"I want a girlfriend/boyfriend", and other such relationship advice

Featured Replies

I got hit on by a girl at a party and I'm afraid she might keep going. I'm not at ALL interested, so I'm considering telling her I already have a girlfriend if she asks, and getting another girl to pose as such. Any suggestions/objections?

To be honest, I wouldn't say that's the best thing to do, but that's what I would do. Two girls like me that I really don't have interest in, but I'm just kind of downplaying the situation, hoping they lose interest.

There's this girl that I've been friends with for years now, and lately we've been together more and more. The other night at a school football game she was kind of getting hands-on with me and flirting a bit (at least that's what it came off as.) At one time she commented "you're so cute" while laughing. I wouldn't go as far as saying I like her right now (she has a boyfriend, who happens to hate me), but if given the opportunity to go out with her I probably would. When we were in like second grade she used to like me. Don't need any advice there really, just wanted to let stuff out.

Now there's this other girl. People from our school went to a corn maze Saturday night, and I saw her there (hadn't known about her previously, though. Heh.). She was really cute. At one point walking through the corn maze she locked arms with me. She did that with another guy too, but yeah. The first thing she said to me that night was that I had cool eyes. Problems are 1) I don't know if she's single or not, 2) I don't think I've ever even seen her at school before, 3) there's a possibility she's a grade higher than I am. I don't know how girls feel about dating younger guys in highschool. So that's that. Hmmmmmmmmm

  • Okay so I'm pretty confident at least 2 of you remember me and maybe .5 of you remember how my last post went. To recap, I went on the first date of my life and then a second one that went poorly.   T

Well, always find out whether the other team is currently batting, as you'll look like a darn fool getting ready in the batters box when you ought to be in the outfield catching flies.

If you've never met the pitcher before, you won't know when a curveball is coming your way.

Aim high, just not too high. A pop fly is an automatic out.

And I promise I'll stop with the baseball analogies now. But in my defense, I never even brought the bases up. Baseball= awesome for relationship anaolgies in all forms.

The only difference between Hitler and the man next door who comes home and beats his kids every day is circumstance. The intent is the same-- to harm others.

I told her there was a secret method to doing it - and there is - but my once nimble and agile fingers were unable to perform because I was under the influence.

I would laugh, not hate. I'm a male. :(

Got your junk caught in your fly again?

I don't remember him very well, but I think we got along pretty well. I'm just not liking the vibe of the guy who came back.

Yeah, no kidding. He seems a bit... pretentious/condescending, if that's the vibe you're getting.

WTF. I'm not sure whether to cry or to burst out laughing insanely at the irony of a TIF'er accusing someone of pretention.

Okay, you guys have officially lost me with the sports metaphors. Golden tip: don't do this around girls.

Says the guy who always sounds like someone pissed in his cornflakes every day of the week... RPG you can always reach me through private PM and if you ever have a message or question for ginger I can pass it on as we're still in touch.

The only people who tell you that you can't do something are those who have already given up on their own dreams so feel the need to discourage yours.

Goddess! Another person I sorely miss around these parts. You guys are making it very hard for me to keep the stiff upper lip thing going. Hope you (and your son!) are doing well!

I don't see the irony. Mebe I'm slow.

Apparently Goddess thinks he hasn't changed in a bad way, so I guess that initial pretentious sounding comment was a blip. Or maybe he's just on a high horse and makes up for it by being helpful. I dunno, I don't remember the guy.

Oh for the love of god *facepalm*. Yes, people do keep using it wrong. I did not. If you want to read up on the device of irony, I'd like to direct you to wikipedia or some similar encyclopedia. It comes in many forms and the one you're referring to is situational. It can also be verbal or dramatical. Irony thrives on a disparity and friction between two things. Like you said "something not expected to happen happening"; but just as much things unsaid but (unconsciously) said for example.

So.

From the years I've spent here, I dare to say that a lot of OT'ers are slightly condescending and arrogant. This is not necessarily an insult, I tend to be that too. I love Rebdragon, I do, but he can be a sarcastic and arrogant [wagon]. Actually, it sometimes seems to be the standard mode of communication on TIF to be a bit harsh. So one OT'er calling another arrogant when in fact he is being arrogant himself, without being aware of this hypocrisy and actually 'blaming' the other for what is in fact a shared arrogance, that IS ironical.

Doesn't change the fact as to who I am. And nice generalization there, I'd daresay it applies outside of OT in the General Runescape section of the forums. And I'll add onto the Irony defintion. Irony has some sort of relationship to a situation, whereas a coincidence does not, because I've seen people confuse the two enough.

That sounds eerily simliar to how I met my girlfriend, who I then ended up dating for two years. I didn't knwo she existed, but then she was heavy on the flirting, and two days later we were dating. And i don't think girls care if the guys they date are younger. It depends on the girl, that's not a trait you can reallly generalize. I know a sophmore(highschool) that's dating a girl thats a freshman in college. It's not a common thing, but it can happen.

To be honest I lost myself a little bit with that one, as well. But I enjoyed it, so thats all that matters, right?

Oh, and its amazing how a single post hijacked this thread so effectively. Especially since the hijacker was not aware of how much the plane would fly off course. (Especially especially since it was an unintentional hijacking.)

Its like blasphemy here in Australia (From what I've seen anyway). If a guy is younger the first response is "He's too immature". Yeah, and like that 24year old over there stripping in the corner and grabbing random girls as a bet isn't.

So what exactly is wrong?

There's no such thing as regret. A regret means you are unhappy with the person you are now,

and if you're unhappy with the person you are, you change yourself. That

regret will no longer be a regret, because it will help to form the new,

better you. So really, a regret isn't a regret.

It's experience.

Y'know, a lot of girls are like jobs.

Let's say that a woman has a close male friend. This means that he is probably interested in her, which is why he hangs around so much. She sees him strictly as a friend. This always starts out with, you're a great guy, but I don't like you in that way. This is roughly the equivalent for the guy of going to a job interview and the company saying, You have a great resume, you have all the qualifications we are looking for, but we're not going to hire you. We will, however, use your resume as the basis for comparison for all other applicants. But, we're going to hire somebody who is far less qualified and is probably an alcoholic. And if he doesn't work out, we'll hire somebody else, but still not you. In fact, we will never hire you. But we will call you from time to time to complain about the person that we hired. Funny thing is how goddamned true it is.

I was going to eat hot dogs for dinner tonight. I think I will settle for cereal.

The taboo on older woman - younger man is fading though, isn't it? I've dated younger guys, but in general, I'd say I do prefer elder guys. They tend to be a bit wiser and more experienced. But it really depends on the person, maturity isn't all about age. What I don't like much about elder guys than me at my current age, though, is that they're often starting to make plans towards marriage and settling, and they're quick to start putting pressure in that direction.

Double post.

Y'know, a lot of girls are like jobs.

An interesting analogy... I'm guessing it comes from experience? Been placed firmly into the "friends" basket?

Heres the deal: If you want to meet more women, you have to go to the places where they go.

If you like athletic women, go to the gym or spendtime at the coffee shop or juice bar next to a gym.

If you like spiritual women, take yoga or meditation classes.

If you like large women, hang out at Weight Watchers.

-David DeAngelo on meeting women, Double Your Dating 2nd edtition.

Being barely 15, I can't really go to bars or clubs, so do you guys have any suggestions when it comes to where you can meet girls? I'm really annoyed at the lack of interesting girls at my school.
