Item Lending - Friend or Foe?

Featured Replies

I just said in the post above your that only select, valuable items will be lendable

There's such an extensive list of items that while not desirable to you, might be to someone.

Even if you only count items which can't simply be traded normally, you're talking near hundreds of weapons and armours. It's possible that Jagex will limit the lend function to specific items but there are too many unconventional items that you might want to get a loan of for this to be plausible.

If indeed Jagex do limit lending to the higher end items then there will be numerous complaints from people who simply want to loan items which are stuck in that purgatory between the trade limit and the lendable items list.

You don't listen do you? They already said they were limiting item lending to certain items, and I already said that .....

Edit: To silence anyone who says "Your liying, you made it all up" like people do before I prove them wrong here you go, it's part of a post by Mod Ash who is in charge of the item lending feature:

1. Only certain specific items will be lendable. We can't allow people to borrow items that are untradeable, that degrade during use, that have charges or get used up. We've focused on high-level combat kit such as Third-Age clothing, Waterbirth Island armour, rings, godswords, dragon weapons and armour, most rune stuff, mystic armour and dragonhide. These will allow you to help friends who are fighting large creatures with you. More items can be made lendable in the future.

5. After some discussion, we decided to allow the lending of party hats, santa hats and Hallowe'en masks; before the trade restrictions came into effect, people frequently lent these items to their friends, so we're going to allow it with the item lending system too. I appreciate that people may feel this detracts from the glamour of showing off their valuable possessions, but people have been lending out those discontinued holiday items throughout the history of RuneScape, so we're going to permit it again.

Alright, so apparently I've made a mistake.

Before I posted that I had a quick check of the forums to see any official posts about it, couldn't find any.

If you could find exactly where they stated which items it would affect, it would help.

That does change my view about the subject quite a bit.

Jagex do seem to have covered the majority of the items that you might want to lend to a friend.

Personally now I'll be anticipating the update and getting ready to try out a nice Godsword.

I highly doubt that this will effect prices at all. I remember reading somewhere that the items would only be able to be lend to another person for the session, meaning the period where both users are logged in. This means it wont be practical for most things and will mostly just be a novelty for people to show off.

The downside of that update will probably be that people will seek rich friends, and if you're rich many people will want to be friend with you just because of that. (well even now it's that way, but it will even get worse after this update)

Let's just hope that Jagex bug tests the crap out of this. Some of the stuff that gets by them, this could turn into a nightmare.

Finally, someone actually putting more thought into it.

I cant help but to think that the first few days thousands of people will find some way to keep the items they were lended via a bug or glitch.

I'm having bad bad memories of the Fally Massacre #-o

if you die you keep it over anything you may have

Once again this could be used to create high level bounty situations in BH. Someone enters with a PartyHat giving them the highest bounty possiable, and have absolutely no fear of losing their party hat.

This raised a thought, if you lend a Christmas cracker to someone (stupid I know) what if someone cracks it?

Reading what Clbyt said made me realize something. Jagex never had any intentions of having the rares be where they are. They are virtually priceless, and with this lending items update maybe they'll fall to where they should be. People will realise that they're not worth the money as they're just a lend away and they wont be bought anymore.

But then again, they are rares, and will probably retain a certain high level of value as the demand for the items far exceeds the minimum supply.

I don't think that the item lending will affect the economy much. Perhaps the prices on a few rares changes, but that's all. I don't really care much about this since I won't go around lending things of my friends when this update comes, but I'm sure of that quite a few persons will.

Add me if you so wish: SwreeTak

i think godswords and rares will fall a bit.

but i think if you lend something, you need to be close to the guy you lend it from.

Just as a note, I'm almost positive, that Jagex wouldnt allow you to take other peoples items into BH, BH is the measure of YOUR OWN skill, not what rich friends you have to stack your equipment.

Reverents can be a pain, but you can run away from them. Just curious, do they still have teleblocking ability?

Fear the church, the reverents have 85 magic!!!!

I'm not too sure if this is going to be such a good thing...I can already see people trying to bum my dragon armor already...

I also can't quite put my finger on it, but I really do pray that this gets released sometime late in the year. Bug testing must be thorough, thank you very much.

...Alright, the Elf City update lured me back to RS over a year ago.

I was actually thinking.. and lending will be funny as hell:

Player gets lent an armadyl godsword. decided to gwd or something with it. The lend time is up in the middle of the boss fight. Weaponless with the boss at 50 or so HP left? Priceless.

the trick is to balance all of these methods to get 99 and either play real life or train another skill while farming.

I would what will happen when the 'borrower' decides to take an item in the The Abyss or Bounter Hunter, and dies with a skull. Auto-item protect anyone?

Or maybe the item you borrowed just goes back to its owner.

Quit. PM me if you play The Conduit to exchange friend codes.

My guess is you won't be able to take the item there.

They're still working on the abyss aspect, but chances are you'll just keep the item.

Jagex has stated you can't lend anything that is "degradable, untradable, or can break." I guess the X-Mas cracker fits in that category.

I am for item lending I think that it will allow many of us to treat our friends who we trust close to the way that we were able to before december by allowing them to use our items to train. The way that it will be set up with the lend only lasting until a log out it will basically mimic the whole test drive a car thing that exints irl. With more people able to see for themselves what say a godsword is like and with them not going to be able to use it whenever they fight it will have to stimulate the economy. \'

i think it'll be interesting to test out my friends Gs's ;)

Am I the only one that can see some bug being overlooked by Jagex, and the ability for someone to keep the item being a very easy issue to happen?

Or maybe Jagex has fixed their ways.

EDIT: I see Trixstar and I both are on the same page. Hah, Good Ol' Times man.
