Either we evolve to the point where we are no longer human, or we destroy ourselves one way or another. (Nuclear war, extremely aggravated global warming, the nanotech Frankenstein's Monster, et cetera). Of course, we might not go extinct for a very long time, and then through some other mechanism. Yeah, the odds are astronomical, but if the human race is going to end, that'd be an interesting way to go. Personally I think that we are coming up to our deciding time as a species. We have weapons that can destroy the world and people that are willing to do it. I think if we make it a few million years we should be fine, if we ever become a Type III civilisation then we should be okay, even with the expansion of the universe because with such technology we will probably be able to distort space-time or whatever, I don't know lulz.
