I know Naruto catches a lot of flack sometimes but I remember watching the original stuff (now known as part 1) and I agree that was awful.

 

But, I'v been watching the Shippuden and honestly I'm impressed. I dunno though I feel that I can watch it because I can relate to Naruto so easily where we both have goals that seem impossible yet we still aim for them.

 

Kinda that "nothing to lose everything to gain" attitude.

Watch. Gurren. Lagann.

I've finally gotten into watching Full Metal Alchemist Brotherhood. I saw the original anime, and due to that I was sceptical about whether or not this series would be any good.. It is. 38 episodes in. I have full-time uni and I work quite a lot as well, but I don't think it will be too long before I finish this series. :)

Gurren Lagann is the shonen (shounen?) anime concept taken to ridiculous, incredibly awesome extremes. Also the Ganmen are cool.

OH and another thing while I'm on a roll, Higurashi Kira's first episode was completely disgusting. I knew from the trailer that it was going to be bad but the whole thing turns out just to be an extended eroge sequence involving each of the main girls in turn. I get that Higurashi has a lot of 'fun' sequences but this first ep is entirely dedicated to Keiichi's sexual fantasises. I have a high tolerance for fanservice but I had to say Rika's rubbing of her bum on a window making ecchi noises really got to me, she's what - nine years old? It's god awful so far <_<

I have a very low fanservice tolerance. Hence one of the reasons I'm enjoying Full Metal Alchemist so much. :thumbup:

 

But... That was a horror show, yeah? Like, straight gore and grossout. With a tiny bit of cuteness and meme-material. At least, that's what I understand from TvTropes. So why in hell has it made that sort of transition.

Higurashi is a horror mystery type show, there are cutey parts in the series so that you do get a feel for the characters and that's what makes the horror horrific, but since the horror has been solved for some stupid reason DEEN decided what we needed wasn't the fun of the last OVA Rei, but FANSERVICE EVERYWHERE. I'm just very disappointed, but I can't say I was expecting much from it. Higurashi has unfortunately been reduced to a cash cow :(

 

Higurashi went straight downhill after Season 1 =/

 

As for currently watching, I just picked up Ano Hana (あの日見た花の名前を僕達はまだ知らない) and so far I'm enjoying it. It falls under the tragedy genre, which I don't usually watch. However, the story seems very well written with the potential for solid character development. Can't wait to finish watching the whole thing!

The September 1 issue of Bungeishunju's Weekly Bunshun magazine reported on Thursday that Hirohiko Araki's JoJo's Bizarre Adventure manga has live-action and anime film adaptations in the works by separate film companies. According to the magazine, a "super-popular idol" is being cast for the live-action version. The magazine added that the release dates for both projects will be next summer or later.

Finished Chrono Crusade. It was OK at best, but the ending yanked on my heart strings so hard it almost made me shed a tear. Almost. Actually I was kind of saying to myself at that point, "Really? Another downer ending? [bleep]'s sake"

 

Are there any animes that actually have a happy, non-bittersweet ending?

I recently tried watching the original series. So incredibly boring, Shinji is a terrible protagonist.

 

Literally the most interesting character was the giant mech.

 

In other news, I'm somewhere in the Infinite Eight Arc of The Melancholy of Haruhi Suzumiya. You don't know how much I'm wishing for Kamina to just pop out of nowhere and give Kyon his 'So you lost your drill?' speech.

I'm not really big into anime, but over the summer, out of lack of boredom I watched a few, and I find myself quasi-hooked. Watched FMA, FMA:Brotherhood, Death Note, and just finished Code Geass 10 mins ago. My favourites out of the lot are FMA:Brotherhood and Code Geass, and I find myself in a sad point of 'what do I watch now' when I finished both (I actually have a next series lined up though). So uh, hi folks. Just felt like posting I guess.

Probably not really. Cast is all female and it gets really creepy/disturbing/frightening/depressing after episode three or so. Who knew a show whose protagonists are 5 girls with colorful hair could so resemble an H.P. Lovecraft work.

 

You might like Tengen Toppa Gurren Lagann, though it's a bit ridiculous. Incredibly, unbelievably cool, but a bit ridiculous. Gundam 00 is also a passably good show, and Soul Eater might be within your taste.

I forgot about that, I watched soul Eater too this summer, and enjoyed it a lot. My options are limited by the fact I don't enjoy watching subtitles, so I only watch dubbed anime (I know this is tantamount to sacrilege, but meh)

Oh no, I entirely agree, I generally dislike subtitles unless the English voice actors really REALLY suck. TTGL is dubbed quite well, Gundam 00 is fully dubbed too.

Heh, when I first watched anime I would have to pause an episode every so often while I got used to reading the subs. You get used to it after a bit but it still feels awkward (possibly due to the annoying styling that a lot of groups use).

I was about to suggest Hunter X Hunter, but I remembered it's getting re-done in the fall season, so maybe you ahould watch it then.

 

@Ruerin: Once you learn to multi task it gets better. It was annoying for me at first because I would end up only reading and missing a lot of what was going on, but now I can do both pretty well.

Re watched Death Note in English. It was a lot better. I can't believe how many of L's famous quips I missed passively watching the Jap version while playing Minecraft. Also I realized why I hate Near. Precisely because he has no funny moments, at all. Not even morbid humor. Near has no soul.

 

Also I must confess that I just dropped $15 on Misa's notebook (my friend has Light's, seemed fitting). :geek: Tempted to get the State Alchemist's watch, not because I'm a huge fan of FMA or anything, but because it's all kinds of badass.

Well subs are a bit redundant for me now I've enough of a grasp on Japanese to watch most anime (though they're still helpful). What's annoying is mistranslations though, makes my brain ache.

Just finished watching Gurenn Lagann. Several counts of "HOLY MOTHER [bleep]".

 

The premise is beyond the absurd, yet it still managed to be enjoyable rather than excruciating like, say, DBZ, because it's only 27 episodes instead of 275 (30 of which are the frieza fight alone).
