It helps, but you don't need it. I've always done fine in my 2WD truck with some sand bags in the back when conditions required it.

How do the sandbags help?  If all the power is to the front wheels and they can't grip the road, aren't you kind of SOL?

Isn't 2WD generally in the rear wheels?

Unless it would be something like a really small Mazda all trucks should be rear wheel drive when 2WD. Therefore the sandbangs add weight on the driving wheels providing traction.

That being said most newer 2WD cars, including the new ford police cars, are front wheel drive for whatever difference it makes while most older cars were rear wheel drive.

Few sedans/sports cars have rear wheel drive. Theres more handling in front wheel.

It's a Silverado, and yeah, the bags are for traction. If I don't add weight, I basically drift around every corner, or have no control in iced parking lots like at a ski resort or when I'm visiting my parents in Washington. The reason I don't drive a Truck with 4WD is because I've pretty much lived in the Southwest for the past 6 years and there is simply no reason for me to have it down here.

Both the cars I had, had the power in the front wheels. That said I have never owned a 4WD car and never had any trouble driving in the long Canadian winters. Especially with the fact that NB is so broke that last winter they didn't clear the ice on roads unless there was freezing rain coming down, which means a good layer of snow/ice on most streets and highways for weeks before it melted under the sun. Yes they cleared snow but only after storms and only passed once on roads and streets leaving a layer of snow still on the road behind them.

You know how in media with lots of characters you'll have groups of characters that interact normally, but sometimes the writers will try and combine people from different groups for an episode, or maybe bring people together without their mutual connection, or whatever else, in order to create a different, potentially more interesting dynamic? That's been happening in my real life, where I'm the mutual connection, and it's really surreal. Not in a bad way, just in a weird way.

I have found out that despite having no dogs allowed in our building (and I am not a fan of them), someone has one as a service animal.  Ugh.  I'm not sure what handicap they have or claim to have, but I think it's a couple...do they really need said animal?

It's not even an issue of how much snow, really.  One inch of unplowed snow/ice when the city is incapable of plowing it can paralyze the whole system.  It's like, come on guys, it's winter - guess what, it's going to snow!

You mean they don't close all the public schools, for example?  Maybe they do a better job in Canada than in our country.

Need a good snowstorm or promise of 10+ cm to close schools here.

My right hand will be in a soft cast for another 2 weeks, then a hard cast for 3-4 more. It could be worse I guess

What happened?  :o

The only thing that ever got my school closed was 0 visibility. They even had us go with 6 inches of snow on the road. Some of the bus drivers actually refused to drive and they wouldn't cancel the others.

Maybe it depends on where you are. My Firebird did fine last Winter, but I know Michigan doesn't have the worst snow. The Aveo5 I was driving before that has never had an issue either.

Ha. What part of Michigan? I can vouch that you'd never get through a winter in the UP with a RWD or even some 2WD unless they're tiny and you can just dig them out/pick them up. There's a reason every other car up here is a Subaru.

Oh also - listening to Wings/Bruins game, pretty good, looking forward to the rest of the season.

Trying to edit an STL file with four different programs and I have achieved nothing. Partially because I don't know Inventor. (NX doesn't open STLs, OpenSCAD renders it wrong, and MeshLab crashes... Blender makes it annoying triangles as per usual.)

Here it takes 30+ cm of snow to close schools, and in New Brunswick it's 35+ cm and they don't even close college and universities at those snowfalls.

Thinking about it, I should probably get my winter tires put on before the rush which usually start at the end of October, but I'm expecting it to be sooner this year seeing as we had some rain/snow mix today although mostly rain.

In Canada they don't do much of a better job, people actually know how to drive in winter conditions and that makes all the difference, although the first snows there are always quite a lot of accidents.

It snowed a foot (~31cm) overnight last winter for me in here (Minnesota) and they didn't cancel college classes.

I saw a grown man piss himself last night...

We were at a beach party. Looooooooooot of drunk people. Guy to girl ratio was about 5:1. But that's how most "event" are here anyway. But yeah... we were sitting at our table having a good time. We hear some commotion behind us. We turn around only to see a girl knee a guy right in the money. He dropped to his knees. Then we realised his jeans started turning a darker shade of blue. It was absolutely hilarious.

Apparently he was drunk, walked up to some random girl and tried to grab her ass. Was quite entertaining.
