in a crowded bank. They just took soo many facets away from this game. People just can't bond the same way that they used to.

There's no trust anymore. Jagex disallowed people to have the ability to put trust into each other. They sacrificed our freedom of trust in other players to ensure the safety of a stupid minority, and to end "unbalanced trades."

I don't really play anymore, but if I did ... well now, I wouldn't play anymore. I made a fake parody post that was laughable including these exact updates a few weeks ago. It was funny. Nobody thought that that joke of a reality of runescape could actually happen. Runescape will still be the same game to many, but jagex has lost a core group of loyal players.

I was going to come back after christmas from a short break. But now with all these completely insane and totally unneeded changes I have no desire to. I would always give my cousin items I had no need for like rune armor or stuff and he would give my new account stuff like low level armor and stuff. But now that I cant play the way I wish there is no reason for me to stay.

  • 2 weeks later...

I think the main problem is that Jagex completly missed seeing what the real problem was, the buyers of gold.

I think that Jagex should almost completely ignore bots and put all their efforts into banning all accounts that buy the gold.

freaking drama queen. "this is just silly, this does nothing to improve the way I play the game." yeah and unsubscribing is going to make that much better. duh. i'm a veteran, and did i mention i'm a veteran. lot of rambling; no real point to your message lime and no surprise that your post doesnt get locked even though it belongs in the leaving/taking a break sticky.

just another self-important player that if they cant have things their way they threaten to quit. as if runescape hasnt changed at all since you started playing and you've made use of those changes but refuse to adjust to these? your choice but they made these changes for the better of the game and they will still be updating the game.

i doubt you'll stay unsubscribed. a whole $5 it's just so much money isnt it? god what a load of garbage you are trying to sell. and to think they made you a mod. just have to love all the drama threads. :-X

What are you talking about? Do you really play runescape?

I agree with her because everybody has its own way to play the game, I'm not a famous player or a great veteran with really good skills but at least I have played this game the required game to know when and how it is decaying. I spent arround four years in this game (played classic only once) and met a lot of friends, some that were too great so I know then in real life and we used to play with the sharing terms, now JaGex close that posibility to the loyal players that have made strong chains of friendship throught Runescape.

Your topic reminds me of one key issue of RWT that I believe Jagex has lost sight of. There are two types of RWT.

The first is the macro/sweatshop based RWT, where companies in China and elsewhere produce gold which can be sold.

However, the second type is entirely different in the method, though the result is the same. Wealthy stakers/merchanters (not going to name names) have, from time to time sold gold. However, the gold these players collected was through mostly legitimate methods, such as merchanting and monster hunting. In short, by these players selling gold, the gameplay for everyone else does not become worse.

Therefore, this second group of players should not be targeted because their actions do not destroy the game for the remainder of players because they do play the game as it is supposed to be played.

I agree with Lime Mercury 110% as this is too the way that I play, but not just me alone...

I lead a clan, and a large attraction about us is that we have shops inside the clan itself... This would mean a set exchange rate of 2 pure essence for 1 nature rune... Or the fact that you get 9 herbpoints for giving our higher level herblorists a single ranarr herb, and asking another for 2 hunter potions in return (basicly a store credit based shop)...

I've written time and again about this trade update, but noone puts the frustration it has put on me as Clanleader where my clan has an entire system built on the possibility of free trade in better words then the thread starter...

I know also why jagex does this and they do allow for an initial 3k and if you maxed at your questpoints to a maximum of 30k difference between the rigth and left half of a screen... 30k per 15 minutes...

At the GEX one can easily overcome this, and trade for more profit but it is still not satisfactory, because from friends you KNOW you get the items when you trade, whereas 105 black dhide bodies have been sitting there ot be sold since forever...

I have thought of many solutions to atleast grant us an opportunity as equal as the GEX does, and I have worded it out several times, but for reference sake, read here...

My clan and since a short time ago, several others will keep on campaigning for making the left and right half of the screen based on a percentage, rather then a fixed value... It would still solve the rwt problems without damaging longtime relationships, and above all keep the trading business a free one (rather then being stuck to 6 slots)

Did you know that a Power amulet is now worth 2.5k at the GEX? 2 months ago it was worth 10k...

Yes i have cancelled membership aswell.

Basically, because it was the last straw.

The first one being PC products, tainting the honour of my mage cape.

The second one, being hacked for 100m and my mod crown, although i got the crown back 4 months later.

And finally the updates that cripple hopes, ambition and independance.

THe updates, keep the rich, permanently at the top, with me with no chance of ever reaching anywhere near there billions. I see no point in playing if i can not even compete with people at the top. Duelling was that window of oppurtunity; it is now closed.

