June 29, 200818 yr I have read the article... I have to say I'm stunned that they're going to relegate themselves to being dropped in the pit of the "Monopoly Monsters" (You know... Sony, Microsoft, Nintendo, Electronic Arts, Midway, and the like...) that love to eat browser-based games alive. It is almost like they're asking to die. Especially seeing as, even though they're basically the top of their niche, they're going up against seasoned supergiants. :( On the side: BTW, can anyone tell me what happened that E3 temporarily ended up in Santa Monica for 1 year? :? ~Mr. Devnull and normally with a cool mind.(Warning: This user can be VERY confusing to some people... And talks in 3rd person for the timebeing due to how insane they are... Sometimes even to themself.)
June 30, 200818 yr US, June 24, 2008 - Jagex has confirmed with IGN that the long-awaited (and talked about) RuneScape III will debut at E3 under a new name, RuneScape High Detail. Few details are known at this time, other than the fact that it will have a completely new look and has been in the works for a very, very long time. It's not Runescape 3 :wall: yes we are all saying that but we dont know if jagex said that it was when they were talking to IGN or if that is just somthing that IGN put in there.
June 30, 200818 yr Well, this could be a great thing for Jagex or a bad one. Great because if the graphics are a success, it will bring more people's atention towards the game and therefore, more members. But, it might (note i said MIGHT) be bad because it will draw more attention to noobs (yeah i went there :P ) and making it harder to play for us "original" players. Overall, i think it'll work out. E3 is a big event and most people will be paying attention to Nintendo, Sony and Microsolf so it won't effest it that much :)
June 30, 200818 yr i don't think its a good idea, people will literally laugh at runescape, they'll put aside the fact that it has the best development team for an mmorpg out there, and that it's web based. :/ good luck to jagex Staking: 4+ mil Current Status: Training defense
June 30, 200818 yr As for the release date, I just don't care. I just want it to happen, and I will be drooling until then. I think the general consensus so far is that when these new graphics are introduced to the public, people won't be impressed; I think that's a definite possibility, however I feel that most the E3-ers will be able to grasp the idea that it's a Java Browser-based game, and there level of expectation should change. However it's entirely possible that people will just be making direct comparisons (as in, not accounting for the technological inferiority) between the games, and will not be impressed. The introduction of Jagex to E3 I think is a wonderful look into the future, as it really shows that Jagex is putting a serious effort into improving this game, receiving feedback, and ultimately adding new features to Runescape. Needless to say, I'm excited. Click here. If you go there good things will transpire.
June 30, 200818 yr Habbo Hotel isn't even on the mmogchart list, and since Habbo Hotel has more active players then RuneScape it's second. erm... when the heck did Habbo start being an MMO?? There are no MMO elements to it other than a couple of minigames but even then its basically a regular casual game with a 3D interface. Its way more a social networking site (like a 3d facebook) or a virtual world (like Second Life but without the furries) so why should they be included in an MMO list? Not saying that they aren't big (cause they so very obviously are) but they are not an MMO and bringing them into a talk about MMOs is like saying 'well your Rugby team may be the 2nd biggest but my Football team is way bigger' Any Massive Multi-Player Online Game is an MMO, which both Habbo and Second Life are. Lordofrah1 is right. [-- DYNAMIC SIGNATURES FOR RUNESCAPE 3 & OLDSCHOOL 2007 RUNESCAPE --]
June 30, 200818 yr Anyone ever thought Jagex meant "MechScape" for E3, they did say we would get RS2.5 before anyone else, and early July. E3 is in the 2nd half of July definitely not "early". Or maybe they will be revealing "RS3" to them for 2011 or something, who knows? [-- DYNAMIC SIGNATURES FOR RUNESCAPE 3 & OLDSCHOOL 2007 RUNESCAPE --]
June 30, 200818 yr Seriously, if they are going to bring the Graphics out July 14th or later, my trust to Jagex suffers a huge crash. That definetly IS NOT early July... Master of Attack ~ August 29th, 2010Proud to have served the awesome Tip.It Crew <3
