June 19, 200818 yr I've noticed that some Seeds (Irit, Avantoe, Toadflax, etc.) sell for less than one tenth of the price of the Herbs that they produce. Then again, Snapdragon Seeds sell for four to five times of the price of Snapdragon Herbs. Why does this happen? Any ideas?
June 19, 200818 yr Author ~Why not just farm Trees, then? If ten Snapdragons (400k?) = one Magic Tree (180k,) then why not just farm the tree? Less hassle and faster exp, right?~

June 19, 200818 yr but then you can't plant another tree in there,or you need to dig out the magic tree, then you lose money.
June 19, 200818 yr Simple supply and demand. Snapdragon, ranarr etc have more valuable potions so people are happy to grow the herbs as it's cheaper than buying them, they have a tangible value for the end product and provide better xp, so higher demand. Equally, on the supply side, ranarr seeds, snap seeds and so on are a far less frequent drop, so not as many sellers, ergo price goes up.
June 19, 200818 yr The herb prices of those seeds are much higher, so you would make massive profit if those seeds would be cheap. Snaps, for example, would be around 50-60k profit per seed, so everyone would farm them if the seeds would be cheap. But, the herbs wouldn't go down in prices, because everyone wants super restores. As a result there is way more demand than supply for snapdragon seeds, so the price goes up. It's the other way round for the cheap seeds, the herbs aren't expensive so you make way less profit off the seeds, even with incredibly low seed prices. As a result, the seed prices stay low. I currently farm kwuarms, a good mix between profit, herb xp and seed prices : .

June 19, 200818 yr Farming isn't popular anyway. Very few people enjoy doing it, and most only train it for quests. Before the GE people didn't sell uncommon seeds as they couldn't find buyers easily. When the GE came into play all these seeds got put en-mass into the GE and were readily buyable. Herb wise Farmers are only really interested in ranarrs, snaps and the highest herb they can farm. They use the ranarrs and snaps in the My Arm patch and one linked to the ammy of nature and the other 3 patches are filled with high XP giving herbs. As you have said some seeds are cheap as chips, it's better to get 21ish dwarf weeds per run than 21ish irits and the cost is negligable. Also due to the easiness of getting seeds and apples people are using Strawberries as the main allotment produce. This is a cheap, enforced farmer payment, and opens the flower patch up to grow marigolds which easily pays for the baskets of apples. Bearing in mind people can do these runs every 1.5 hours it makes some nice XP/profit \ Trust the Gene Genie!
June 19, 200818 yr Low seed prices are a great thing, in my opinion. The cost of one herb could be ~1000gp, and the seed is only 100gp (fictional herb haha [could be compared to avantoe]). A majority of the time you will get about 5-6 herbs per seed, more or less depending on luck, which means you can easily make money of the skill. I believe it's one of the best money makers out there. Even at level 2 you can make about 37k an hour, using marigolds, and 3 patches. The seeds are maybe 50gp, and the flower is a whopping 3+k. If that's not profit I don't know what is. Quality posting at its finest.
June 19, 200818 yr Because a lot of people seem to dislike farming, so they don't buy the seeds apart from high profit ones. How many times have we heard somebody complain about how they hate farming on tif? There's a poll on salmoneus: "If you could "un-invent" (so that it never existed) one of the following skills, which would it be?" and farming wins with 8230 votes  2480+ total
June 19, 200818 yr Because there's probably enough super sets in the game to last a couple months if no one made anymore. Prayer potions and super restores are always going to be used constantly at GWD. Come to #tip-it on Swift IRC, if you're cool
June 19, 200818 yr yea ive more than 500 sup sets sitting in my f2p bank...all from the herbs and seeds i got from manage thy kingdom...if i got 500 kwuarms, candantines and irits potions sitting in my bank doing nothing cause its just not worth it to sell, just imagine how many other low level herbs i have put on the ge... maxed out melee on 10/10/08, current goal: 94/99 cookinglife may be unfair, but why can't it be unfair in my favor?my fake plant died because i forgot to pretend to water it

June 19, 200818 yr Just make a calculation: Irit seed: cost = 70 gp profit (with an average of 7 herbs) = 7k (dunno how much irits are). xp = 60 (not sure, i dont farm them, just to give you an image) Snapdragon seed: cost = 40 000 gp profit = 7*8k - 40k = 16k xp = 98 (and I've taken an expensive price for seeds, and not expensive one for herbs, 16k is minimum, it's more towards 30k tbh). June 20, 200818 yr As has already been said, it's a supply and demand thing. Snapdragons and Ranarrs make potions that everyone wants. Plus, not a lot of people really enjoy farming apparently (I do, however), creating even more of a demand which there are fewer people willing to fill. However, you can use those low level seeds for basically free farming and herb exp, if you collect your own seconds, or very cheap herb exp if you buy the seconds. Endless possibilites!

June 21, 200818 yr ~You can cut a Magic Tree infinite times, and it's close to a Bank. Plus, the Roots have value.~ No one cuts the trees they plant to pay for the seeds. The roots are what 30k each? If that anymore.
June 21, 200818 yr It's true most people don't like farming so seeds in general are cheap and herb seeds are very cheap. Seeds take much longer than flowers and allotments to grow, take that into account also. The Runescape Wilderness - Meili's Blog
June 22, 200818 yr I made a spreadsheet the other day to figure out the profit you get from commonly-planted herb seeds. It's not that great, but... http://spreadsheets.google.com/pub?key=pI_Qb-gA9KF6X6BtvCUVHEA It's pretty easy to get 100k profit off a 10-minute herb run.