It is very hard to have your own independant ideas and playstyle now. Things like Rune essence running (law/nat running) were genius idea, which seperated the men from the boys; but now everyone is at equal speeds of income, with less sense of ambition and effiency because of skills becoming automatic, like fletch x. With no string x, i could do 3k bows per hour, and less skillful fletchers would be able to do 2k. Now we are all the same, no matter of independant ideas, and skill.

I do not pay for the ability to click and be like everyone else. If i played for hours everyday i would be marginally better than some. I played to be the best, but now i'm stuck in the middle. Even with high skills such as my own i cannot exceed other players.

Yes there is more to life than being the best (not much though), but having fun isn't one of those things.

TO have fun i need to exceed everyone else, and nthere is no way to do that anymore. You can't even become a top dueller or PKer and make famous videos anymore. BH videos would just be a team mugging afew victims.

We are all stuck (relatively) at average joe level now, except for those that were ahead before the update, who own billions and have no way of losing it.

I still talk to my few remaining friends once a fortnight on RS, but i need not pay for a glorified chat program.

Tis not good days.

Yeah...Some people just go out of their way to ruin other peoples fun.
Sounds like Jagex to me...

While I disagree that those who sell gold period should not be punished or targeted, it is true that people who once earned money by staking, merching, or PKing should not have lost their livelihoods in this stupid crusade.

That was a very nice read, and it's all too true. I agree with EVERYTHING. It's sad to see so many OG scapers leaving nowadays because of the things JaGeX has done to punish the small percentage of the overall players in the game that cheat their way through.

I am curious about your role in the Ghostly and D plate ideas though, if you'll be so kind to tell me how it went down. Stuff like that is super interesting to me. :)

It's always sad when a veterants quits the game, a little piece of history gone. Good luck in your future.
I'm "technically" a veteran and no one gives a damn that I don't play as much. Three years, no appreciation. I guess you have to be high ranked in a stat or something

I remember when I used to play like that. I miss being able to freely hand around stuff like that, but eventually, for me, it got to the point where too many people were asking me for stuff, many continuously and it just had to stop. The final step was when my irl friend lost a phat of mine when he asked to just borrow it to wear.

Post RV, I was never involved with much of the rs community so I've been playing more or less solo, once in a while doing something with an old friend, but I understand your pain.

We've seen the "new" generation of players: immature beggars, people who are only obsessed with their wealth and levels, a much less friendly community.

But what will happen with the next generation, people who don't even get to trade freely or help another person?

It feels like every step jagex takes is against the community feeling. Through making the game easier and easier, they've attracted a younger and younger audience and now they are going to seal the fate of the community where you could, several years ago, start a conversation with another person in the game and enjoy it together.

I quit before all the Jagex rwting police force fully swept runescape, and I'm glad I can see runescape as it once was and not what it became.

It's really a shame that these updates are making so many experienced players quit, but honestly, it needed to be done. Even though it negatively affects my gameplay, I still agree with and support the update. JaGex have tried for 5 years to combat bots and gold selling through less drastic means with little success.

They introduce random events and instead of bald men in green shirts chopping Yews and mining ess, there were bald men in random event clothes chopping Yews and mining ess.

They introduced Pure Essence and gold farmers just bought memberships with the knowledge that it would pay for itself, or simply used stolen credit cards.

They tried banning bots and IPs, but the gold farmers just got new bots and IPs.

They tried banning the buyers and making public examples of those that were caught, but most were not and people continued to buy gold anyway.

From what I can gather, JaGex finally had enough of people getting around everything they did and were going to make damn sure they stopped it once and for all, even if it meant losing customers.

Anyone saying that bots didn't hurt their gameplay and didn't need to be removed needs to take a step back at look at the harm they caused to people around them. They hurt many people, and not just by making a silly game worse.

Many bot accounts were paid for with a stolen credit card. A small $5 USD per month charge may go unnoticed for quite a while, and that can add up over time.

I may be wrong, but I'd be shocked if most hacked accounts went to 14 yr olds who just want pixelated riches. Gold sellers have one purpose: to make as much gp as possible in the shortest time possible to make as much real money as possible. What faster way is there than hacking a rich, careless account?

Also remember that getting rid of bots helps out a lot of players too. Those who want to fish, cut logs, mine essence, or kill dragons for money will have a much easier time of it and find that it is more profitable. In that way the updates enhance the gameplay of a significant number of people.

So, even though it made my goal of 99 Prayer that much harder and made it much more difficult to help friends, I support the update 100% and commend JaGex for having the courage to stand for what is right even though they knew full well that it would be unpopular and cause quite a few long-standing members to cancel their subscriptions.