June 30, 200818 yr This sounds like a good idea from Jagex's side I think. More people will get to know about the game, and that will most probably make more people join it too. And all of those won't be noobs :). But I really hope that the graphics becomes released before the 14:th of july in the game. I want that graphics update real bad now! Please, let it come soon  Add me if you so wish: SwreeTak
June 30, 200818 yr Are they actually debuting the graphics, or something else? I mean it says Runescape 3, but this is still Rs2 with the graphics. Doomy edit: I like sheep
June 30, 200818 yr Are they actually debuting the graphics, or something else? I mean it says Runescape 3, but this is still Rs2 with the graphics. I really wish anyone knew... but only Jagex really knows. However, it IS very much possible that Jagex may release a totally new engine level soon, seeing as they could be reaching another point where it would have to be upgraded to handle both their needs and the needs of the players in-game. Of course, if they do that, I hope they will expand the chat buffer. Having only the last 100 chat lines is literally not enough for me. I personally need at least a 250-line to 500-line chat buffer... And the more, the better. :ugeek: ~Mr. D. V. Once when you are born and once when you look death in the face. Do not fear Death. Death is always at our side. When we show fear, it jumps at us faster than light. But, if we do not show fear, it casts its eye upon us gently and then guides us into infinity...
June 30, 200818 yr I hope that it comes out the first week, the anticipation inside me is about to blow! Although if it don't come out till near the end then so be it. We will find out tomorrow any way. New logo looks pretty good IMO lookie at sig. Thanks Gradeskip93 for my awesome sig!
June 30, 200818 yr People don't care it is java based, they'll judge it next to WoW, guild wars, and about anything else that people play. So I wouldn't be surprised if it got a bad review. The real important thing is the people that already play IMO. But attracting new customers and keeping the old ones is how a company works. True gamers can appreciate how advanced the graphics are for a Java based game. If the game weren't Java based, I garantee you that the graphics would own any other game out there. Jagex has the ability to make killer graphics, but the Java factor limits it, yet still, they are amazing enough to come out with an update such as this that make java graphics more advanced than we have ever seen them before. Anyone who bashes RS for it's graphics doesn't even know that the hell they are talking about, and quite frankly, just make themselves look like uneducated morons. |2,300+ Total|138 Combat|12 Lvl 99 Skills|99 Slayer|
June 30, 200818 yr It is a business opportunity. Since it is closed to the general public, the few actual programmers and those with a high level of knowledge will be able to appreciate the level of detail in such advanced java levels. However, the gameplay has much to be improved in comparison to other MMORPGS. What Jagex really needs is more integration of something like WASD to really diversify the game itself. Meh, I'm just throwing random opinion into this discussion, but I think the high accessibility of RuneScape and the low price point really sell it already. Attracting in a few gamers from E3 never hurts. Are they actually debuting the graphics, or something else? I mean it says Runescape 3, but this is still Rs2 with the graphics. I really wish anyone knew... but only Jagex really knows. However, it IS very much possible that Jagex may release a totally new engine level soon, seeing as they could be reaching another point where it would have to be upgraded to handle both their needs and the needs of the players in-game. I personally need at least a 250-line to 500-line chat buffer... And the more, the better. :ugeek: ~Mr. D. V. Devnull I like this point. The graphics itself could be leading into a whole new era of RuneScape. However, this will still be Rs2-based. At E3, however, we could see a deeper look into the far future for Jagex. With the heavy hitters such as WoW, Guild Wars, FFXI, ect. RuneScape has definitely gotta step it up to compete at E3. A hefty chat buffer would be nice, too ^_^.
June 30, 200818 yr i just realized mabe thay are going to release it like 4-5 days before e3 so all the lagg from downloading new graphics will be gone for all the new rsers to try it out Doing random stuff on runescape. June 30, 200818 yr Indeed. I always thought E3 was only console stuff? Nah, they have some PC games and stuff... however, i would never have expected something like runescape since its run in an internet browser... :o
