Randox
Today I finally got around to installing a virtual machine program on my computer, and its been one long frustrating process. I'm using the program Windows gave me, because its free and I couldn't find anything better anyway (starting to think I should have tried harder though). What I actually wanted was a program that would go, hey, this computer has an operating system. Lets duplicate it, and run it with write permissions only to a partitioned sector of the hard drive that could be wiped by the host computer as needed. What I got was hey, lets build a program that emulates a specific hardware set, and doesn't come with an OS at all! So I tried installing my OS (windows 7) on it, but my computer being a 64bit machine uses a 64 bit OS, and the virtual program is emulating a 32 bit processor for reasons I am sure are fascinating (wouldn't it be easier to just use the hardware of the host?). So it running Ubuntu instead, because if I can't have the OS I want, I might as well go with one I can't pronounce. The icing on the cake is that I had it check the hardware, and it doesn't have the foggiest idea what graphics card its using (and refuses to go above 800x600 resolution as a result). And what processor is it using? An AMD Phenom II X6 1065T. Which is my [bleep]ing 64 bit processor that the lunatic program wouldn't let me install 64 bit OS's on! However, the machine, once I get some anti virus on it, should manage to fufil its function beutifully. The whole purpose of having a virtual machine is that I will be able to send it to dodgy websites and have it examine dodgy files for me, and if it gets infected, then I can simply replace its hard drive with a backup. I guess it was too much to hope for, but I wanted it to have a discreet internet conection. Instead, it does show up to the rest of the world as its host. TTanT
Jeez guys, it isn't dead.I'm not an expert on arthropods, but....Not eating for 5 weekss? Not moving for 5 days? I'm pretty sure that sentence is an anagram for "DEAD. DEAD. NOT LIVING. IT IS GONE INTO THE AFTERLIFE." Well, give and take a few consonants and vowels. It's opensource, so it doesn't cost anything and works a hell of a lot better than Microsoft Virtual PC (the one included with Xp Mode which is included in Windows 7). Also it would seem that this processor does support virtualization, so you might need to activate it in the BIOS of your host computer in order to be able to use a 64bit OS in the virtual machine. Randox
Yes it does. I had it checked to make sure it wasn't going to shit a brick the second it fired up. I might just go for virtual box tomorrow, because Ubuntu is driving me insane. Yes, having a linux system is theoretically ideal for what I want to use this for, being apparently resistant to viruses to the point people don't bother putting scanners on it, but that doesn't do me any good if I can't actually use it. I really would like to have windows anyway because I know its going to be able to run everything I want it to. I did forget about going into BIOS to activate that feature though. Would explain why Ubuntu is running slowly.

Distracted
The last couple of days were pretty great. Monday I had my last exam before the holidays. Then we (my friends and I) spent all day high. Tuesday we went to Ghent (where I'll be going to college in a year and a half) and had a great evening with the older brother of one of my best friends. Wednesday evening we went and saw Project X. All in all, a great first half of the week, but I sure am happy to be able to rest a bit for the second half of the week. I've also started getting proper driving lessons (on the road), which is something I've been looking forward to since I was like 10 years old, so that's great too. And, on a different note, I'm pretty certain a girl I know is into me. And by pretty certain, I basically mean 99%. And I doubt I'm overanalyzing anything, for reasons I don't really think are appropriate to mention here  . Anyway, we'll see how that turns out. Also, because I'm feeling immature:Back from vacation! Feeling nice and refreshed! Probay because I got a free massage and then came:twss:

Would explain why Ubuntu is running slowly. I downloaded and installed virtual box today and it's working great for me so far. Everything seems to be working at a normal speed despite me having to divide my RAM up. I'm going to un-dual boot my current setup and just run windows with a Ubuntu virtual box from now on. So much more convenient. So I like the part where windows Vista and 7 aren't options. I'm not sure if I should try to install my OS anyway using its backup disks, or if I should use the copy of Windows XP 64 that I just happen to have available. Randox
My backup disks should be able to install it from scratch, but it wasn't an option (or maybe that's just a label). I also suspect that there would be a shit storm if I installed that version of 7 twice, because it would look exactly like piracy. I think I'll install the 64 bit xp tomorrow and see if its stable. It's also smaller, so if I ever need to go through this again, it will be that much faster to remake the drive. The real problem will be compatibility. While it should handle web browsing fine, there is a particular program I am anxious to try. I suspect xp will be able to run it though.
iNeppg
Today I'm heading to celebrate my mom's birthday. Some good food and cake of course! Then warm the sauna afterwards in the evening and maybe see my GF later on. God I love weekends.
Randox
Had a Lucid dream last night. Before that, last night I went to see Lady Windermere's Fan (play by Oscar Wilde), and I quite enjoyed that. Today I get to relax.
Kalphite
Well, payed my enrollment deposit today and am now officially going to University of Michigan Ann Arbor next year. Sorta bummed I didn't get in anywhere else, but it's still an awesome school at least. I haven't realized until now how out of shape my drumming has gotten, so I'm going to start stepping up my game a lot so that I have a shot of making the drumline next year. So today I'm practicing that for a while, then going to see some friends' robotics competition before eventually going to another friend's movie night. Should be a fun day.
