Item Lending - Friend or Foe?

Recommended Posts

Now with item lending on the way i was thinking, Will it cause ALL items to fall in price?

I know we dont have all the infomation on item lending such as how much u can lend them,

whether or not you can only lend a certain item's etc but do you think it will still cause the

economy to fall dramatically? Do you think its time to start selling your higher priced item's?

Not sure if there is already a topic on this subject, couldnt find when searched =P

I think the only things that it may affect slightly are godswords (due to people trying once and finding out they're overrated for training) and rares because people will just pay the 30k to another player to borrow for a day.

I don't care about some little game economy, I'm just scared of all the noobs that will follow me "Lend me your santa!"

EDIT: By the way, I'm f2p as well.

Some games do not mix...

It'd be a person with a rare's foe.

It'd be a who with a what now? Do you Mind elaborating?

Anyways...Ya, if I get spammed messaged to lend my stuff to noobs, I don't see it as a bad thing...That is, if the person has to pay a fee to have an item lent to you... :P

Na, just kidding, but that might actually stop the spamming "phr33 5@/\/7@ pl0x!" However, that would increase begging so they could get money to borrow...Wow, what a dillema.

As long as they don't bother me, I'm fine with it...I don't particularly think the economy will be damaged, maybe uber items, but I'm pretty much sure that'll be it.

Person with a rare = subject

's foe = shows that the item lending is the foe.

In other words, he meant that Item Lending would be bad for anyone who has a rare.

Haha, couldn't believe I didn't see that. Thanks for elaborating, it's kinda early and I'm not using my brain at the moment anyway... ;)

I like the idea of lending items because I used to do that before with my friends... And this way I know they won't be stolen too by just ingame friends :P.

I'm thinking Jagex might put a price cap on it. It'd mainly be to replace loaning someone your tinderbox so they can get a log to cook their precious precious lobbies on Karamja.

Maybe at 200qp there's no cap or something, though...

Somehow i doubt that their will be an offical "lend for cash" system and to be fair, profiting from it would be hard because i think you can only lend while both players are logged in. (pretty sure i read that on the main website somewhere)

As for the economic side of it, I cant see it causein a massive change generaly if you want something then you want it and if its only a lend its not really yours.

one use i can see though... if you die with lended gear does it instantly return to the lender? if so you could put a guy in a normaly high-risk situation purely with lent gear and be safe in the knolage that nothing would be lost if he dies.

I definitely think the showoff items will plummet. Everyone will have easy access to them, so they won't be held in high regard anymore unless there's a way to tell if a person really owns an item or is just borrowing it.

I'm not really looking forward to it. You're not really loaning an item like you used to. Back when you lent someone a party hat, that was loaning an item. Now you're using a system that has no risk where people spam you to let them artificially hold on to something for a period of time.

Anyway, not looking forward to it. Because of my level, people will see my party hats now, and instead of congratulating me, will accuse me of not really owning them. If we can loan rares, we should be able to loan things like skill capes. Both are achievements. If one achievement is devalued, why not do the same to all?

I wouldn't mind if it worked like the assist system where you have to be near a person to "loan" their skill. But if it's how I'm imagining it, it'll be a blow to rare item owners.

Any speculation based on "Why get a godsword if you can borrow one?" is going to be wrong. Come on, you can't just assume that there's always going to be somebody next to you with a godsword who's willing to have it effectively disappear from them for however long you want it. We heard the same thing about the assist system--"Nobody's going to train skills when they can just request assistance and get what they want without trying!" And here we are with steel bars still at 650 gp.

I'll bet the lender will need to be very close by.

I hope not because i thought maybe i could borrow a whip to train for a day(dont have the money) and i dont think anyone wants to just sit there and watch me train all day! :o

Let's just hope that Jagex bug tests the crap out of this. Some of the stuff that gets by them, this could turn into a nightmare.

In one of the dev diaries, they went into a pretty good amount of detail of how item lending would be.

you can lend any item that doesnt degrade, or is otherwise marked untradeable

you can only lend or have lent 1 item at a time

you can set how long you wish to lend the item (anywhere from 1 hour, to when the person logs out, or when you log out, up to 24 or 48 hours or something)

you cant trade a lent item, and if you die you keep it over anything you may have

and some other things, such as the item being marked as "lender's name" 's godsword ect.

I'm pretty sure there will be NO limit to the price of items lent, this is implemented to bring back item lending in a safe way (i remember being lent whips and such to use for training and then trading back before i logged out) but this way you have no risk of loosing a lent item.

I say its gonna be fun to be able to lend items out to people, make their day, and have cool items lent to me, i doubt it will have any dire effect on prices of anything really, not directly at least, think of how many people will actually lend items to begin with, and think about how that would affect the economic value of the item, there arent any more of them in the game, supply hasnt gone up, only temporary demand has been satisfied, so in theory, the market would technically go up because of increased demand overall.. I think.

Reverents can be a pain, but you can run away from them. Just curious, do they still have teleblocking ability?

Fear the church, the reverents have 85 magic!!!!

Finally, someone actually putting more thought into it.

I cant help but to think that the first few days thousands of people will find some way to keep the items they were lended via a bug or glitch.

They also detailed exactly what kinds of items will be lendable, high priced items like tradable rares, dragon armor and weapons, third age armor.

The logic behind your thinking might just be true, but then again it can go either way.

If someone has the money for a specific item, and they borrow said item from their friend to test it out for a period.

They could either decide they don't like it, or it's not worth the pricetag, thereby lessening demand. They could also decide that it is actually worth all that money and buy it, increasing demand. This could also apply to those who dream of having some expensive item one day, then get a loan of it from a friend. They could like it so much they'll work hard for weeks or months to buy it, and feel entirely satisfied with their purchase.

Much of the Runescape economy is so messed up it's entirely impossible to predict price shifts. The only thing certain is that Jagex will not let incredibly high-priced items rise by much more. Therefore, the only way is down.

Jagex truly do want to give their players the freedom they crave with updates like this, so I'm sure most, if not all tradable items will be able to be lent. Given their track record of late, Jagex will also bug test the hell out of this, creating every scenario imaginable to make sure your items are safe. Personally though, I'm not going as far as trusting them until at least a day after the update.

From what I've read and heard of the coming update, it will begin to sound a return to regulated freedom, however much of an oxymoron that is. I think this update might come out around August I'd assume.

Combined with the coming graphical level, we might just entice a few of the old hands of Runescape back into the game.

I'll get it one day, really.

I just said in the post above your that only select, valuable items will be lendable.
